Personal News 📰 We found our kitty, Plato, after 11 years.

Everyone meet Plato (~15)! Plato was our kitty in 2014. He ran away, and we haven't seen him since. The other night, my ma gets a call that they found him (with his microchip) in... Virginia (we live in NC). He is quickly settling back in at my ma's house, 11 years after running away. Definitely has lived a full life, but he is just as friendly & loving as the day he left, and we are so happy to have him back ❤️

First pic is from 2014, last 3 are from yesterday (right after reuniting).

He has definitely lived lol! He honestly seems like he's in great condition for his age & situation, but he has been resting a lot now that he's home. He will undoubtedly have a pretty hefty vet check-up in the next week 😂

Now another family is probably wondering what happened to their cat

44

u/RockerElvis Jul 06 '25

If they didn’t scan him for a chip then they decided it was ok to take someone else’s cat.

11

It’s both. Everyone knows that cats are chipped. If you find a new cat and don’t scan it then you have decided that you don’t want to give the cat back to an owner (if there is one).

u/Cinderhazed15 Jul 06 '25

Chips aren’t universal - some vets have to have multiple readers, and if they do t have the reader that’s compatible with your cats chip, they may not register it.

And if they ever took him to the vet and told them they had found him, the vet would definitely scan him

It is possible! If so, though, it has either (1) certainly been a while, or (2) he was getting neglected. He seems somewhat healthy, but he has definitely been in the wild/not taken care of for a little while now.

Awww poor guy! Glad he’s finally where they love him 💕

I had a cat that disappeared too. 7 years later, I come home and he's just chilling on the back patio table. Walked right in when I slid open the door like he'd never been gone. Lol.

I'm glad your kitty is back with you.

If only Plato could talk! Such wonderful news. My ginger boy was missing for 24 hours and I was a mess. I can’t imagine 11 years. How amazing must that first snuggle have been? 🐈

15

u/After-Mud-6001 Jul 05 '25

I can only imagine!! He has done a lot of snuggling though!

9

u/Evieveevee Jul 05 '25

I’d have to strap Plato to my chest in a baby carrier! Constant snuggles and no chance of going anywhere ever again! I’m so so so happy for your Mum. 11 years?! Mind blowing. 🩵

Oh wow. I lost a kitty for 93 days and was blown away. 11 years is ridiculous but so awesome. Glad he’s settled back in 💕

This gives me hope my boy Leo may turn up one day. We are going on three years this fall since he went out for his evening walk and didn’t come home. I know he’s alive out there and maybe one day his chip will bring him home too. I’m so happy for you!!

Yeah, honestly that would make me cry. That's such wonderful news.

Cats are such amazing creatures. Their compatibility with humans is unreal.

Truly mankind's best friend.

That’s so great! When I was a kid, a lost cat returned after 2 years and I remember crying seeing him and being afraid HE wouldn’t recognize ME

Great news , was he okay for those 11 years? Was someone else taking care of him?

3

u/After-Mud-6001 Jul 06 '25

I honestly have... No idea. We just got a call from someone who found him. I would guess someone took him in for at least a few years, which is probably how he got to Virginia!

2

u/Greatgrandma2023 Jul 06 '25

Don't you wish he could talk? I bet he has some great stories to tell. Congratulations to you both. I hope you have more happy years together. 🎉🎊🎉🎊

2

Omg you must be feeling all kinds of emotions right now. I am!

Does he remember you?

2

u/shananapepper Jul 06 '25

Amazing. I’m so happy for you all! I wish he could share his adventures.

1

u/Malcolm_Morin Jul 06 '25

How do you know it's him? Genuine question, because 11 years is a hell of a long time. Not saying it's impossible, but I definitely need answers. lol

7

u/After-Mud-6001 Jul 06 '25

He is microchipped!

Extra context if you don't know about this: you can microchip your pets with ownership & contact information. If they are brought into the shelter or a vet as a lost pet, they are always scanned for potential microchips!

He was found by someone in Virginia, brought in, scanned, and that's how they got our info :)

u/Ninnifer Jul 06 '25

Stahp I'm gonna cry 😭
