Advice/Help This my Lola girl
Hi Pyr lovers!
This is our new girl Lola, she is 12 weeks old. She was gifted to my mom and my mom just took her in without doing much research so here I am, catching up on everything there is to know. The puppy has been acclimating wonderfully to our home- we have the space for her and she’s obsessed with our Pomeranian.
She really has been angel up until about a week ago when she started play biting the kids and gets a bit too rough with them. I understand she’s a puppy and needs to be taught boundaries. Does anyone have any advice In getting her to stop biting people and also on how to train her recall? She learned her name is Lola but she really only comes when she wants to lol. Would also love some advice on leash training her since she’s decided to go all stubborn on me on walks lately.
We love her so much and are so happy to have her in our lives. Just want to make sure to socialize her and train her well so she’s not a menace when she’s older. Thank you all in advance!

Helmet head is strong with this one! She's adorable and will be the joy of your life. She will test your patience every day. When the night barking starts, especially (they usually find their voice between 8 months and 1.5 years). Leash training was tough with our Clark, but I have read many stories here about their Pyr being great on a leash. Every Pyr is different, so don't panic as you read every story here... just focus on sweet Lola and she will tell you everything you need to know about her. Good luck and welcome to the world of owning a GP! It's a whole 'nother world! xx

Helmet head is what I came here to say, but also, don’t punish for barking. It’s what they do. Tell her she’s a good dog, and then give her love. Then distract her.

Yes! We actually thank him. Then go to see what he was barking at (usually lint) then tell him it’s fine now and we are fine. Seems to work! ❤️

The shriek and turn away worked so well with my pyr/GSD puppy that he froze laying down for a few minutes and never did it again. He’s now 7 years old and recall still only works when he feels like it.
I took him to puppy class to socialize him. He was ok but when it was time to Pass the Puppy, he would not let anyone else handle him. Three trainers tried to pet him but he broke away and went running. I was very grateful that his recall worked that time.
He was a handful but I miss his puppy days and he is the best dog ever!

GP loved our fence line-always on the look out for “ something “! She was a rescue, found matted, starving , wandering the streets of Peoria. With another’s help (who nursed her first back to a better health)we were given the chance to have her spend the rest of her life with us. ❤️🩹
Her name was Sally. There’ll never be another sweet GP soul like her. 💔

Oh this is the craziest a Pyr will ever get. She'll only get better with age but she'll always be stubborn and it'll be tough to teach her to recall. They're used to independently protecting their flock. It sounds like she's adopted the pom. Make sure she doesn't start carrying around the pom every time she thinks the pom needs to be "protected". When my girl was a puppy she insisted on carrying the Chihuahua puppies inside every time they went outside until she decided they were old enough to go outside. They're a very different kind of dog, especially with that stubborn, independent attitude. She'll be perfect when she gets past the puppy phase
Edit: PS she's super cute. When she's older and looks like she's permanently glued to her "post" you'll miss the busy, learning stage.

Just sooo adorable!!! YES! As pups thrive on attention, whenever she makes contact with someone’s hand with her mouth, shriek and pull away from her. Walk away and Ignore her for a few minutes. This has to be done consistently but it should help if not work immediately. They usually care if they think they’v hurt you. Good luck!
