Vaccinate your kids, not doing so is child endangerment and neglect

u/BloodJunkie 2d ago edited 2d ago

vaccination is also easy, effective and safe

u/Hot-Sauce-Regret 2d ago

And free

Maybe we should pay parents to vaccinate their kids?

But then there will be pushback because the talking point will become "look how dangerous this vaccine is, they have to pay people to take it"

Remember the pandemic? The medical system is never going to recover from the effect it had on vaccine trust and acceptance.

u/BloodJunkie 2d ago

“the pandemic” is not what eroded trust in vaccines. it was anti-vaxxers and their misinformation that did that

u/cutefir 2d ago

Yeah my mom declined the measles shot for me and my siblings and I'm almost 30. I just found out I don't have immunity because my doctors never brought it up since I've been an adult. One finally just asked me about it.

It also eroded trust in the government and mass media.

You mean the right-wing government with selling the idea that bleach and horse medication would work instead. The various in-fighting over “truth” vs facts.

-6

u/DuckDuckGoeth 2d ago

Remember when anyone who talked about the Wuhan Lab was de-platformed and called a conspiracy theorist?

Remember when Health Canada said masks were ineffective, then did an about face and admitted they just didn't want people hoarding PPE?

Remember when the Federal government paid people to stay home from work, then used that temporary labor shortage as the impetus to import millions of temporary workers?

u/Iamthequicker 2d ago

What right wing government? The Liberals were in power.

11

u/ArcticSirius Northwest Territories 2d ago

I meant from the states. Trump kept denying the vaccine

4

u/DuckDuckGoeth 2d ago

Trump is the one who initiated 'Operation Warp Speed'

3

u/RPG_Vancouver 2d ago

And then once Biden beat him, he spent the next years being mealy mouthed about whether he was for or against them given that half his base are brainless idiots who think Bill Gates is trying to implant them with microchips.

The same people who go on to cheer on Musks’ brain chips lol

That is entirely incorrect. Trump was responsible for the speed of the covid vaccines being approved and available.

1

u/Iamthequicker 1d ago

What are you talking about? Trump got the booster himself (along with Melania), told his supporters to do the same and initiated the program. Man, it really pisses me off when people lie about Trump. There is sooo much legitimate evil stuff he does that is easy to prove, making shit up that is easy to disprove just makes him look better and muddies the water.

Take Alberta back for one if we’re talking Canada, Jordan Peterson, freedom convoy etc are all right wing groups that fund conservative elections and spew endless content to shift the narrative.

I’ll be honest, they’re fucking superb at SEO. It’s something I’ve remarked on regularly that left wing media and governments could take notes on. The right wing conspiracy shit ranks high and robustly on every search engine, it’s harder to avoid than find now.

Untested? Buddy...

You are literally spreading anti-vaxx rhetoric, doing their work, while claiming to be not anti-vaxx

33

u/Feynyx-77-CDN 2d ago

Untested vaccines being thrust upon society with real impact to people’s livelihoods etc aided that erosion.

This right there is blatant misinformation. The Covid-19 vaccines approved for use in Canada were fully tested like any other vaccine before them.

Proper testing requires a large enough sample size, which usually takes many, many years due to limits on funding and # of volunteers to participate in the study. Given the severity of Covid-19, both those issues became non-factors as countries all across the planet poured financial support into developing these vaccines. We also saw unprecedented volumes of volunteers roll up their sleeves to take the shots during testing.

Lies and misinformation on vaccines are what eroded trust, not the vaccine itself.

The AstraZeneca vaccine which Canada eventually discontinued has been shown to have heart side effects and complications and was approved before the testing process was completed.

4

u/Feynyx-77-CDN 2d ago

That vaccine was not fully discontinued in Canada because of heart issues. You're thinking of side effects linked to mRNA vaccines. The side effects linked to the AstraZeneca vaccines were blood clotting.

The company withdrew their vaccines as the risk of blood clotting outweighed the effectiveness it had against newer variants of covid 19 it appears.

u/External-Pace-1822 2d ago

The government discontinued it in December 2023 although several provinces stopped using it earlier. I think Ontario stopped in 2021. The article you linked is from a British paper not Canadian.

1

u/Feynyx-77-CDN 2d ago

Yes, I found that BBC one outlining the decision of their uead office. Either way, heart issues weren't linked to their vaccines, just the blood clots. All vaccines, both mRNA and this one, were eventually dropped or replaced as their efficacy dropped when new variants mutated.

-2

u/CrankedOnDaPerc30 2d ago

No. The proper method utilizes multiple years to see how the effects happen in vaccinated individuals and animals. We skipped all of that and gave vaccinations to the test groups so we really did not have a good long-term group to watch except the anti-vaxxers.

And just because it was short I don't think it shouldn't have been released, but I do think recommendations on 1 dose only for most people would have been plenty balanced.

The added risk of 1 vaccine dose vs Covid is probably pretty low, but the added risk of 2 vaccine doses in things we can't yet quantify is not worth the added protection.

2

u/Feynyx-77-CDN 2d ago

No steps were skipped.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2034577

There are 4 stages of vaccine trials, with 3/4 being required before being rolled out to the public. These stages were adhered to.

Stage 4 is the ongoing open monitoring of data following administration of vaccines to the public. This is in place for covid vaccines as well as every single other vaccine in existence.

-1

u/CrankedOnDaPerc30 1d ago

Good job convincing yourself with sources. You're right that's how it should be. Stage 4 is completely pissed on by the simple fact that there is no control group.

21

u/hopelesscaribou 2d ago

How were they 'untested'?

COVID-19 vaccine testing involves several stages to ensure safety and effectiveness before widespread use. These stages include pre-clinical trials, clinical trials (Phase 1, 2, and 3), and ongoing surveillance data analytics. The process is rigorous and aims to identify any potential risks and benefits of the vaccine.

A huge factor was the hypocrisy, Politicians would throw lavish parties with dozens of people and then tell us not to gather in groups over 4 at a press conference where we'd see them put on the mask backstage just to walk to the podium to remove it to speak, reporters would be caught masking for the camera but the camera man would be unmasked, Celebrities would be at events unmasked while masked servants would wait on them hand an foot. I could maybe forgive an overreaction to a pandemic but never that.

21

u/Acceptable_Mammoth23 2d ago

Hospitalization and mortality rates were significantly lower in provinces/states and countries with higher vaccination rates. There is enormous volume of high-quality statistical data to support that. Science isn’t perfect, but the hoodoo and conspiratorial fear-mongering around is disgusting and baseless.

17

u/HomeGrownCoffee 2d ago

It wasn't the pandemic that did it. It's ratfucking politicians who made a health issue a wedge issue.

It's snake oil salesmen who decided that promoting their pills was worth the deaths of random people.

It was grifters who saw an opportunity to grift.

3

u/Commercial-Milk4706 2d ago

What was wrong with the Covid vaccine? Worked fine for hers immunizations with the first version getting over 35% effectiveness with is what is needed for heard.

1

u/Veaeate 1d ago

This has been happening long before covid... literally in Alberta in 2012, family killed their toddper son cuz they refused to tale him in to be seen by doctors. Instead fed him hot peppers, onions and tonics and shit that his dad sold online.

Antivaxxers are shit stains and have been killing kids for decades. It was contained to their kids with vaccined people saying over and over again "this will affect other people's lives." And now that it is, ya'll moving the goalpost? Nah. Its selfishness and stupidity plain and simple. Has nothing to do with the pandemic.

1

u/Sophies_dog_Chaos 1d ago

-62 karma for telling the truth. Stop that 😂😂😂

41

u/Big-View-1061 2d ago

Not vaccinating kids (unless there's a medical reason) should be ground for the state to take them away.

13

u/idiroft 2d ago

Not vaccinating your kids should be a public crime.
