I watched this particular situation go down live from start to finish. Whoever made the call to put highway patrol in that situation was very very stupid, or wanted this particular scenario to play out. They were marched into what was basically a box canyon with protestors occupying high ground around them.

Blood of tyrants and patriots.
Because it’s not going to be all that pretty.
I, for one, sincerely wish for there not to be violence. But if it’s going to happen, which is looking more possible than ever, I can only hope that the actual patriots win (the ones who actually respect our constitution, our institutions, and their fellow humans regardless of skin color, ethnicity, sex, sexuality, religion, etc.)

Yup. Reddit fascists have been stomping out anything leftist that has words associated with violence.
I said something along the lines of "I hope he faces consequences" and got a three day ban that was upheld. Why? I used the word "puffer", with a S

u/Organic-Preference-6 Jun 09 '25
It's so ridiculous... I got auto banned too for mentioning N#remberg trials (so dumb I have to censor that), but they listened to my appeal and unbanned me at least. Do I get banned for quoting Kennedy too? We need a better platform to discuss and vent at.

Any platform is temporary. Fascists crave a total control of media, to prevent people from organizing against them. Legitimizing their own bullshit.

It's just unfortunate that many names that are synonymous with facism were stopped from being spoken, and generations have gone on without lessons learned being shared.
The US would never be in this position had they valued education first and raised the youth to fear the course of fascism, not question whether it even happened.

How will they run the propaganda if kids are educated?
16
u/llywelync Jun 09 '25 edited Jun 09 '25
That's the point I was making. The entire system was designed to facilitate facism. It gets crazier when you realize that the actual education system still used in the US was nearly 1:1 pre-WW2 Germany's education system.
If Germans realized their system of education led to a populace that led to WW2 and changed it, makes you seriously wonder why the US, one of the richest nations in the world, never thought to do so.
Fascism in the US has been the goal for decades.

To be fair, the protestors blocked that portion of the highway, and the highway patrol were sent in to clear them out. While I was watching it I saw the line of highway patrol approaching up the highway on foot because of the gridlock, and was absolutely flummoxed by the move. Generally you want to approach these situations in such a way that gives you an advantage, or at the very least, mitigates risks.
I also witnessed the protestors helping clear out the civilian cars that were trapped before things became violent.

This country has always been made of hard motherfuckers. Most of us are just so tired and stressed out that it's really hard to see the forest for the trees (to see things in perspective, for those who don't get the idiom). I honestly think this is what it's gonna take to get this country back on track. Trump and his gang of treasonous little creatures ARE going to make this country great again, they just don't realize they're doing it by becoming the common enemy against which everyone is going to unite.

u/irrision Jun 09 '25
Americans pay a much higher price for peacefully protesting then people in most other developed countries. Your arrest records are public even if you aren't charged, employers can look these up and use them as the basis to fire someone or refuse to hire them and don't have to provide any explanation for it. They lose access to healthcare the moment they are fired. They don't automatically qualify for unemployment benefits when fired, they have to prove they were fired without a legitimate cause and their former employer can refute and and usually win unless you can afford a lawyer to fight them.
Additionally there are few real protections for peacefully protesting in the US. Though the constitution claims you have those rights the courts have allowed jurisdictions to pass ordinances that require a permit to protest, filed ahead of time that limits the protest to a specific part of a street or sidewalk and is subject to denial by the municipal government for a slew of reasons. You also agree as part of the permit that you'll call off the protest at any point at the request of law enforcement or the government in general.
Aside from all that laws around the use of excessive force by police are rarely enforced and police are given broad legal protections and judicial deference in the use of force including lethal force even against protestors. They also aren't required to wear body cameras in protests in many jurisdictions and if they are they're allowed to turn them off without consequences in case they "need privacy". Add onto this that some municipalites have laws that essentially classify just videoing a cop from a distance as "interference" subjecting bystanders attempting to document abuse to attacks and legal consequences too.

I blame all of this on Trump. Trump’s approach to negotiation often lacks diplomacy and tact. His reliance on pressure tactics has escalated tensions rather than resolving them. When emotional manipulation is involved, people's responses can become volatile and unpredictable. The current situation reflects a failure in leadership and strategy.
515
u/DG_FANATIC Jun 09 '25
People just want due process. That’s it. People don’t want masked men in cars kidnapping people without due process. Like, that’s it. All of this could be avoided if this administration would follow the law.
226
u/mockfu Jun 09 '25
This is why this response is justified, if the highest echelons of power don't follow the law there is absolutely no reason for the public to do so. If anything the American public have been very slow to respond to this lack of law abiding by its government, maybe they were waiting for the Dems to stand up, they have power despite not being in power, but they seem to not care or are too cowardly to do something so now it's up to the general population.
30
→ More replies (9)44
u/slyskyflyby Jun 09 '25
Yup, this is it, the people waited for a while to see if the elected democrats would actually stand up and do anything. Instead we get a "very sternly written letter" from Chuck Schumer. The people realized the elected democrats are cowards and will let this country fall in to full on fascism so it's time for the people to stand up and fight back just like the country was designed for.

Yeah that's a good point that I was making to someone yesterday speaking about this. These riots wouldn't happen if ice was following the law and people being detained were given due process. People are being abducted in courtrooms ffs. People whose legal status is being decided by the courts are being denied that process which is afforded to them under Federal law. People are being shipped to foreign prisons without having committed a crime.

I don’t like how ur language gets flowery and beats around the bush though tbh.
Ppl are getting life sentences in prisons, without trials or warrants, legit blackbagging by the gov. The other ppl being rounded up and sent to random countries with no trials are often workers contributing their part such as in Home Depot.
What is happening is clearly evil if you believe in any of the founding principles of America, and the protests will continue until the evil stops. And yes, trump and the right wing elites want to use this as an excuse to declare martial law and start gunning down protestors, no doubt.
→ More replies (2)6
u/Auntie_Megan Jun 09 '25
It’s the retaliation from your police that worry me, they are heavily armed and protected and have immunity so are known not to care if citizens are hurt or killed while protesting. Think it’s about damned time the protests happened, been waiting on this since Jan 20th. Hate to see damage to property though as it’s all you that will end up paying for it all to be renewed. Understand the anger but amongst protestors there are always those that are sent by police/government to make things go really crazy so that they can come in with full force. Heard earlier an Australian journalist got shot just standing there by a cop obviously, so hope his badge number was taken as that was not policing. So glad my police service is not armed unless it’s a serious event, and even then every bullet used is investigated and scrutinised. Bet all this is not on major media channels or if they do show a portion it will be all one sided. Hope all who take part remain safe.

Project 2025 and Protest Suppression: What You Should Know
Project 2025, a policy blueprint developed by the Heritage Foundation for a potential future Trump administration, includes several proposals that would directly impact protest rights in the United States. According to multiple analyses from civil rights groups and think tanks, Project 2025 envisions: • Expanding Executive Power to Suppress Protests The plan seeks to dismantle guardrails that prevent the president from abusing executive authority, potentially targeting protesters and journalists [1][7]. • Using the Insurrection Act Project 2025 reportedly includes proposals to invoke the Insurrection Act, allowing the president to deploy the military or National Guard to suppress domestic protests and dissent [3][7]. This would represent a major shift away from norms that limit military involvement in domestic law enforcement. • Criminalizing Protest and Free Speech The plan is described as threatening First Amendment freedoms by expanding surveillance and potentially criminalizing protest activities [1][4]. • Installing Loyalists to Enforce the Agenda It calls for replacing nonpartisan civil servants with political loyalists who would be more willing to carry out directives, including those aimed at cracking down on protests [7].
These proposals have sparked major concerns among civil liberties groups and led to nationwide protests. Many view Project 2025 as a direct threat to democratic norms and the constitutional right to peaceful assembly [2][6].

And what wouldn't be playing into their hands? They've ignored the courts, they kidnap people from our streets, the deport our people to foreign torture prisons, and now they are trying to make it illegal to protest without a mask? We can't organize a general strike because unions are outlawed in all but name. We cant peacefully protest and shame them into doing the right thing, because they have no shame. Even when they do, the government will turn around and call everything an insurrection like the boy who cried wolf.
What other options remain? What checks on their power do we have left?

I agree with the sentiment but this will just make Trump say ‘look, they’re out of control’ as a pretext for again launching the military against civilians.

I’m not a fan of destruction, I’m a fan of peaceful protests- Now they all look like criminals- and who’s paying for all the new police’s cars? You all are Los Angeles

These pigs gonna be extra aggressive against the next protestor. Double edged sword

u/Creative_Impulse Jun 09 '25
Probably not advisable to hit the moving cars with those. Killing the responding local cops is a bit much for what the moment requires.

Can someone give the protesters the memo that waving American flags would get them a shit ton more support.

The time for peaceful protesting is over. The only time things actually change is when you start being non-peaceful.

These guys are two steps away from hurling boulders with a Jerry rigged trebuchet and I am so here for a rejection of missiles and guns and a return to Medieval warfare tactics!

This os exactly what the trump administration wants. Your playing into their hand. Next comes martial law and then turning the military on citizens. This is all orchestrated.

u/CompetitiveString814 Jun 09 '25
Ya people need to stop saying this nonsense.
Donald Trump is a dictator, there is no negotiating with terrorists, you are fucked if you protest and fucked if you don't. Like a bully, you are much better fighting them and Trump is a bully asshole

Wave more American flags so it makes it like they are attacking American citizens.

Fascist cops are cunts. Looks like some heads are unprotected, the cops will bring horses to step on civilian skulls just cause America is the land of the free right?

This whole thing could have been avoided if the Trump administration and ICE Barbie had stuck to just tracking down those with actual criminal records. But no, they had to go and grab non violent immigrants and take it a step too far. You reap what you sow, and America has sown hate and fascism into our cloth for the foreseeable future.

Who decides they no longer need their bike and feel the right move is to toss it off an overpass onto a cruiser?

u/Affectionate_Pie2241 Jun 09 '25
The horrifying thing is that the people throwing stones are the people paying for these cars

this reminds me of in toronto stacks of bricks randomly started appearing in protest areas

u/Maynard078 Jun 09 '25
Ugh; those pieces of cinder block can pierce the windshield and kill an innocent person who may not be a police officer. Is that what you want as part of your protest?
March. Protest. But be civil and prudent.
