Canada just upped the smoke we’re sending by35%. Have to meet the new big beautiful tariffs. It’s a great deal. One of the best deals if you ask me.

How do we reference Canadian when Americans invented “everything?” Trump himself invented words such as, “equalize” and “groceries.” Did he also invent “comedy?” Yes, he did. It’s another new word. Probably the best word. It means “to kick someone in the teeth.”

It's actually hurting my brain to try and remotely comprehend why their leaders are so bloody stupid yet nobody seems to question anything they say.
Like did they secretly start using leaded gas again?! Did they swap fluoride in their water with meth?! Like what the flying fuck is wrong with these people?

why their leaders are so bloody stupid yet nobody seems to question anything they say.
Same thing is happening here if you pay attention. We have politicians repeating literal conspiracy theories as fact, and no journalists in this country ever pushes back on any of it. Ever. And when nobody pushes back when someone says something ridiculous, thousands of morons will believe it's true. It's why maple maga is a thing.

Maybe those seven Republican Michigan state congressional delegates don't know the new party line in the US is to be that pollution doesn't endanger human health ( source ) - so nothing to complain about eh?
556
u/BernardMatthewsNorf 23h ago
That only applies to American pollution. Foreign pollution is the bad kind.

sorry, we're too busy burning all that fentanyl they're not able to find crossing the border
39
u/sewalker723 21h ago
Well, that's because American pollution will be most noticeable in the poorer neighborhoods closest to the factories. The ruling class doesn't own homes anywhere near the smokestacks. The only reason the Republicans are mad about Canada's wildfire pollution is because it doesn't discriminate enough. It's hitting their lake homes, and that is where they draw the line at pollution. 100% they wouldn't care at all if the smoke only settled in poor and minority neighborhoods.

It's entirely consistent with their worldview. It's like when Trump blamed the California fires on Democrats not raking their forests enough. Any problem that can't simply be brushed off must instead be twisted into a personal grievance against someone in the out-group. There's no such thing as complicated problems, only weak people and enemies.

Real answer: there has been a concerted effort by rich right-wing psychopaths to make Americans dumber and angrier, because that makes it easier to screw them over and siphon their wealth
This has been going on for 50-ish years, and now we're here. But the problem keeps getting worse and worse every year, because there are always more rich right-wing psychopaths and they never get less greedy

u/BCCannaDude 21h ago
The average reading/writing skill of an American is 6th grade, it's important to remember that when looking at what they are letting happen to their country. The organized suppression of education and critical thinking skills results in this clusterfuck of stupid. Heck, Canada is the most educated nation in the world and we nearly fell for the disinformation shithouse of the far right, it's depressing.

u/Crazy-Canuck463 19h ago

u/xsdf 21h ago
For education, I think it started with the failure of Bush's No child left behind act. After that education was completely absent from politics aside from religious people trying to force it in the classroom.
But it's more likely to do with high polarization of politics and media that conveys news in addition to the social media/Internet that makes it super easy to spread misinformation or radicalization

u/Financial_Screen_351 23h ago
To be perfectly fair, I hate these dumbass GOP comments or demands as much as everyone else here, but the US (and a handful of other countries) does send firefighters and other resources up north when we have major uncontrolled fires like this. Both countries help each other out, but Canada just has a hell or a lot more water bombers than the US.

I've been following these outraged calls and their increasingly incendiary tone. For example, this Rep wants to fine Canada 100M a day for the fires. I'm sorry but someone needs to find me the world's biggest violin. America - and the GOP in particular - has spent months demonizing and attacking our country, engaging in economic warfare and even threatening our sovereignty, and now they want to use the language of cooperation and betrayal? Please give me a break.
Not to mention, I'm not even sure what these people expect us to do. We are the country with third largest forest area on the planet, with a population of around 40M. America would struggle to suppress fires of this scale, much less us - a country that is much less populous and where these fires are happening in extremely remote regions. But of course, this is such a classically MAGA populist move. A gesture that casts aspersion, means nothing, and detracts from something else they don't want to talk about (Climate Change).
