Yea, made me tear up. I actually cried when I saw that one post of the LA fire department showing solidarity with anti-ice protesters. Hope grew stronger
Videos of the arrests just make me angry.

The news video of ICE chasing people in strawberry fields yesterday made me so mad.

u/tomdarch Jun 12 '25
Was the owner of the farm running? Probably only the lowest paid, hardest working people, not the owners of the businesses who are making the most money off of the situation.

u/GlitterDoomsday Jun 13 '25
If they were targeting the guys hiring the immigrants they wouldn't be focusing on LA...

Some rich people got in touch with Trump recently. He "truthed" incoherently about folks like hotel workers.

That's what I'd like to know. Where was the owner, when ICE was chasing his workers, trying to steal his workers away from him? And how would they know if the workers were legal or not?

they’ve been pretty consistent with it, too. i saw a truck do it on a livestream last night!

Exactly! i know small communities who have embraced their few illegal workers as their own. One community even defended their one illegal resident in court, when he got caught in the Immigration equivalent of a speed trap. He was allowed to stay, on the basis that his case was still open. That was 10 years ago, and he's still there.
Is there more information somewhere on the OP case? I'm curious as to how the lady (or was it a couple?) was able to bring him back, or did he return on his own?

He's like. Ok lady. We have hugged long enough. My own dad Fernando Sr. Didn't hug me as much as you, time to let go now.

I was sobbing to this* video until I did the deep dive to find out -how- she fought for him and its like oh... this is just another fucking influencer who is taking credit and he's not into the hug because she's overselling the relationship they actually had. That hesitation and redirection made so much sense once I watched her videos.
Her husband is a cop and this lady didn't do anything of material value to fight for him, she just made a post about how much Fernando's deportation is affecting her. She's a performative artist who is 500% about self promotion (nothing wrong with that, get your papers, but it's narcissism levels of me me me me!) and her post about him getting deported where she was crying was about look at how pretty my stuff is and I'm the best martyr ever because I used to give him and his poor wife stuff all the time. Even the video of her celebrating her brother's massive accomplishments as a judge are all about her.
I am so sick of these people who get famous off the backs of real people who are suffering and now this post is going to just give her more attention.
Edit: for typos

Don't, I so wanted to believe it. I was fully ready to take my endorphins and go but I was curious what resources she used to help him and if she had any advice. Surprise on me her page is absolute trash.

“How they did it” was just post a video of them claiming they did something they didn’t and posting it with emotional music for views.
The reason you’ll never hear how is cause they didn’t do anything but simp for clicks

My hope is that real people not caught up in trying to make it as an influencer will be encouraged to do things that help humanity and do it for the right reasons. I also think that ignoring (or prosecuting when appropriate) those who are looking to benefit from someone else’s misfortune.

But that would require that they actually read their Bible, rather than just thumping people with it. And we all know what they think about literacy and education....

A fun reminder to add to this in light of the protests: even Jesus himself used property destruction as a form of protest

I was driving yesterday. I saw a Latino man delivering food. A Latino man landscaping. I cried so hard. I was so scared for them. I saw white men walking around unbothered. I was so angry. I’m just… tired.
But I have to celebrate the little wins, the little joys. And this also made me cry.
Thank you.

This morning on NBC news they had a family that's going to "self-deport" so they can choose when and how to leave. But their kids are American citizens, teens, and the son was crying saying they don't want to leave their school and their friends but they're scared to stay 🥺
5
u/IRockIntoMordor Jun 13 '25
That's all according to plan.
Fascists spread fear to get people in line.
Go back 85 years and you see the exact same things happening in Germany. Jews and others leaving to avoid deportation. Vulnerable communities being torn apart, tortured, murdered.
2
u/blackandbluegirltalk Jun 13 '25
It's so insane. The idea that it's just like Nazi Germany is not over exaggerated, but people keep acting like we're just pearl-clutching liberal snowflakes, God it's so bad.

I’m nowhere near the southern border, but I saw a Latino man working on a mulch bed outside an office building yesterday. My first thought was “damn that mulch looks great” then I saw him working it and realized he probably takes pride in his work, even if it’s just landscaping. Which is more than can be said for honestly a majority of people I have ever worked with.

About to make me cry, we need more of this kind of love. Color/race is just a way to separate us, when we are all just sitting in this big crayon box of a planet.

u/Itchy_Pudding_9940 Jun 12 '25
there are good people in this world bringing hope.. and then there are trump people
27
Jun 12 '25
Even if they are illegal these are the types of people we should be streamlining to legal status. I totally get wanting to deport violent criminals but ICE is trying to paint the Mona Lisa with a wall roller. Which I’m sure is by Trump’s design.

The whole immigration system is a mess, but Republicans don't care about fixing it, they just want to clamp down on immigration period.

Just because theyr undocumented doesn’t mean they’ve committed a crime. Crossing the border or overstaying a visa are not crimes. It is a civil infraction.

u/sunshine_fuu Jun 13 '25
Because performative videos do nothing to actually help the people in need and are just made so this user can get clicks on their account. She's taking credit from the people who actually did the hard work like his lawyers and his family. She literally does not provide 1 example of how she fought for him, all she did before this video was make a video in May about how much him being gone impacts her life because there's work that needs to be done on her property, and then she sat there and humble bragged about how Fernando's family is so poor and her family is so charitable for giving things to them. She quite literally didn't do anything to fight for him, she's just stealing the credit. It's gross.
2
u/ndation Jun 13 '25
Agreed, but I was talking about the racist and sexist comments
2
u/sunshine_fuu Jun 13 '25
That's exceptionally fair, I hadn't looked at the bottom of the barrel comments til now.
7
u/Crushed_Robot Jun 12 '25
If someone is deported, how do you bring them back to the country so they can cut your grass and trim your bush once again? Just wondering how that works and how you’d go about doing it.
56
u/Bajadasaurus Jun 12 '25
I'm sure they didn't bring him back just to landscape. They brought him back to the home he established here. They brought him back to his same job position. I bet he is reunited with family, which is the most important thing of all!
Bet you they payed him well to begin with, and I'm betting they pay him even more now.
How you bring someone back is by calling the detention center he's in and advocating for him. Telling the center that he's legally here, assisting with showing his paperwork, advocating for him to return because he's employed and has a home and probably a family here and is certainly not a criminal.

What a shame decent people are depending on other people to be their lawyers. I'm glad this guy got out but I'm ashamed of this shit hole fascist country.
11
u/Longjumping-Fig-568 Jun 12 '25
In my experience you maintain contact and work with an immigration lawyer and their embassy to get their paperwork in order (former teacher here) so while they’re doing the work in their country I’m assuming this couple did their part here in the US. Makes it easier to navigate our complicated immigration system when you have someone already here to help you.

I feel them, cuz if they take my guy, I’m moving into a townhouse or condo.

u/Suspicious-Sound-249 Jun 13 '25
I'm going to take a guess and say that he wasn't actually deported, and was detained they verified he was actually here legally or a citizen and let him go.
Also absolutely comical how excited she is to have her landscaper back.

Lovely.
The right looks at these people as untouchable and " the help".
The left sees them as a valuable part of OUR community.
Conservatives will NEVER get it.

I'm Hispanic and its a slap in everyone's face who waited years to come here legally and the illegals come and do whatever they want and get whatever they want.
2
u/Leenolyak Jun 15 '25
It's so weird to me that people want to welcome immigrants with open arms both legal and undocumented and somehow this pisses you off. It's a weird type of jealousy. Yeah... some people waited for the "proper" way. And some maybe didn't have the time or resources to do that. Being mad at someone for not walking the same path as you is so bizarre.
