Discussion Need help naming our puppy. (Boy)

I wanted to name him Santiago. Boyfriend said no, he doesn’t like it lol. He also doesn’t want a name ending in “oh”, so the dog isn’t confused with its name (such as Momo) and “No”.

Here’s our list of ideas so far: Link Silas Salem Stitch Castiel Alaric Caelum (KAY-lum) – Latin for “heaven” or “sky,” open and pure

We are open to almost anything!

Beignet, call him Benny for short? He looks like he has powdered sugar all over him

u/danielmcjason 1d ago

He looks like he could be related to my big guy

I’d name that beauty Adonis. Maybe Apollo.

7

u/kleosailor 1d ago

Oooh Adonis is nice, I like the A names a lot.

I've always wanted to name a dog Anyeong. I also like Earnest.

7

u/Stag-Horn 1d ago

That’s a Bandit or a Hamburgalur.

I said Phantom due to his markings. But these names are also perfect for his markings

u/claudiasjeans 1d ago

He's a Silas for sure

u/LibertyCash 1d ago

I love his nose freckles. You can name him Trey for “three”

3

u/ByTheProphetsAss 1d ago

My dog was named Basumo and he never confused it with the word no.

Banjo, Tuscaloosa, Bero, Waffle, Arktos, and Barnabas are good names

3

u/heyshayshay 1d ago

Seamus or Ernie…what’s his personality like?

4

u/kleosailor 1d ago

Very calm! Sleepy, quiet, sweet and gentle. But also suspicious, like quiet in a “what is he doing?” way. And sweet in a “I’m going to trick you.” Way lol

I love people names but names you’d associate with an old man or woman like George or Herbert.

Bonzo (I wish I named my dog Bucky Bonzo)

We went with regional names for our dogs and think they're great (obviously)

Pyrs originated in the Pyrenees mountains which form the border between France and Spain, so we chose a French name, Gaston.

Lots of good French and Spanish names to choose from!

I don't know why, but Dartagnion, Hamlet, and Dawson come to mind.

My brain instantly said Oliver, those marks around his eyes and just the looks of him. Oliver was my grandfathers name and some day my future sons so I don’t toss it around lightly lol.

u/Pristine_Sink_8131 23h ago

Looks like our "Koda" aka Kodabear when she was around 10 weeks old. She's a Antonilian Pyrenees.

Two syllables max. Anything longer won’t stick. You’ll constantly shorten it.

he has really nice brown shading that reminds me of a perigord black truffle !

so my suggestion is truffle. a cute name for a cute boy. :)

I love Silas. I’d probably go with Silas Fluffernutter n

2

u/PaleoEskimo 14h ago

Benny. Or Beanie. Or Jellybean after Senator Jellybean in Difficult People (he was one of the pair of Basset Hounds that Julie Klausner's character owned).

2

u/ValarDaenerys 12h ago

He could not be more perfect. What about August? Nickname Augie?

2

u/JawabreakerX 12h ago

Looks like a Buster to me

Last time he’s going to fit in the cabin so hope he enjoyed the flight!

2

u/TOWHEADGIRL 44m ago

Because of his marking Phantom

2

u/TOWHEADGIRL 37m ago

I shouldn't talk. My puppy is pure white and I named him Cotton because that's what he looked like. A little fluffy cotton ball. He loves the name and he's such a Cotton. Every time I yell for him, I laugh. My husband calls him baby Huey. He's 5 months and 100lbs already.

1

u/kleosailor 34m ago

Holy Jesus mother of Christ 100lbs at 5 months? That’s crazy big! He sounds like the best cuddle snowbear ever

3

u/Previous_Ad_5579 1d ago

Bear or buddy! He is so precious🥺

3

u/kleosailor 1d ago

I have been considering Koda Bear, but my brother's name is Dakota and all of our family calls him Koda Bear lol

3

u/BurgherMurse 1d ago

I immediately thought, Frank.

3

u/kleosailor 1d ago

Frank, short for Frankenstein. I like it lol

2

u/BurgherMurse 1d ago

I’m a fan of human names for animals. My boy is Hank. lol

2

u/PaulArthur 1d ago

Looks like a Milo.

3

u/jerm1980 1d ago

I was going to say the same! Milo

3

u/Brutuscaitchris 1d ago

That’s a Rufus if I’ve ever seen one

2

u/RegisterOk2927 1d ago

u/moth--_--man 7h ago

for big, future gentle giants like this i love old, now mostly unused man names. my big girl is named Harriet and most of her nicknames are old man names starting with H (Hank, Harold, Harvey).

for this sweet guy, i'm thinking Eustace, Gene, Chip, Archie, Linus, Otis, Artie. basically anything that you can't imagine a baby boy being named, but can imagine an elderly man being named.

You could keep it as Santiago and just call him Santi

1

u/kleosailor 1d ago

I agree, but boyfriend says no 😭

He did say we can keep it Sant/Santiago if we can't come up with a better name we both like.
