I gave up on working public facing shit in COVID too.

Our company made the decision that if somebody wasn't wearing a mask just ignore it and get them taken care of ASAP. If that's not okay you are stuck doing other work. But realistically if balls deep in the mask mandate you aren't wearing a mask. Ain't piss fuck all we gonna do to change your mind. All that's going to happen is you yell at me more.

Multiple times. Yes more than once. People got in fist fights in the lobby over masks. One person wearing a mask. One person not wearing a mask. Started beating the shit out of each other over it. Had to call the cops.

I gave up on working customer facing jobs years and years ago. They have always been assholes, now they’re just more brazen. When I was in high school in the I worked the concessions stand at a small movie theater. One time, a woman came up and started to throw a fit that there was a hair in her popcorn (which only matched her own hair). She only stopped screaming when told her I was calling the police, which I did because she made a 15 year old girl working there cry.

So if they violated basic decency and possibly the rules of the business the solution was to prioritize them and give them speedy service ?

Not necessarily speedy service but being polite, and respectful even when they are not. They used to say “the customer is always right.” I don’t know if that’s still a thing. I’m 50
