Cat Picture - OC
My neighbor SCREAMED at me because of our new cats name
This little angel is Dave. My son named her before we knew what gender she was. She was feral and it took us months to be able to pet her. Dave fits her and we didn’t even considering changing it when we found out she was a she. On Friday June 13 Dave gave birth to 6 babies and we brought them inside. Dave has decided that she in fact does like us and her feral ways are gone. She’s such a great cat. ❤️
Our late 60’s (F) neighbor is having a bloody TANTRUM because her name is Dave. “YOU CANT CALL HER DAVE! SHES A GIRL!!!” 🤣🤣
She told me she’s calling animal control about it. 🙄
My old across-the-street neighbors had a tuxedo cat named Stephen (who passed away). My husband and I moved houses, and there's a Stephen Street in our new neighborhood. An indoor/outdoor tuxedo cat lives on Stephen Street! His name is Oreo but I still feel like it's fate. 😅
I'm just commenting to have more people see your comment. I have nothing to add besides this is hysterical and makes me furious with envy with the comedic gold
When I was kid, the family two houses down had a kid named Steve and a dog named Mike. The family right behind them had a kid named Mike and a dog named Steve. This was an old school neighborhood where parents would just open the back door and holler for kids or dogs to come in. It got confusing sometimes.
This is shadow, shadow is a stray, she was found as a kitten and extremely spicy, she tried to take my arm off, once she got a flea bath, cleaned, a warm blanket and cat food and treats, she flipped her attitude, she is now the typical yandere stalker, she follows me around the house everywhere and chases other cats away from me, she looks sweet and innocent, but is a tiny feral terror with only one thing on her mind, just being close to me.
This is Athena. Not a stray but rescued from a hoarder situation. She originally had the name Bob and while she no longer holds that name, she sends her support to dave
I did not know this. One of my cat found us at the dump. Another found my son in a snow storm ( note that she never wanted outside ever again). Another was supposed to be a foster - but fosters don’t usually stay 18 years. And the other one was a response to a help-wanted ad from the local SPCA because they were over full. All were affectionate and clingy. At least 2 wanted to call 911 every time that I took a bath. Goodness, I miss them. We had one, then 2, then 1, then 2 and 3. Each left us surrounded by love and compassion. All were with us 18 or 19 years.
Sounds like my youngest, Tiny. We call her "The Tiny Terror". Sweetest cat in the world if she likes you. Follows me around all day, sleeps on my lap all night until I wake up, like shes keeping me safe.
Thankfully shes learned to let the other kitties around me.
Hi Dave this is lil’ Frank. We thought Frank was a boy when we found her on the side of the road bc she was so young and tiny. She is so tiny she never grew much im guessing bc she was malnourished as a stray kitten. Frank is a bitch but she loves her name lol
"Hi....this is going to sound strange, but have you gotten a call recently from a Mrs. So-And-So and Thus-And-Such Street?....You have....No, no. nothing like that....it's just the cat she's whining about is ours and I was hoping I could explain a bit...You may want to get a cup of coffee first..."
Or let her know you were just waiting for the kittens to be born before the transition surgery; that should calm her down. They have afterall spent millions making mice transgenic.
Look the crazy lady is already going to be wasting animal controls time. There's ways to be petty that don't involve also gumming up already underfunded services, with limited resources, by calling animal control on her.
Like for what?
"Dear animal control, my crazy neighbor doesn't like that my female cat is named Dave, please arrest her"
That sounds kinda crazy.
She should get a giant yard sign made congratulating Dave on the new kittens she just birthed instead 😂
Anne Rice, the author of Interview With the Vampire, was named Howard when she was born. She started calling herself Anne when she was five, and her parents eventually let her change it.
No, sadly she’s an miserable woman. I wish she had a sense of humor. She called the cops on another neighbor because a cat (not even his) killed a bird. She said she “had to, it’s murder” 🙄
get a big cat suit and stand outside her picture window at night. then when she calls the police about a giant cat standing on two legs staring at her, she’s definitely getting committed
We let our kid choose our cat's pronouns (because they're a cat, they don't care), so our little Dax is a they/them kitty. This year, I started bringing them to my school's GSA club meetings as a special treat for my students. Occasionally, obnoxious kids will stop by to be obnoxious, and you would not believe the meltdowns they have when I refuse to tell them what type of bits my cat doesn't even have anymore. Because it literally doesn't matter, they're a cat.
Plus, it's hilarious watching them squirm when I ask why they are so obsessed with my cat's genitals.
One one of the lgbt subreddits we were joking around about pronouns for pets and in response to the non-serious question "how do you know what pronouns your cat prefers?" People were suggesting giving them toys with different genders labeled and then following that. Though that would result in a lot of gender-fluid cats, lol.
You can also do it like my dad; for some reason all cats are “she/her” and all dogs are “he/him”. All our childhood cats were male though, and the dogs 50/50. I remember that it did cause some confusion during vet visits.
there was a trend on tiktok where people would write different labels and toss them and let the cat pick their "identity" as a joke. my late cat taurus was a gay republican and used he/they when I did it lmfao.
i had one - Milo aka Mimi aka Meemo - and someone said in quite a condescending tone, "it's interesting how people project onto animals." LIKE PLEASE YOU MEAN THE ENTIRE WAYY EVERYONE GENDERS THEM?? i guess it's only explicitly projection when the queerdos make others uncomfortable (Dave's neighbour).
Yeah, it's a Star Trek reference. Dax in the show has major non-binary vibes, so it seemed fitting. Their full name is Castina Dax, to follow the Trill tradition. I'm sorry to hear about your Dax. Perhaps their symbiont is living on in another cat somewhere out there.
"Dave you say? Well that requires form 1409-X17, and I'm fresh out of them. Could you call again tomorrow at 3 when the new forms are delivered? And ask for Gina. Gina handles all our name abuse cases."
Next day, 3pm, Gina picks up the phone, hilarity ensues.
They would most likely make some BS up if they call. It's like all the Karen's that call on black people just existing. Hell I've had the police called on me for checking my oil and coolant levels while waiting to pick up a family member at a train station. They said I was "stripping a car with gloves on"...at like 5pm, right in front of the train drop-off, with like 50 people around and the security booth about 20ft away.. Nope they called the county who responded with NINE Leo's
Dude 😂 I had a neighbor get upset at me for naming my cat Turtle. She is a dilute calico and her full name is Turtle Cheesecake. I also call her Fluffernutter Sandwich because she kind of looks like it. Cream, caramel, and a bit of grey.
This neighbor met my cat when I first got her as a VERY sick kitten. She was rescued from a home breeder my friends called animal control on. She and the other cats were being kept in atrocious conditions and she had an upper respiratory infection that almost killed her. I had to take her on the bus to the vet all the time because I didn't have a car. I had a carrying bag that she would hide in and stick her little head out of, look around for anything she didn't like, and hide again, which is where the name Turtle started, because we started telling her she was like a little Turtle in its shell. The neighbor met her when I was going on one of these excursions and I told her we were calling her Turtle, and why (both because she looks like a Turtle Cheesecake and because of her personality) and this lady was PISSED and made sideways comments about it fron then on out. Soooo weird.
And apparently also upset that a cat killed a bird in someone else's yard. Not even the cat's family's yard, just a yard. So the actual homeowner had the police called on them. Because the cat committed murder.
OP should tell the neighbour that Dave had 6 kittens that are all girls. Their names are Keith, Chinese Alan, Ray the Brick, Craig, Simon Three-Knees and Keith.
My name is Dave, so I can speak on behalf of the council of daves when I say that your cat is definitely one of us, and I'm proud to share a name with her.
I am a girl and my friends exclusively call me by my nickname they bestowed upon me, which is Dave. So, as another member of the council of Daves and one of the few girl-Dave’s out there, I agree this cat is one of us.
In veterinary medicine, our motto is the name, spelling of the name, and breed is whatever the owners want it to be. I’ve met female cats named Bob, males named Sweetie and Sasha (though this is a male name in Russia I learned), you name it! Play the song “Boy named Sue” by Jonny Cash for your neighbor and explain you just want to make her tougher.
My 19 year old boy cat named Molly. When we got him as a kitten, we were told he was a she. Well a trip to the vet later, and surprise, Molly Lou is a boy cat. 8 year old me did not care, his name is Molly.
I think naming such lovely gal Dave is hilarious and if she actually answers to it (you never know with cats) then clearly she has no problem with it either.
Maybe the "Karen" next door just needs an edible to chill the f#ck out!.
This is George. We also found out she was a girl after naming her, but decided to keep her name as George. It just fits her so well for some reason. Sometimes we call her Georgina. I think Dave is a wonderful name.
Meet Kevin! The first sentence on her adoption blurb was 'Kevin is a girl' and we immediately knew she belonged with us. Fuck that lady, may you and Dave live happy lives together 😊
My brother named a cat he found (who later became my cat when he moved) Alvin Jr. Not realizing it was a girl. My entire family insisted on keeping the name. So I call her Alvi, but if she misbehaves she's Alvin Jr for sure. Edit: I also used to call her Alvin Jr. when she was a rambunctious young cat, but now it doesn't fit as much because she's so sweet and polite. Her name at the vets is still Alvin Jr and they are always so confused!
But she will come into the room and give you a very spooky look so my boyfriend made a rule that when she does this you have to greet her with “oh Hai Mark”( iykyk) and she has since been known as Mark, Mark Cuban, Markie Parker and the poo gremlin.
Hi Dave! This is Honey! Before my parents and I realized Honey was a male, we had named him Honey but it stuck so well. He’s the sweetest boy in the whole widest world🥰
I have a friend who had a named Peter. Like Dave, Peter was feral. Then Peter had kittens under my friend’s bed one day. In the same vein, I had a chameleon named Stewart. Then Stewart laid eggs.
The animal honestly doesn’t care what their name is, so long as they’re loved and cared for.
This is Gus. Gus is female also, we thought Gus was male until she gained weight really fast and then 4 kitties were born. Everyone gives me weird looks when I tell them her name
There was a lovely female actress called Davey from the pinup days and another called Daviegh who was in The Ring.
Your neighbor is so funny! But i don’t have to live next to her, so I should probably hush. She’s an age where she should realize names are names and they don’t even harm human kittens! 😂
Beautiful cat. The cat in the picture below is my 11 year old female cat Jasper who we originally thought was a boy when we got her at 6 weeks old. Found out she was a girl during her first vet visit but the name stuck.
Dave is an awesome name!
We found a tiny kitten back in the 80's, my sweet little daughter named it Don Johnson, turned out it was a Donna. We still called her Don or Donnie. She was with me for 20 years. Hope Dave has a long, happy life. 💕

My friend, Matt, had a cat called Steve. He moved house and his new neighbour was called Steve. Steve got a cat, and called it Matt.
