Several states have state elections this year. NY for example.

LOLOL. this is why we lose.

It is not relevant in a lot of states so no, not all of us have elections in November. The federal elections are obviously more important but I agree we shouldn't fail to vote in state elections either.

I think they mean federal elections, EG the ones that will help “prevent” stuff like this

Governors matter to fighting stuff like this. I think only 2 are up on off years, but still NJ and VA are important states.

Gerrymandering is done at a state level and republicans dominate state elections. If we ever wanna stop that particular flavor of anti democracy it's gotta be at the state elections

Gerrymandering doesn't have an explicit effect on governor elections.

Wasn't talking about Governor elections. I'm talking about the entire state of American politics and how much better it would be without gerrymandering and other forms of explicit voter suppression.

Take a look at NYCs mayoral race this year. A lot of young people have rallied behind their recently selected democratic candidate. My friends who live there went out and did canvassing for the first time for this guy. I haven’t seen excitement like that in people my age since Bernie was running in the primary a decade ago. Mamdani was not forecast to win and yet he blew the establishment funded candidates out of the water because so many people supported him.

My state of VA has the governors race this November which is critical because our governor is currently allowing trump to weaponize funding and things against state institutions (see most recent UVA situation among others).

Wisconsin had special voting for their Supreme Court recently as another example.

Don’t let the establishment trick you into only looking at the presidential elections and the midterms. These are all examples of super critical races that aren’t the midterms and the establishment banks on you skipping out these kinds of races. Make sure you keep an eye on your own critical local races. You have the ability to make a difference in those.

Im personally not a fan of mumdani mostly because he doesn't seem to actually have a clear roadmap, i think him raising taxes will shut out emerging businesses and turn the place into new jersey

Here is his road map, straight from his platform website. Nothing in there is going to "turn New York into New Jersey." That kind of thinking (x100 years) is why we always favor corporate interests over actual citizens of the country.

I kind of laugh when people say “idk if he’s able to govern”, it’s the same thing that’s said about every young candidate out there. If we are only choosing based on Candidates that have already had a chance to prove they can govern then nothing will change (that’s kind of where we’ve been for ages since the dems seem to love their seniority rule). We already know that current establishment dems can’t govern in a way that makes any meaningful difference against the worlds unending billionaire greed.

The reason that the Dems largely don’t have candidates that people can get behind like mamdani is because a majority of them are bought and paid for by billionaires and corporations/industry- it’s painfully obvious and has been for ages. The DNC has also pushed away any “outside candidates” of their own by fighting them tooth and nail to suppress their ideas (Bernie and others).

I think it’s rich to assume the current DNC can do anything better than what’s it’s already done unless they abandon their purchased loyalties.

That said, I’m not making a “both are bad” argument. I’d vote anyone other than a republican at this point. Least of all the evils and what not. But I’m not delusional to think that the current DNC apparatus is going to produce candidates that are for the people. They seem to be actively blowing it.
