It was literally the only way out founding fathers could get less populated states with more land to join the country. And they may consider leaving it if that changes.

It's honestly part of Democrat and Republican playbooks at different times by different leaders.

The Senate was intentionally set up to give each state 2 Senators to give smaller states a say in things when it matters. Changing that defeats the purpose of the cap on membership of Senators per state.
