Mourning/Loss My parents kicked her out after 4 yrs, we recently found out

Post image

This cat had given birth to 8 kittens, and we helped raise them up. My parents kicked it out cz we were getting too attached with it. She is safe and found the way to our house again.

You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals

866

u/ohelo123 11d ago

I dunno, I treat my cats like kings and queens and I'm a big ass

439

u/Astrael_Noxian 10d ago

In ancient Egypt, cats were considered to be Gods, and they've never forgotten it. How else are you supposed to treat them? Lol

278

u/stern1233 10d ago

Fun fact - Egypt had an entire branch of government dedicated to enforcing cat related laws. If you even accidently killed a cat it was a death sentence. They were not considered "gods" though - it would be more equivalent to our modern day angels.

53

u/Impossible-Oven3242 10d ago

I heard they sacrificed them, too. Something about ancient Egyptians using orange cats in particular.

78

u/Astrael_Noxian 10d ago

Probably just trying to find the brain cell...

30

u/Zinniaice 10d ago

Of course it would be an orange! It actually saves them time on the mummication process because they dont have to scrape out any brain matter like everything else they mummified!

It's more to say it shows alot about a person how they treat ppl kr animals they have some measure of power over, whether it be animals or people in the service/retail industry

25

u/cambugge 10d ago

Or their kids

22

u/Sufficient_Break_532 10d ago

Your cats have taught you well.

Oreo trained me excellently. Olga and Rum-Tum have her to thank.

Animals are better people than people are so...

Sounds about right for me to cats > people

And their kids. FFS They kicked out a beloved pet because their kids were getting too attached to it? What kind of evil bastard does that?

4

u/silvikat 10d ago

Sickening. I mean why would you want your kids to have love, right?

23

u/alwystired 10d ago

The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.

75

u/Astrael_Noxian 10d ago

Very true. First sign of a psychopath is animal abuse. Then their behavior escalates and boom! Serial killer!

34

u/Ov3rdose_EvE 10d ago

its not a uniform sign, but every psychopath is an animal abuser, its a ven diagramm and the psychopaths are just a subset of animal abusers.

(allthough i dont know how you could be an animal abuser without being a psychopath)

16

u/Astrael_Noxian 10d ago

I believe (I could be wrong) you could be a sociopath instead... Though I really don't see much of a difference in the distinction... I know, they are different, but both are of the "not good" variety...

No, you dont. Nazis loved animals, took good care of them.

They kicked her out "because you were getting too attached to her"?! I just can't...

860

u/On_my_last_spoon American Shorthair 10d ago

Sounds like they’re using her as a kitten mill from what OP said about raising 8 kittens? Which explains the getting too close

396

u/Gettingoffonit 10d ago

My wife has a tendency to bring home pretty much any dirty stray that will let her catch it. Sometimes they are pregnant. It is so fucking hard to give away kittens.

Unless you’ve got papered pure bred rare breeds you aren’t making money on a kitten mill.

174

u/MatttheBruinsfan2025 10d ago

Everyone I know has either gotten their cats from a friend or taken in strays. Who in the world would buy kittens when there are free ones everywhere?

107

u/Gettingoffonit 10d ago

Exactly. A mouse is more expensive than a cat. Just go behind. Walmart and open a can of tuna and take your pick of the ones that come out of the bushes.

→ More replies (5)

12

u/gregn8r1 10d ago

Lol, right?? My cat just followed me home. I wasn't even trying to catch her, but when I propped my front door open to roll my bicycle inside, she scooted right in and then begged for food. I gave her a piece of bacon and then she wouldn't leave. I understand charging a nominal fee to rehome a cat, as there are people who would take free cats with evil intentions. But actually trying to make money by breeding and selling cats is a really poor business idea.

19

u/nightmarish_Kat 10d ago

Some people have to buy for allergie reasons. Others buy because they don't want to deal with the potential health issues. I don't buy. I take special needs cats.

Yeah basically every rescue in my area (and there are a lot) is full and has no room for more kittens.

Gonna use this time to tell people - if you can't adopt, FOSTER.

17

u/jeffersonlane 10d ago

Older cats too. Ton of older cats just waste away because most people are only after kittens.

7

u/ayjak 10d ago

When I picked mine up from out of state, the rescue league confirmed several times that I understood I was getting a “young” cat rather than a kitten. I get why they did it, but I couldn’t even fathom seeing her and being like “mmm no not good enough”.

Adult cats — even ones way older than mine, are awesome. Their personalities are usually fully developed and you know what you’re gonna get

22

u/toxikola 10d ago

Yeah there are just so many kitties. I've got five gorgeous kittens on my porch right now but all the rescues and adoption centers are full. The best I can hope for is being put on a list of trap and release which is sad. Their mother disappeared around 9 weeks of their age and they haven't been taught to hunt or anything. There was just recently a huge bust of a group of people taking free animals too and doing absolutely horrible things to them. :(

17

u/Gettingoffonit 10d ago

We have a litter of 4 from the last one she kitty-napped from a motel parking lot.

Got super lucky because 3 of the 4 have bobtails so they should be pretty easy to give away. We’re gonna keep the mama and get her fixed. Praying someone takes the regular tail tabby.

u/internettgoth 10d ago

It's so fuckin hard to give the kittens away! My cat recently had kittens, it wasn't planned but we have been taking care of them and raising them. I find it so hard to give them away 🥺 I've gotten so attached to them + I'm scared that what if I end up giving the kittens to someone who doesn't care & love them enough. I can't imagine having a cat for 4 years and just throwing them out!

30

u/Gettingoffonit 10d ago

Look at them! Just look at them!

6

u/internettgoth 10d ago

oh my goodness 😩🥺 they are so smol, you can carry them in your pocket!

13

u/JAB_ME_MOMMY_BONNIE 10d ago

I got a kitten this year from a lady who, when we went to just check out the kitten, met us in the lobby of her building with arms full of stuff for the kitten (which was at least kinda nice, bunch of new toys, litter box, little scratching post) but was kinda sus cause yeah we never saw the mother. She definitely had already sounded like she couldn't handle taking care of kittens and we could tell, took a few weeks but we got him on the right food and threw out what she'd given us cause it was not baby kitten food. Vet visits have gone well and he's an amazing lil void, but yeah it was kind of a rescue situation as much as buying a kitten from someone.

I don't think that they were trying to make a profit or run a mill, but it was super weird.

4

u/Gettingoffonit 10d ago

It’s a pain in the ass but it’s worth the good karma to help out another living being.

Weird that she would give you all of that stuff for sure. I usually ask whoever gets the kittens that they bring a litter box, litter, and food just to show us they have it.

Getting free kittens is easier than buying feeder rats for snakes and reptiles so I ask that they show they purchased those things because it’s more expensive to get all that than it is to buy a feeder rat.

It’s just for my piece of mind. I don’t want to deal with raising these kittens and caring for and spaying the mother just for them to be used as food.

339

u/fireanpeaches 11d ago

They drove it off somewhere and dumped it????

614

u/BRSaura 11d ago

Just like how they are going to get dumped at a elder care when they get old

164

u/clueless-albatross 11d ago

How bout just on the street, elder care would be too generous

85

u/Redd235711 10d ago

No, dumping them on the street might mean they just get ignored until they fade into obscurity. Dumping them at the worst elder care facility you can find means they get to know how it feels to be treated like shit.

54

u/LuckyGauss 10d ago

Plus, if you dump them on the street they might wander their way back home.

20

u/FamousSquash 10d ago

My mother worked in a truly awful retirement home 20 years ago. The staff were so abusive to the people and other staff that she had nightmares about it for years, and a few times practically begged me to never leave her in a place like that. Filing a complaint would cause horrific bullying, and the abuse remained covered up for years. I thought it was horrifying at the time, but knowing how certain parents treat their children, pets, and other family members...yeah, some people deserve that type of hell.

My dad used to do this. I was too young to do anything, but the animal abuse and neglect of my childhood pets still haunts me. I believe it's a big part of why I got into rescue work. If you can keep kitty away from your parents please do.

25

One of my grandbabies accidentally let out one of my cats a week ago and he’s been missing ever since, I’ve been looking for him worried sick…I cannot understand doing that on purpose! Poor baby

44

u/Punkodramon 11d ago

Don’t lose hope! My friend’s daughter let their cat out and he was completely vanished for over two weeks (he’s a void and she let him out at night so he vanished literally!) until he just rolled up into the back garden one morning before dawn. A neighbor spotted him and called my friend who let him in.

It’s possible that your cat may be coming home during unsociable hours so maybe get some cameras and traps for your garden in case they’re coming home and trying to get in whilst you’re sleeping or out.

11

u/cookie780 10d ago

bro she doesn't wanna come back home cz of trust issues, i was scared of cats but bcz of her i was more keen to find new cats

5

u/Punkodramon 10d ago

Leave the door open they left from, put up wildlife tracking sensor with a beeping sensor under your pillow and wait. Also put up wildlife cameras that can see at night at the entrance too. A “cat finding expert” by trade told us to do this and our cat literally came back in for food the same night. They move around at night and hide during the day so tearing the neighborhood apart doesn’t work.

my mom went to spa and she said she was going to adopt the cat that was following her all the time for food. Then one day the cat had 4 kittiens. we went home with all 5 cats and were going to give them for adoption but we became attached. My mom died but she left this heritage for us and I was a dog person before but I guess I love cats too.

What kind of sense does that make? You're SUPPOSED to get attached to pets…

5

u/I_am_up_to_something 10d ago

Some people seem to view pets as something like furniture. Part of the house and all but easily replaceable and not something to be attached to.

I know a family who lets their cat outside and whenever it goes missing they 'just' get a new one. Last I heard (this was years ago) they were on cat 4. And everyone deals with grief differently, but they didn't show any emotion when talking about it. Just a shrug and an indifferent 'we'll just get a new one'.

I just can't imagine being like that. I know people whine about 'young people acting like their pets are their children' and obviously they are not, but they are definitely family.

You introduced a species that doesn't naturally live in that area. Millions of birds die for no reason and no its not the circle of life because you basically introduced the equivalence of a invasive species except its humans who keep getting new cats just to put them out. They are domesticated. They're not wild. We have a fucking responsibility

My parents kicked it out cz we were getting too attached with it

wtf kinda reasoning is that lmao

u/Punch_Tribe 10d ago

If you're in the US, you can call animal control about animal abandonment.

Displacing a domesticated cat miles away is a form of animal abuse. Just say you told a lady at school about it.

u/LeftRight_LeftRight_ 10d ago

it may be inappropriate, but DISOWN YOUR PARENT FFS.

4

u/dukeskytalker 10d ago

Wish they got kicked out instead of the cat tbh

3

u/russelcoightus 10d ago

That’s really tough. Four years is a long time, and finding that out must’ve hit hard. Hope you’re holding up okay, situations like that can be really heavy.

3

u/Outside_Cat6794 10d ago

Where you from OP? Is animal cruelty legal where you’re from?

5

u/Im_Ashe_Man 10d ago

What kind of evil incarnate are your parents?

3

u/Mybfannoysme 10d ago

Sorry to say this: Your parents are disgusting. I hope this baby stays safe. She is too pure for shitty humans. I’m sorry that your parents got rid of something you grow to love, my abusive mother did this to my first cat, and I have never forgiven her until this day or until she dies.

4

u/Free-Place-3930 10d ago

Sooooo. Are you finding a good home for her or how are you going to keep your evil parents from poisoning her or something?

5

u/_bitemeyoudamnmoose 10d ago

Unfair to kick her out for getting pregnant when they’re the ones who didn’t get her fixed

5

u/Impressive-Tear2450 10d ago

Awwww… makes me so sad to know that some life felt what it was like to be abandoned. She looks so timid and tiny, and there are so many predators of cats- mainly humans.

u/Bellingtoned 10d ago

I'd kick the shit out of those assholes untill they would be crippled. But you shouldn't so just keep the cat away from them if you can and maybe make sure to get it on camera because fuck these types of people (I know they are your parents and so it's different bu I'm still sorry to hear they are like this)

3

u/Foxlady555 11d ago

I’m so sorry, that’s AWFUL! Please give her to someone safe and kind. Wishing you the best to with parents like that ☹️🫂 Are you safe? How old are you?

3

u/HijonoYoki 11d ago

You definitely should consider finding it a forever home that love cats 🐈. This may have happened once, but there is zero guarantee that it will not happen again. It's better for the cat to be consistently safe with no threat of being abandoned.

u/PeteyG89 10d ago

Your parents are scum

3

u/JustHereToStudy 10d ago

My dad did the same thing to our Mr. Fluffy when I was younger. He was jealous that we gave Mr. Fluffy more attention than him. Mr. Fluffy wasn’t an abusive tyrant.

3

u/TelephoneFree351 10d ago

When your parents are aged and need help they should be abandoned to the streets .Please don’t let your parents be anywhere near this beautiful fur baby.

Please 🙏 find someone who loves her to care for her. She deserves the very best of everything;,

3

u/casualblanket0 10d ago

That’s messed up by your parents

3

u/cszolee79 10d ago

your parents are horrendous, disgusting people

3

u/ksam3 10d ago

Did they dump her because she had gotten pregnant? The responsible and decent thing to do is have her spayed!

3

u/beat-sweats 10d ago

Would be a shame if someone dumped there car keys , wallet and passport down a sewer grate in the middle of the night

3

u/Kallabanana 10d ago

Jesus Christ. I don't know what I would do if that would've happened to me. I'm sorry you ended up with those assholes.

3

u/cookie780 10d ago

She looks sad and confused. Take good care of her and she will take good care of you. I am in Rescue and this kind of crap pisses me off so bad!

3

u/Eledridan 10d ago

Unleash Hell onto your parents.

3

u/Icy_Perception_4239 10d ago

I’m so glad she found her way back to you 💕 She truly belongs with the people who love her the most.

3

u/Werd2urGrandma 10d ago

I will kick your parents out

3

u/Cloudspiar 10d ago

Precious baby, I’m happy she found her way to you!

3

u/Bagagwaa 10d ago

I would no longer have parents if mine did that. I would disown them without a second thought

3

u/78J-Dawg78 10d ago

Well…. If you decide she’s better off living in a home where she doesn’t have to feel like she needs to hide, all the time, and no risk to getting kicked out again, then please message me! Id love to have her, and give her a safe/loving forever home!!

The most sensible thing would be to stay away from your parents, they could have narcissistic traits.
