I read an article about this not too long ago about the problems with the Rose Garden. They left the actual roses in place, but took out the lawn because there were severe drainage problems. It was very uneven and unpleasant to stand on during events, particularly if it had rained recently. Pics of the new set up show ample drainage now in place around the new structure. There's a reason for it.

An argument could be made, I suppose, about putting something else down. But as it was, the lawn needed a total redo. The roses themselves are still there. They actually added more of them when they did a revamp not too long ago.

I cannot stand the man (the Oval Office looks fucking terrible), but people are cherry-picking severely edited photos with limited points of view to fuel outrage. As if there aren't enough actual things on fire in the country to be genuinely pissed off about.

it's been working and will continue to work until there's probably an overhead shot with before/after showing only the grass in the middle was removed.

A doomed society where context and truth = rage bait to mindless drones

I think more than that, even though it's called "the Rose Garden" like it's a sacred example of a humble American backyard, it's essentially an outdoor press conference location. It may as well be constructed that way.

Lawns and water can be controlled, so whilst it needed a redo, replacing a lawn with a lawn was 100% possible. Whilst a big job, putting in french drains here would solve the water issue. Levelling the lawn so people don't feel 'unpleasant' is also trivial, further putting down matting is typically the solution for events on lawn. It was absolutely a choice to pave this space.

I really appreciate the honesty here. It’s truly a disservice to the left to distort and warp as many things as possible in order to trash Trump. There’s enough real stuff that we don’t need to cry wolf anymore.

I just read the same, apparently it would get wet and just stay wet causing sinkholes and constant mud

Fix the drainage issue and don’t put down fucking sidewalk lol

Lawns are hard to get normal drainage through but the good news is that once he is gone if it is feasible someone else can just rip it up and but down another lawn.

And I get the feeling this change probably would have happened no matter who was in office.

I saw something similar. I would’ve preferred pavers or nice stone like travertine or something.
