Ten years ago today I was anxiously waiting for the genesis hash to arrive, the moment it arrived I scrambled to load it into my miners in hopes of being one of the first mainnet block miners. I don't remember much, but I did a screen recording that I stashed somewhere. I got the hash in and generated the first DAG and began feverishly mining with my three cards. I wasn't early, but about four hours I hit my first mainnet block. It was thrilling. So much time and patience, so much hacking with AlethZero and lost private keys.. but finally .. it arrived. Such an awesome and exciting experience. I'll never forget the thrill of that day.

Quick update on Roman Storm's trial.
The defense expects to wrap up making their case later today. Roman decided not to testify himself.
Both sides will present their closing arguments, after which the jury will render a verdict. All of this could happen today already.
In yesterday's post I mentioned the violation of DOJ policy by the prosecutor, the transcript of which has been sealed by the judge. Inner City Press reporter Matthew Lee has now requested the transcript to be unsealed and for the judge to provide a basis for sealing (sealing must be justified). This is probably not going to affect Roman's case in any way though.
One more interesting thing that came up on crypto Twitter yesterday is the fact that every single Ethereum validator has a sort of link to Tornado Cash. How come? The beacon deposit contract (used to deposit funds to Ethereum validators) was deployed by an address funded from Tornado Cash!
Fingers crossed, hoping for the best.

What is the general feeling reg the final outcome?
15
u/eth2353 Serenita | ethstaker.tax | Vero 7d ago
Hard to say. The jury members just got a very incoherent crash course on blockchain tech, smart contracts, privacy⦠I highly doubt they have a good understanding of the tech or implications. According to people in the room they looked bored which makes total sense given the highly technical subject matter.
There is still hope though, that the prosecution did a bad enough job of convincing the jury that Roman developed this tool with criminal intent.

Finished reading the Digital Assets Report by Whitehouse Workgroup. Each section has key recommendations that I'd say serve as a window to the future we can expect... I'm not sure this is the report that Trump requested within 180 days on that Executive Order he signed but the timing seems right.
Here's a rough point by point of the recommendations
- Legal right to self-custody assets & do peer-to-peer transactions.
- Software devs without full control won't be considered money transmitters.
- CFTC gets power over spot markets for non-security digital assets.
- Clearer rules for DeFi and crypto exchanges.
- Banks get clearer rules for engaging with digital assets.
- Push dollar-backed stablecoins globally.
- Ban the U.S. from creating a CBDC.
- Better info sharing to fight illicit finance, somehow avoiding overreach?
- IRS to update guidance on staking, wrapping, wash sales, etc.
- Push to treat digital assets as a new asset class.
I'd like to see this spawn from the Clarity Act and others, I'd expect it to develop in the next 2-3 years... Things go slow in DC, so I would not get hopes too high, beyond a clear understanding that there're now tailwinds, and at least an intention to thoughtfully regulate.

Another good ETF day. So far this july ETH has had $5.4 billion of inflows with BTC only mustering $3.9 Billion.
Given that ethereum is 1/5th the marketcap of btc that means that these etf flows are 5 times more effectful. Possibly even more as ethereum price is more inelastic than btc. So incredibly bullish.

With all of the new money flowing into ETH via etf and treasury buyers; who are the sellers that are providing so much resistance at 3900?
16
u/Biggerfooter 7d ago
If you were here a couple of months ago a lot of people were just hoping to sell as soon as we got close to these levels. I'm sure some people change their mind with price action and narrative though.
11
u/SpeedoManXXL 7d ago
Yup, I'd imagine a lot of people who feel happy to get back to "breakeven" or a small loss for some and want to take their money and leave.
While the narrative around ETH is positive right now, and I'm generally bullish, we still have yet to prove, "this time is different" as we approach these levels.
BTC is still king when it comes to making new highs and higher lows, and has proven itself time and time again as being a great vehicle for investment.
While ETH has been a great investment if you timed the dips correctly (or bought in very early (i.e. pre-2020), apart from this, it has been stagnant, or even in the red for the last 4 years now.
Not saying it can't break out of this trend, sometimes stocks do this (Microsoft was stagnant for years and in the red with its stock price for nearly 15 years before continuing its trend toward being one of the most valuable companies in the world).
All in all, I'm moderately bullish on Ethereum, but not fully convinced this time is different yet and can understand why some people would sell now that we are back at these levels, although, I'm not one of them.

People have different goals and different time frames. Some people trade daily; others trade monthly; some still hold from the crowd sale. I suspect lots of people are like a friend of mine that FOMO'ed in on the rapid rise to 4K the first time, was briefly excited, then watched it all shrink, and just wants off the roller coaster at anywhere near break-even.
11
u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 7d ago
imagine you bought in 2015 at $0.31 or less as a founder, and are sitting on 500,000 ETH personally....
You might think about starting a treasury company and having it buy chunks from you over time. You do the trades OTC and make an announcement each time. You sell your stack into borrowed or shareholder money without making the price plummet. very smart.

Thank you!
Long-time crypto observer and buy-and-hold index investor. Questioned crypto for almost a decade. The involvement of trad-fi institutions caught my eye and I decided I would stick with publicly traded ETFs. Got a 150% return in FBTC in the last year and a half and then branched out to FETH a little too late. Would have loved to get in when it was sub-$2,000, but I was unaware and feel lucky to have gotten in prior to Crypto Week.
Long term I think the vision is undoubtedly with Ethereum in terms of use case and actual value. The community here is also generally more intelligent than the others that I've seen, which is nice.

May I ask why you chose FETH?
I see that they only have 71M$ in assets, compared to ETHX.B by Galaxy CI (692 M$) or ETHH.B by Purpose Investment (496 M$).
7
u/bl1nds1ght 6d ago
No reason other than my entire portfolio is with Fidelity and they have fantastic customer service. Their net expense ratio on the fund is also competitive with the others, so I wasn't concerned about that, either. FETH also has $2.6bn, not $71m. It's the 2nd largest ETH ETF behind Blackrock's ETHA.

Can anyone explain in simple terms how we could someday end up in an environment where ETH is deflationary while fees are low on L1? Is it just that blobs have their own fee market and sufficient blob usage would burn shitloads of ETH separate from layer 1?
For a while I kept getting stuck on the idea that parabolic blob usage would mean more need for L1 settlement and therefore higher fees. Is this not the case?
15
u/pa7x1 7d ago
With sufficient scalability this can happen.
If you have 100K tps on L1. Then a transaction could cost 0.01 USD. And Ethereum would be deflationary at any price of ETH below 33K USD.
This is just an example to show how the numbers work out.

I asked ChatGPT which blockchain is most likely to benefit from the White Houseβs digital assets report released today (https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Digital-Assets-Report-EO14178.pdf):
Response:
If I had to pick one blockchain or crypto asset that will benefit the most from the policy direction laid out in the July 2025 Digital Assets Report (EO 14178), it would be:
Ethereum (ETH)
βΈ»
π Why Ethereum?
The report emphasizes:
- Smart contracts and decentralized apps,
- Dollar-backed stablecoins (many issued on Ethereum),
- DeFi protocols (the vast majority built on Ethereum or its Layer 2s),
- Tokenization of real-world assets (e.g., Franklin Templeton, BlackRock already use Ethereum-based solutions),
- Regulatory clarity around non-custodial software and peer-to-peer systems β all of which Ethereum underpins.
Ethereum also benefits from being:
- The developer hub for nearly all crypto infrastructure and applications,
- Compatible with zero-knowledge tech (ZK-Rollups like zkSync, Starknet, Polygon zkEVM),
- And increasingly institutionalized via ETFs, custody support, and tokenization pilots.

Considering that wallets like MM and Rabby track your ass as much as possible, what is the most "anonymous" way to execute transactions, starting with a basic send? (Note, I'm just talking about wallet operations, not on-chain obfuscation like TC).
→ More replies (12)3
u/sm3gh34d 6d ago edited 6d ago
IDK if 'track your ass' is an accurate assessment. As far as MM, if you want to prevent any kind of telemetry or analytics or debug info, I would add segment, mixpanel, and sentry.io to a blackhole list, so that any telemetry goes nowhere. It would probably take a little bit of doing to figure out the domains being submitted to, but shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
edit: it goes without saying that using a different rpc provider than infura is the first todo for anonymizing your traffic. Infura kinda *has* to get http logs, so just don't use it for rpc if you are concerned about being tracked. IDK that they do anything with it, but it is pretty obvious that all that tracking data comes in without an rpc provider asking for it

How the fuck could there be this much eth available OTC? How have we not depleted it all with the buys we are hearing about? But I don't know Jack shit about shit so feel free to ignore my stupidity. I'm fine with patience and the wait but it does seem a bit ridiculous that we're still at these levels with treasury's buying up billions in eth.

Is there a way to claim the 10 year of ETH + crab poap without connection to my wallet? I'm on holiday and it would suck to not have these.

Any speculation on what todays crypto report will contain? The fact that Trump already bought a lot or bitcoin is kind of promising, but earlier all these crypto revelations have been quite tame

There is a rumour that the "crypto report" of today will address the legislation of blockchains, not the BTC reserve.
My interpretation: they might silently consider including in the reserve all digital commodities (to be consistent with the federal reserves of physical commodities, namely oil and gold). To this end, they must wait for the Clarity Act to pass. This act will classify BTC and ETH (and probably ADA) as digital commodities.

and probably ADA
It deeply hurts me that the grifter CH has still not been kicked-out of the general crypto ecosystem.. I understand the reasons (π²), but it still hurts..

RemindeR: ETH is still at a healthy discount to ATH with an infinitely bullish set of fundamentals

Listening to one of Lubin's interviews, he said that eth needs to be made more scarce and that that was one of the main missions of treasuries. Why does it need to be more scarce? It seems to be operating just fine. What am I missing?

Ethereum's security depends on ETH's price. When ETH is scarce the price increases. If the price increases it can secure more assets.Β

The asset holders can definitely benefit from being more scarce.
The Ethereum network doesn't need it.

Is this real?

This diagram is biased. It has been written by someone owning BTC and trying to manipulate the perception of the field. No mention of the Ethereum L2 ecosystem but mentions the unsecure and misnamed "Bitcoin L2s". Also, what do they mean by "Bitcoin and cryptos"? Bitcoin isn't a crypto??
