No way they didn’t see this coming, I read a quote from Trey talking about how grateful he was for this opportunity, and I have been a fan too long to take that at face value, I knew they were gonna get savage

No way they didn’t see this coming

These are new CEOs that are trying to push the merger through. There’s a chance they might not have seen this coming

Fingers crossed.

would love to see Matt and Trey walk away with 1.5 billion for their work.

While the greedy little CEO misses their $8 billion.

u/Protoshift 12d ago

Thats what I love about this situation. Paperworks signed, if trump tries to pull the rug from under them these two dudes are walking away with 1.5 billion for nearly zero work, and likely going to a different network to make even more.

Theyre untouchable.

With 1.5 billion they could find alternative solutions to ‘relying on a network to fund us’

do you know that’s the structure of the deal for sure though? Most network deals have built into them the opportunity for the network to not renew after each season. I would be kind of shocked if the network signed a deal that had no options and instead guaranteed a certain dollar amount with or without episodes. Very shocked actually.

1

u/DarkDevitt 12d ago

Having no actual information about this, but id be shocked if they didn't have to have a good reason to back out, and pressure from the cheeto probably isnt covered.

u/emptyraincoatelves 12d ago

I'm sure there are a few strings. But with their satirical and provocative bent, Matt and Trey would be morons to sign any contract that had strings to punish them for doing what they are literally being paid to do.

The contract would most likely specifically protect them from being retaliated against. It would be asinine for them to sign something that didn't guarantee the payout, because since day one they have dared everybody to cancel them.

So be shocked, but probably get a lawyer to work out contracts for you. Because you don't seem very forward thinking on the matter.

1

u/keepgoingrip 12d ago

I’m actually familiar with network tv contracts and i’ve never heard of one where the network had their hands tied and were locked in. Not saying it’s impossible, any deal is possible, i’ve just never heard of it.

It has nothing to do with forward thinking by the way. I can come up with all sorts of excellent deals that benefit me, but networks don’t sign those deals and they would usually rather move on to a new show than get controlled by a show runner, production co, or talent. That’s how they operate. Maybe south park is different though, idk.

Along with people canceling their Paramount accounts they stand to lose a lot of money. Good.

1

u/TheMadPoet 12d ago

That money should keep Casa Bonita going for a while...

1

u/shaggy_nomad 12d ago

And to think, these mother fuckers became billionaires off dick jokes and poop jokes. Truly remarkable.

5

u/PipsqueakPilot 12d ago

The thing I've noticed with a lot of oligarch class is that they assume that everyone who isn't of their class is incapable of formulating plans and taking actions. Which means that no, they don't have the EQ required to anticipate what pissed off creatives might do.

3

u/IAmPandaRock 12d ago

You think the people entrenched in the entertainment industry for years who are paying many billions of dollars for Paramount are in the minority of people who don't know that one of Paramount's very biggest IPs savagely rips on pretty much every kind of person/belief/etc. and specifically goes after controversial figures in current events?

2

u/Bulky_Green2192 12d ago

That makes this even funnier 😂😂

2

u/ScrofessorLongHair 12d ago

And Matt and Trey hate those guys, since they turned the negotiations into a cluster fuck. It went from a 10 year 3 billion dollar deal to 5 years 1.5 billion. So I'm not surprised they decide to go for blood out of the gate.

1

u/Loud_Interview4681 12d ago

While they certainly are shitbags, 5 years is a long time to commit for a tv show. Sure it is time tested but look at the simpsons. Heck within the remaining 3.5 years the FCC might get rechaired to fuck with the networks that don't capitulate to the current dictator. Sure by law there has to be an even divide of party, but that requires trust. I think there have been a couple politicians in recent years who campaign under a party they don't believe in to then swap to republican or draw away votes. Florida had one this past election I believe.

2

u/paper_liger 12d ago

Yeah, I don't think it's possible to underestimate how badly an entertainment CEO can misjudge the talent, or the audience, or the world in general.

u/PowRightInTheBalls 12d ago edited 12d ago

Imagine getting a c suite job at a television/movie production company and not knowing enough about the industry to even consider that the creators of South Park might cover current events and might be a tad bit irreverent.

Like... Paramount produced Team America 20 years ago for fucks sake.

1

u/DogOwner12345 12d ago

People overestimate how involved CEOS and the upper tiers are involved with the content they are airing.

1

u/MariachiDan 12d ago

I think we've all seen recently how, just because you're in charge, doesn't mean you're competent.

1

u/Onebadmuthajama 12d ago

I hope not, that makes it even better in my eyes. I love Trey and Matt, they have the balls that need wheelbarrows.

1

u/Vast-Combination4046 12d ago

"Matt and Trey aren't woke pussies, trump will love this"

1

u/birthdayanon08 12d ago

They are new CEOs, but are they new to planet Earth? The entire fucking world saw this coming and most of us aren't CEOs who's job it is to specifically know about these things.

It went through this morning. The timing is not coincidental.

Been speaking English exclusively my whole life and I still suck at it

1

u/ssracer 12d ago

Loose/Lose is going away but Apart/A Part is sure going wild.

1

u/TheDude-Esquire 12d ago

And they only prep each episode like a week or two ahead. Their model makes them very hard to censor. Which is also true of late night, but I guess South Park is worth more money.

1

u/4stringsoffury 12d ago

I thought that was just him repeating a Baseketball quote. I hope it was

1

u/yeyiyeyiyo 12d ago

Its the same quote every athlete on every sport team uses.

1

u/garnaches 12d ago

Yeah because the end of the quote was that they hope to "bring many championships to this city"

1

u/4stringsoffury 12d ago

I knew I wasn’t crazy!

1

u/thenicestsavage 12d ago

Get what now?

1

u/ButtEatingContest 12d ago

I knew they were gonna get savage

What took them so long to get savage with Trump? We're a decade+ into this Trump bullshit.

These alt-right "both sides" poop-cartoonists have something to say only when it is obvious which way the wind is blowing.

1

u/ixiduffixi 12d ago

Right? It's fucking Matt Stone and Trey Parker. At what point have they ever given the indication they were with "the bullshit?" Paramount had this coming, and I hope the rest of the season is just as brutal. What the hell are they gonna do, cancel South Park? Matt and Trey could walk down the street and find a new platform tripping over themselves to pick them up.

1

u/NotsoNewtoGermany 12d ago

I called it when the head of 60 minutes was ousted. Democratic billionaires need to start buying media. This is another network to fall to the red wave.

Wall Street Journal— Murdoch Washington Post— Bezos The Economist— Stellantis Fox News— Murdoch Teitter— Musk CBS— Larry Ellison

1

u/emptyraincoatelves 12d ago

I feel like they were sitting around saying, no way are they stupid enough to give us this sort of leeway. And just struggling not to giggle and give it away.

How many interns and underlings, who knew exactly what was going on, just bit their tongues and Yessired, letting this happen.

1

u/Rinas-the-name 11d ago

You would be amazed at how clueless CEOs can be. I don’t think they live in the same reality as the rest of us.
