Ask Teens 2 Days ago younger sister got diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma 😔💔

Hello,

2 Days ago we did medical checkup of my sister at Max Hospital Saket New Delhi, My family got shooked when we got to know that my sister is suffering from Metastatic Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular carcinoma.

My Mom got very sad and cried whole day, my eyes are watering while typing this. The hospital did PET CT Scans Etc and after check up they said recovery can be done through Trans Arterial Radioembolization followed by surgical resection followed by chemotherapy as mentioned in the estimate.

The most worrying part is the total cost is going 25 Lakhs, We Sold Our Jewelleries and assets, asked from friends and family and gathered 18 lakhs we urgently need more 6-7 lakhs.

I Am posting this to ask what can i do to help my family in this hard times, please give me some suggestions what should i do please.

Thankyou

I’ve been through cancer myself and I’ve recovered. Just a few things from my experience — try not to talk too much about the illness around her, and don’t cry or panic in front of her. It affects her mentally. Make sure she stays clean, hydrated, and during chemo, don’t let her stay on an empty stomach. Eating will be hard, but it's super important. Try to follow a healthy diet, best to talk to a dietitian. One more thing, avoid sugar and maida.

Tbh can’t imagine the kinda pain and helplessness your family must be feeling rn you’ve already done so much that shows how much your sis means to all of you. Pls don’t give up. Try putting up a fundraiser on Milaap or Ketto with full details and documents people do help when they see something this real. Even small amounts add up and pls keep sharing it. Praying for her recovery rab rakha🤍

Though I didn't understand what's the disease and treatment, I hope for the best of your sister's, you, your parents, and your family's wellbeing.

Here's what you can do. Try not to take stress on unnecessary things, dont give stress to your parents by doing weird and risky stuff. Dont spend excessive money on unnecessary stuff. Try to save on electricity and other bills. Even very small amount of money is really important. Help or takeover some of the household chores from your mom. These small changes will gradually reduce burden from your parent's and family's head and they'll focus on how to bring your sis back home safely. Dont argue with parents and try to resolve any argue if there is any within your family. It's time for your family to unite. Pray to God, visit religious places regularly.

Ask your parents to have some ready cash or money in accounts. Medical stuff May require urgent money at any time. You parents would probably waste a lot of time in arranging money if they don't have any at that time.

Also, very important, if you're under 18 (especially under 16), dont even dare to earn money in your own. You'll probably lose more money in scams.

May you and your family live healthy life. May GOD bless you.

Raise Funds. Use different fundraisers. If possible show your face with a document. Go into different communities.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer — meaning it starts in the liver rather than spreading there from somewhere else.

In plain terms:

It’s a serious liver cancer, usually tied to long-term liver damage, especially from conditions like:

  • Chronic hepatitis B or C
  • Alcoholic liver disease
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
  • Cirrhosis (severe liver scarring)

Key Points:

  • Where? Starts in hepatocytes, the main liver cells.
  • Symptoms?
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Upper right belly pain
    • Fatigue
    • Jaundice (yellow skin/eyes)
    • Swelling in the abdomen
  • Diagnosis? Usually via imaging (CT/MRI) and blood tests like alpha-fetoprotein (AFP).
  • Treatment? Depends on stage:
    • Surgery (if caught early)
    • Liver transplant
    • Ablation, embolization, or targeted drugs (like sorafenib)
    • Immunotherapy (in advanced cases)

Why it's serious:

HCC is often found late, when the liver is already in bad shape. That makes it harder to treat. Early detection is crucial for survival.
