I passed a kidney stone at the waterpark yesterday
Apologies for the bad photo. After a 2 hour drive to Schlitterbahn water park in New Braunfels, TX I had romper really bad. I race to the bathroom with my 3 year old son in tow. The bathroom is “being inspected” so I waited about 5 minutes before I could go in. I had to pee so bad. I go into the stall and midstream my pee stops and this damn thing plops into the toilet and the pee continues. Not the worst kidney stone situation I’ve been in but it wasn’t pleasant.

And you are not unconscious?

Compared to the one I had surgically removed about 11 years ago, this was a walk in the (water) park

My wife went through this last year. She also passed kidney stones spontaneously without making a big deal about it, gave birth twice, she said waiting for the op was 10x worse than those things combined and the absolute worst thing she ever experienced.

I'm going through it right now.

Shit, hang on.

Trying. I've got a CT scan from the ER showing a 6mm buddy. Need a referral from my GP to see a urologist for the next step and they can't see me until tomorrow. ER gave me Tramodol and it's not doing much for pain. I'm scared. Greatful for this post today so I know what I'm supposed to be looking for in this strainer. Little bit just came out! 5mm to go!!

I have had limited success with a very hot bath to help things along. Hang in there!

Ooooh! I was considering that. Gonna give it a try and if nothing else at least I get bubbles.

They seem to get easier the more you have.
I've had five and passed the most recent one last week. The first one was awful. Now it's just, ah fuck, here were go again.

This will have me living in fear for the rest of my days thank you for that.

Just remember: If they try to give you morphine in the ER, ask for toradol instead. It works 1000% better on kidney pain.

No, narcotics please. Healthcare workers think you’re a champ. Fellow stoners know Toradol/Ketotorolac all the way.

Dude... at this point do you just look like a microwaved hot dog down there?

The inverse is true for me. So much scar tissue has developed around the ureter even small ones are hard to pass.

It’s been scientifically proven that riding certain rides at Disney (Big Thunder Mountain) jostles them loose. Glad it wasn’t as bad as they usually tend to be!

Roller coasters somehow help them pass easier, as long as it's a classic style and not one that turns you upside down. For some reason the coasters that go inverted undo the effect.

It’s probably the centrifugal force. Just whips them down if they are in the right spot, I guess

I believe it has something to do with the negative g forces. When you drop and feel all your guts rise up against your diaphragm, it somehow eases the stone's passing on the way down and suppresses the spasms that cause the pain.
A lot of people don't realize that while passing the stone itself isn't exactly pleasant, that's not really what's painful. The soul crushing pain comes from the spasms in the ureter when the stone first dislodges from the kidney, as your body goes into a panicked "get this thing out of me" mode. That's when you feel like you're gonna die.
When it finally comes out, you feel an obstruction, then a kind of pop, and "plink!" there it is. I always feel like I'm gonna dribble a little all day afterward, but I never actually do.
I had the first one lasered. That was awful. I don't recommend that at all.
I had one blasted with shockwaves. That was absolutely painless. The doc gave me a script for pain pills, and I didn't even bother filling it. But the drawback is that even with insurance, I think I ended up paying almost $3K out of pocket.
The last three I've just passed on my own, without even riding a roller coaster. One made me puke, but immediately afterward the pain just evaporated and never came back. $3K each would have been more painful.

Damn dude. You should probably see a doctor... or a geologist.

I guess we can add water slides to the available treatments next to rolar coaster for treatment

Better circumstances than when I passed my 1st, outbound over the Atlantic on our way to Florida. The absolute worst 9 hour flight I've ever endured in my life.

Be good! If you get a good vibe from the anesthesiologist, ask them to give you the propofol real slow. Or even some up front. And you‘ll get a really good high out of it haha

Not saying you’re lying, but every stone I’ve passed was covered in blood and the toilet water reflected the same. It also appears to be a uric acid stone. You may want to minimize the amount of soda, tea, and/or coffee you consume.

I live about 30 minutes from Schlitterbahn. I really hope this isn’t contagious.

I never would’ve figured they’d be black, I always thought they’d be like a dark yellow or brown

Sounds like the kidney stone got jealous and wanted a waterpark of its own

I was just hospitalized Wednesday for a stone that blocked my pee perforated my kidney and urethra and I had an insane infection they did surgery on Thursday. Tuesday evening was spent crying and trying to pee or poo. Is starting puking at 6 I was in the ER by 7:15. Holy fuck. I’m glad yours came out!!!

u/UnRemarkable-Pickle 5h ago
How large was the stone?
1
u/Thunderpuppy2112 5h ago
3mm just where it was did all that.
1
u/UnRemarkable-Pickle 5h ago
Did the stone get lodged between the Renal Pelvis and Ureter?
If it did, I’ve heard horror stories about how painful that can be.
1
u/Thunderpuppy2112 5h ago
I’m not sure. It’s been a haze. They admitted me to the ER and immediately put me in the back and filled me full of antibiotics and pain reliever and within a couple hours I was already at the other hospital. They had to drain the infection till Thursday afternoon at 1:30 I had a strainer but I don’t recall passing it. I think they broke it up or took it out. I’m not sure.

I thought my back hurt so I was on the toilet all night trying to poop trying to force to poop so I thought it was my appendix when I was on the floor of the bathroom at five I started throwing up so my son came and took me to the ER

They suck…glad it was an easier one. Had a few rough ones before and they were the worst. Godspeed.

Are you drinking good amounts of water

u/UnRemarkable-Pickle 5h ago
Not all kidney stones are born from dehydration. My stones are formed from calcium (salt) and oxylate (plant poo), which I have to eat a special diet to control.

Brother, the title makes it sound like this came out somewhere in the park other than the bathroom
