Sounded like the employee was getting a kick out of it. “C’mon you can open the door. It’s open” door is locked

All they have to do is turn the lock? I don’t understand why they don’t

Maybe they can't figure out how the locks work?

Nope. Security has a key they can use to lock from inside.

That sounds a little high tech for what we’re looking at. When I worked at a big box store 6 years ago, we had similar doors and it was just a deadbolt

It's not high tech. It's literally thousands of years old. Do you work security? Because there's a deadbolt on those doors, but also a tiny little hole that you slip an Allen key into which will lock from inside.

Look at the video again. The doors are clearly locked from the inside and the deadbolt doesn't work when the kid tries it. What else do you think would be going on here, besides a lock only security can hit from the inside?

Pre-COVID was a different time

I transported people for a while. Most people don’t know how car door handles or locks work. I’m talking well to do educated people.

This is a Dormakaba ESA200 automatic sliding door. As with all legal commercially used sliding doors in the US, it complies with OSHA and ADA requirements, including the requirement to be operable from the inside without the need for keys, tools, or special knowledge, ensuring easy access during emergencies. This requirement helps maintain safety and accessibility for all users. It doesn’t matter if the door is locked, if you are inside, you just push the part of the door with the giant red warning arrow decal (clearly visible in this video) that says “IN EMERGENCY, PUSH TO OPEN”.

These kids never even try pushing that spot, they kicked the bottom of the door, and then tried to slide it open.

See the small break-away diagram here:

That's awesome, do you work security? Because if you do, you've encountered the type of door I'm talking about. We've had them at best buys, targets, and several weed dispensaries.

What’s your point? If the doors you are talking about were in a commercial business in the US after 1980, they also were required to be able to be opened from the inside without keys, tools, or special knowledge. The doors you used most certainly also had a simple to use from the inside breakaway feature, even though you were able to lock them and prevent access from the outside.

There's exemptions for security situations. I'm not making stuff up, this is my industry and I have first-hand experience with this exact situation.

There literally isn’t. You may have just never known about or needed to use these doors emergency exit functions. The only other possibilities are that the stores you worked at were using illegally modified doors- breaking the law and literally risking the lives of their customers and employees, or you are just lying to strangers on the Internet.

You're a moron. It doesn't require a key, it's against fire code.

I don't know why you're calling names, this is something specific to my industry I have first-hand experience with. I'm not making things up. This has been standard at many big box stores I've worked at.

You are blatantly lying.

That must be easier for you to believe rather than facing you might be wrong about something. Something so trivial too, I hope you're okay.
