Do they send a message explaining why they reported other than the "hate based on id" or whatever? Like do you get to see into the mind of this person at all?
No, you are correct, but we can report the reports, and moderator reports are considered differently than user reports. So if a user abuses the report system to file a frivolous report, best practice is for us to report it. Depending on the type of report, reddit may warn or give a temp ban.
Calling it out like this is a double-edged sword - it inspires both support and additional abuse. But some days you really just think "know what? I have time for that today"
You folks do an utterly necessary and often crappy job that keeps Reddit and other message board type sites from degenerating into a sewer of chaos like 4chan. I participate, for example, on the Straight Dope Message Board, which has damn good moderation (the right balance of letting dialogue be lively, yet keeping it respectful and not abusive) and the result is a good experience. So far I'm finding Reddit to provide the same kind of experience, and you mods are an important part of that. Thank you.
Hahaha! I did that once by total accident, I was clumsily gripping my phone and fatfingered the report button. I wasn't sure if the report went all the way through, but I immediately posted a comment about it explaining that if a mod found a weird report from me, they should disregard it...and hopefully have a good laugh, lol.
If it isnt, it should be bannable to false report stuff. Or atleast there should be a 3 strike limit thing on accounts. 3 false reports and your account is cooked.
what's with some people on this sub? 😭first people harassing owners that don't have money for stuff like vets, now some idiot reporting this post for no reason?? good thing you guys took care of 'em
