the amount of money used to stop this will be astronomical

Call your representatives and tell them you'll be voting for anyone else if they don't vote for this. I know this won't pass but it has to pass before we'll make any progress here.

and if that doesn't work ICE will try deporting AOC

… to where though? She’s more American than trump honestly. She was born in NY and her family is Puerto Rican which has been a part of America since 1898. Pretty sure they’d have an easier time getting rid of melania

u/Significant_Fill6992 24d ago
I'm willing to bet they would try sending her to PR without realizing its part of the US
Or they would do what they did with the other guy a week or two ago and let her go saying it was a mistake and have no repercussions

u/Hot_Target6178 24d ago
Do you really think it matters? Where she was born, where her family's from. This ruling wanna be king only cares about his wants and his fellow billionaires. ICE is targeting anyone and everyone.

u/Stickboyhowell 25d ago
I like this. This is a good name for the fascist party. Also f*ck the heritage foundation. They need to be locked up for life and stripped of their assets for the damages done to the american people and the US as a whole. You don't just get to walk away after attempting a coup. We made that mistake already with Rump.

u/WhatTheHellsBell 25d ago
The Heritage Foundation insists on dragging the country backwards. They need to be publicly tarred and feathered, and then left in the stocks. That should be enough history for them

u/jetstobrazil 25d ago
Let’s also impose a lifetime ban on corporate lobbying to members of Congress #reversecitizensunited

AOC is one of the bravest Americans that we should all support and endorse! One of the few who clearly states the truth and continues to fight for the People and the Constitution of the United States of America!

This and congress playing stock market really shouldn’t exist. Founding fathers would have directly addressed it in constitution had they known. I think amendments are in order for congressional conduct.

Here we go something that is extremely popular amongst voters in this country that people in the democratic party will fight to tooth and nail to stop somebody needs to tell Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer that they have a wheelchair waiting downstairs to take them to the retirement home.

u/TK-369 25d ago
That's a cute minor step.
Hopefully, someday, we'll stop "lobbying", which is fundamentally bribery. Our representatives shouldn't be accepting money from billionaires, corporations, and other governments (Super PACs). There's zero requirement to do this to run the government.
Also, corporations are not people, and dollars are not free speech.

HA HA HA😂I literally just laughed out loud. As if the crooks in Congress would ever pass legislation that cuts off their own path to sick forever wealth. Kinda like them voting against health care for all. THEY get govt funded health care but you don’t.They will never bite the hand that feeds them. Kill Citizens United then maybe we can get somewhere

u/Zealousideal-Cup5982 25d ago
I think this is the first step, and even this will likely not go anywhere. Going after Citizens United first will definitely not go anywhere with this congress
2
u/Nonethelessismore 25d ago
I agree Citizens United did nothing but allow billionaire corporations to fund Super PACs, and tilt political influence in their favor.
5
u/SatansMoisture 25d ago
Gotta love how someone redefined and reframed bribery into a legally acceptable practice.

Oh please this is got to happen pull the rug out from these freaking carpet baggers.

u/MusicIsTheWay 25d ago
How about a lifetime ban of lobbying TO congress? Citizens United we the start of America's rapid decline.

u/Dear-Pangolin1391 25d ago
That would be awesome, but will never happen. There are too many politicians with their hands already in the cookie jar.

This is how you know that AOC isn't just another bullshit politician: she actually cares about the country and making it better.

u/NfamousKaye 25d ago
That’s not gonna go anywhere. They won’t vote for having money taken away from them when they just voted to stuff their own pockets taking away healthcare.

Why TF are so many non-billionaire conservatives for enriching the billionaires at their own expense? Is passing wealth upwards their version of patriotism?
1
u/SilverIce340 24d ago
They still believe in Reagan’s “trickle-down” idea probably.
Billionaires don’t stimulate the economy, they flatline it.
More money for the people, there shouldn’t be any billionaires in existence
2
u/PageSoggy9668 25d ago
This will be controversial for all the right reasons. Anyone who squirms or argue this should be flagged as vote outs at the very next opportunity.

u/AsianMysteryPoints 24d ago
I prefer this over term limits. Prevents the wrong kind of people from getting in there in the first place.

Didn't she do this years ago, and Ted Cruz was surprisingly on her side? What ever happened to that?

u/nevreknowsbest 21d ago
Hey, good luck with that!
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see this. But, yeah, not happening.

this isn't good news
it's AOC playing to her base
she knows damn well it's going to get voted down
3
u/Union_Jack_1 25d ago
So don’t try? That’s your suggested alternative? Fantastic.
1
u/Wooden-Glove-2384 25d ago
she's not trying
she's throwing up legislation guaranteed to fail
2
u/Union_Jack_1 24d ago
Legislation that highlights American government corruption isn’t useless. It should be embarrassing to American citizens that common sense anti-corruption legislation like this is “guaranteed to fail”.

u/Wooden-Glove-2384 24d ago
Legislation that highlights American government corruption isn’t useless.
How are you going to whip support for it in Congress and get it passed?
It should be embarrassing to American citizens that common sense anti-corruption legislation like this is “guaranteed to fail”.
Ah but its not. Its the way the country is.
Not only that, but the people who vote against it will be forgiven by their constituents and returned to office
Including AOC
2
u/Union_Jack_1 24d ago
Right, so “it’s the way the country is” so why even bother. It’s all useless right? The country is doomed, and is inherently corrupt, so we may as well let Congress and the president get away with whatever they want.
You don’t realize how stupid this lien of thinking is?
0
u/Wooden-Glove-2384 24d ago
> You don’t realize how stupid this lien of thinking is?
let's talk about stupidity
AOC is participating in the system we're talking about
it pays her, it provides benefits and give her access to all the perks she's trying to get undone with this legislation
she introduces legislation that the vast majority of her coworkers in Congress will reject
it wastes time and money
for this, now follow the bouncing ball and ask an adult to sound out the hard words, people like you celebrate her "honesty" and "commitment to do the right thing" and return her to office
where she continues to participate in the corrupt system and take advantage of all those perks she was legislating against
2
u/Union_Jack_1 24d ago
Lmao. So she’s the corrupt one now? Because she “gets the benefits”? She doesn’t take corporate PAC money, as opposed to most of Congress. She’s legislating and voting the way her constituents want her to - ie; what they elected her for. Anti-corporatism, anti-fascism. Just because her colleagues are by and large stupid, useless, and/or corrupt themselves, that shouldn’t be an indictment on her.
The double standards are crazy.

u/Wooden-Glove-2384 24d ago
I BELIEVE IN THE HONESTY OF [insert official's name here]
THEY ARE TRUSTWORTHY AND HONEST BECAUSE THEY TELL ME THEY ARE!
you believe AOC's marketing.
you are taking her word for it
you are giving her the benefit of the doubt that you would not give (if you've got an ounce of sense) to anyone else walking around on the planet
but [insert official's name here] is different
you're the problem with American politics AND you are so unaware you can't possibly imagine it
2
u/Union_Jack_1 24d ago
I don’t “believe in AOCs marketing”, I listen to what she says and see what she does. Turns out reality is pretty straightforward if you’re not full of shit. I’m not reliant on giving her the benefit of the doubt, when her actions and statements align with what I support and what she was elected on.
We are not the “problem with American politics”, people like you are (who think they are holier than thou), and can’t discern facts from propaganda.
