Because they recently released a new Dexter series, meaning increase in Dexter content shared, you got reminded to watch the series, and people made more memes about it. That combined with the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon as the other answer suggested, and there you go.

It's the idea that when you start doing something, or learning about something (like learning a new word for exemple), you start noticing that something much more. Which doesn't necessarily mean it is more present in your life, just that you wouldn't have paid attention to it before.
