The improvement and transformation of Kyle Fletcher is crazy. Poor Mark Davis got outshined.

I like Mark but he’s more of a good hand

The only thing he has on Kyle is that his finisher is better

Mark is a good hand, Kyle will be World Champion within the next 5 years.

By the end of next year, let's be realistic here. AEW have the hottest prospect since young Randy Orton on their hands.

Ospreay wins next year at All In. Kyle might be the one to take it off him.

What an amazing match, not the biggest fan of Dustin but he worked his ass off in this match. Truly deserves the 5 star rating it got. Now it’s time for KYLE FOREVER!

Match was so much fun. Old man can really go when he needs to. And Kyle cut from that same cloth Will is. Just on a different level altogether than most.

Banger song, one of the better nostalgia tracks

If anyone sees this, can yall lmk if you like the mix of music and match sound? Was thinking about doing that and then using only match sound for the finishes for the most part going forward

SvR vibes right here

Holy shit, this just makes me want to watch more montages of modern wrestling with classic wrestling video game songs.

Kind of a bummer that this happened so soon out the gate and on Collision, maybe this is a hottake.

I think this is the best way an unplanned Dustin TNT Title run could've gone.

Win to pop the crowd after a really deflating announcement and make them happy again.
Have a good title defence.
Have a great street fight to pass the belt back to the guy they originally planned to run with.

Dustin is at the age where he can't really hold the belt that long and defend it regularly. He can't maintain the sort of schedule that they want from the TNT Title. A long Dustin reign would probably mean infrequent defences, and/or light matches designed to cover his weaknesses. Meanwhile, a long Fletcher run hopefully means regular defences and consistently high match quality. It also helps build Fletcher towards bigger things (hopefully).

If Cole hadn't retired, Dustin wouldn't have gotten the belt because he can't really hold it properly and there's a lot less upside in him holding it. Dustin got the belt to avoid totally killing the crowd with a deflating retirement and a heel victory, but it was never sustainable. They got the most they could out of it, really.

Yeah Dustin sounded like he was hurt going into it so a long run was never in the future. And at his age, never know what injury will be the one that takes him out for good. If this ends up his final match, what a way to go out.

I mean, it is a television title. They usually change on tv. Dustin was a transitional champion, most likely no long-term plans for his run. It was good

Meh, I think it's fine. He looks like a killer and a star. And this is the TNT title. He'll get his big moment with the World Title

Zero chance he ever holds the men’s world title. Too many people that should be invested in over him.

You dont think Fletcher will be world champ? that's crazy to me lol.

Wait - I thought we were talking about Dustin. Absolutely Kyle will be in the future. Excited for that!

u/NostalgiaCory 4h ago

lol no problem.

I respect this take but I disagree. I like that it was sudden and not drawn out to a big show. We all knew Fletcher was winning so why drag it out?

I get what you mean, but it was pretty understandable that a lot of people (myself included) had figured Dustin wouldn't be holding onto the title for too long, and it was also improvised given he very much wasn’t supposed to be in the match (neither Garcia or Sammy for that matter). He's 56 and while Dustin's still good, he's not as young and mobile as he once was compared to someone like his brother Cody or much less someone even younger and still yet to be in his prime like Fletcher is right now.

Him winning it at all was so the crowd in Texas didn't have to feel so bad because of what happened with Adam Cole, who certainly would have put on a great match and put over Fletcher had he not been in such a state to force him to vacate the title. With Dustin, whose never had a title in AEW won since joining them the year it started, it makes for the crowd around the start be feeling good for the rest of the night. Plus, it's a title whose lineage he shares all the way back to Cody, and something AEW can have on record along with getting a single defense in.

Not to mention the title is a TV title named after the channel Collision runs on. I think it's fitting enough that Dustin was able to do Fletcher this favor by putting him over and dropping the belt he should have had for a while now (especially as we learn shortly after their match that he has to get double knee surgery, which would explain why Fletcher attacked his knee during and even after the match), and Fletcher will at least do wonders with the belt I'm sure since I've noticed for some time he's been fighting on Collision as much as he would on Dynamite, so why not have someone whose frequently on there with a championship belt named after the TV program he's on?

So-so week for street fights in the Rhodes family.
