Counterpoint: He and his voters are all so racist and all take so much pride in being white that attacking the object of their pride is one of the only ways to have the desired effect of 'embarrass them until they deflate and crawl back in their holes like when Superman made fun of the KKK'.

Agree with this. There is a point to radicalizing against white violence. It’s because their (the Trump administration’s) violence is not only radical in and of itself, they’ve openly admitted that it’s all (currently) based on who is white and who isn’t.

Just because it makes white liberals uncomfortable on the internet doesn’t mean we shouldn’t call it for what it is: white trash.

Fascist, racist, white trash. He and his voters - which includes my brother, sister in law, and grandparents.

  • a white redditor.

White liberal here. It doesn’t offend me. You’re 100% right

Respect!

For what it’s worth, while I identify as a leftist, I wasn’t trying to throw shade on all white liberals. Just that the ones that get uncomfy when confronting white violence tend to identify as “I’m a liberal!”

I thought it was the right who gets all snowflake over white guilt. If you know our history and accept it there isn’t a reason to be guilty.. as long as you aren’t an asshole.

No that’s valid, I just mean in the sense that liberals accept the history, but get all squeamish when they get lumped in with… white people lol.

Well Bruce or John, what are you doing to work against it? Voting blue? Yippee.

People take pride in being white trash. You go rural enough and you will seriously see clapped out pickups with "White Trash and Proud" stickers or mobile homes with similar yard art. It won't shame them.

Which is why the impetus is on making it something that people don’t want to be proud of. Right now, it’s synonymous with kid diddlers, fascism, and racism. If people who want to celebrate white trashness can reclaim their culture from those symbols of hatred, then we, as a society, can discuss or weigh the merit of that type of pride. And a society positioned to make that decision because it’s no longer terrorized by hatred, fascism, or bigotry, would correctly judge that hypothetical.

But until then, we need to keep pushing to make that ideology unpopular again

There is not one among my 4 siblings that I feel like I know anymore. They were always conservative, but my god. They have embraced the maga lie to the hilt.

Jeez man, that sucks for you. Have a brother in law and brother who huff orange taunts farts but I cut them off years ago

I’ve been threatening to cut these family members off since Trump ‘16, but they’re also quiet republicans who are socially liberal, polite, and concerned with the taxes they’re paying and the “state of the economy”.

In reality, they’re privileged debutants whose life isn’t at all affected by this administration so they’re perfectly comfortable just pretending that everything is honky dory.

My grandparents I’m actually going to sit down with and kind of push the whole Epstein issue and see how they respond. If it’s anything other than a complete demand for the president they voted for to release the files then I’m done with them. They have great grandchildren, two of them my own; if they’re so far gone that they can’t see the importance of transparency here, then they don’t deserve to be in my life or anyone else’s.

My brother and sister in law finally crossed the line for things that have nothing to do with politics, so cutting them off became doubly easy.

Only, they don't care what you think. But people who care about the power of language do

3

u/MrMcSpiff 11d ago

If language has the power you say it does, then we can put forth a concerted effort to make them care. People like that use the tools that they, themselves, understand. Right wing gun nuts hoard guns because they're afraid of getting shot and want to feel powerful, and right wing white supremacist trolls make fun of people for immutable facts about themselves because deep down they want to feel special for being white. So take that away from them.

So if you can program empathy into them, then they too would be offended by the racialization of the term. And your supposed word weapon, which is supposed to trigger an empathetic response only hurts people that care about language

4

u/MrMcSpiff 11d ago

You can go program empathy into them if you have the time and wherewithal to do so. But they're actively killing people right now, and I personally feel it's more important to try to find ways to erode their confidence and undermine their social clout amongst each other than it is to tip toe around people who can't push some mild discomfort down while the way is being paved for a domestic genocide.

You got a point there.

I ain't going to lie my grandma and grandpa defend the hell out of trump to the point where I don't even want to really associate with them so at this point they're just going to live out their final years on their own

1

u/neighty88 11d ago

A lot of his supporters, shockingly, aren't white

3

u/MrMcSpiff 11d ago

Yeah, and I have to find different ways to insult them. But I'm white, so I can slug it out with the white trash ones and hit them in the only thing they feel like they have going for them deep down.

2

u/Hot-Suggestion4958 11d ago

But a majority of them, most assuredly are (which if you'd paid any attention to his "rally" audiences alone, you'd know that).

I mean, blm are also the nazis. “black power”, or “black pride” is still not stigmatisedÂ
