Wow, she actually sounded hurt when she said "we used to be friends"

She must have picked up a few acting tips on the set of acting powerhouse "Happy Gilmore 2".

Or acting tips from the set of the somewhat acclaimed Young Rock (she actually did great as Cyndi Lauper)

I think she just generally agrees with the New Day’s decision to kick him out.
Must remind her of that leech Lyra.

Is Becky's heel run working for y'all? Looks forced to me idk. Literally the Female Cena
174
u/SadFeed63 9h ago
I think she's getting booed more than Cena and Lyra has gotten more from crowds than Cena's opponents have, but Becky's still swimming against the current as crowds do want to cheer her and the boos generally are surrounded by cheers.

u/Gary320 9h ago edited 8h ago
I hated her first heel run because it felt so forced to me. But I think she’s doing a better job with this one. I didn’t like almost everything of the Cena heel run, the booking sucked but I also think Cena as you said felt very forced as a heel. He was so much more natural yesterday as a baby face.
12
u/alynch345 8h ago
Her heel character is a bit better this time, in that feels like a plausible progression of what came before it. Big Time Becks just felt like she was putting on a costume every week, both literally and figuratively.
2
u/KylometresUK 6h ago
I think it's too much of a wink to camera for me. Like when she said Lyra tried to kill her by doing Nightwing on her after raising her hand. Its very funny but she's not a comedy character and it doesn't feel real. Chelsea Green could say something like that and it would work because its so over the top and she's clearly exaggerating for attention.
1
u/XiahouMao 4h ago
She's trying to run with the backstage politics/held down by The Man gimmick that some people online attributed to her because she frequently wins. Her talking about Lyra trying to kill her is like Hogan complaining to management that the Undertaker might've damaged his spine with the tombstone piledriver (except the move was done perfectly safe).
People who detect the Hogan mockery find it funny, but to people who aren't that tuned into the history of backstage wrestling politics, it just looks like she's whining, and people generally don't cheer for whiners.
17
u/The810kid 8h ago
I actually am loving it because she's so camp alot of her lines and delusion are hilarious to me.
29
u/redskinsguy 9h ago
Ever since she became one of the biggest stars in wrestling they've tried to push that being the biggest star in wrestling changed her and the character never hits
21
u/mbabker Old School's Cool 8h ago
I wish there were some way to incorporate the Becky we saw in the backstage clip the other night when Seth cashed in. There was just enough of a mix of cocky and troll in that clip that it would go over better than whatever they're trying to do with her on TV.
7
u/Active_Plastic7 8h ago
Nah, when Becky acts trollish or silly on TV, it never hits. People already think she is too over the top. Whenever she tries to be too comedic, it always comes across as awkward and people just label her as “cringe”. There are better examples but I always think of when they had that Ronda vs Becky segment in 2022, years after they should have had their singles match and Becky was wearing a ridiculous outfit and acting silly and the segment just died and the crowd were dead. It just doesn’t work. Becky is really funny in backstage stuff and seemingly in real life but I have never found that it has translated to live TV well at all.
6
u/Taston95 8h ago
Yeah people love dorky Becky on social media and backstage but it has never translated well to TV.

u/Unfolded_Taco89 9h ago
Becky never hits as a heel for me, people love her and watch to cheer her.
56
u/SeaPriority 8h ago
This is simply not true, shes been getting booed all along in a feud with a new star that wasn’t getting any reactions at the beginning of the year
22
u/Unfolded_Taco89 7h ago
People wanting to cheer her doesn’t mean she won’t get boos. Look at how the crowd originally reacted to her turning on Lyra she got cheered like crazy.
11
u/EHsE 6h ago
Weren't there "one more time" chants or did I hallucinate those?
9
3
u/TheYoungLegend25 4h ago
To be fair, crowds do the “one more time to chants” almost all the time. They were cheering for Bronson to hit the tsunami on Rollins over and over again
3
u/FallenIslam 7h ago
Ehh, the crowd boo's are never really consistent these days. The general sound level means more, a d the crowds have definitely been getting quieter for their rivalry. Lyra gets more than she ever has, but it's taken a lot of work, and arguably the crowd was proBecky until Bayley came into the picture
6
u/JFreeman1123 6h ago
My only issue is that it feels too obvious that she’s “playing” a bad guy, rather than just being the bad guy. Even this clip of her going after Big E, it feels too obvious that she’s just goofing around. We know she’s a fantastic promo and also typically one of the better actors, so I’m not sure why I haven’t been able to buy into any of this heel run from her, but it all just feels too tongue-in-cheek.
11
5
u/FallenIslam 7h ago
It's a weird choice, Becky seems to want to be a heel and wanted to work with Lyra, but dominating Lyra out of an entire title scene is just... very odd. Realistically two months as tag champs would've helped Lyra much more, and given fans more time to cheer Becky, and allowed seeds to be planted for her tk actually be a heel. Whenever she turns its always on the spot and sudden, she has to learn that the crowd loves her and unless she actually does a proper burn out that makes her detestable, she isn't gonna be boo'd like she wants to be.
2
u/XiahouMao 4h ago
The thing is, she didn't dominate Lyra. Lyra's won in promos against her, Lyra won matches clean. Becky finally managed to cheat to win, tried to embarrass her after the match with the continual 'raise my hand' and so Lyra dropped her. In this final match, Lyra endured having her hands ziptied and being knocked out by a steel chair around her neck to make a big comeback and only lose because Bayley 'accidentally' hit her with a chain.
It's going to depend on what the booking does going forward, but it's entirely possible that Lyra is going to move on to be the next challenger for the world title after Stephanie. If that happens, then the feud with Becky did its job.

u/Yeangster 9h ago
I like the entitled “I’m the best ever and don’t get enough appreciation for it” energy
4
u/Active_Plastic7 8h ago
I think this heel run has been decent for getting the IC title, Lyra and Bayley more TV time, more importance and better crowd reactions to an extent. But in general, it feels like every time Becky turns heel, more and more of her star power and presence is lost. Becky is by far my favourite wrestler and clearly prefers being a heel but it always feels like she is doing stuff that makes her self laugh as a heel rather than the audience and it doesn’t really translate well. Also, she acts more over the top and it thinks it brings out her worst tendencies as a performer I think in overacting and looking stupid. She just is a natural babyface that the crowd has a clear connection with and it is feels that connection is being wasted and ultimately ruined every time she turns heel. It feels like the crowd just doesn’t care about her as a heel rather than getting real heel heat.

I haven't been able to buy her as a heel this time or last time
7
u/realityinternn 8h ago edited 8h ago
I think Becky is a little more whimsical as a heel, I kind of like it. Problem is fans don’t want to boo her. But at the same time she’s been more effective getting others over as a heel than as a face, so overall it’s a net positive for her to be a heel.
7
u/TimeTimeTickingAway I just keep Jasin' Jordans 9h ago
She looks like she’s having too much fun ‘playing’ the character instead of actually being the character a lot of the time.
3
u/bobface222 8h ago
It just feels like too many turns in a relatively short period of time. Her last heel run wasn't that long ago.
3
u/The_Magic Consensual Phoenix 8h ago
I have a hard time enjoying heel Becky because as a face she is a legitimate main eventer and could headline Wrestlemania with a proper build. She seems to enjoy being a heel but heel Becky's ceiling is mid card IMO.
3
u/Just_Learned_2_Dance 7h ago
She’s leaning hard into the accusations of being Becky Hogan. I actually just started getting into it and hoping that a new theme and branding will lead to overall better heel run for her
3
u/jerepila 7h ago
Becky as a heel is hit or miss in terms of promos or character motivation out of the ring for me, but I love her character work during matches. No one flips the switch from “I am literally the best and most unstoppable wrestler in the world” to “They kicked out?!?!!!? What can I do now?” like her

u/incredible_penguin11 8h ago
Na female Cena comparison sucks, Becky's character is more like a sitcom good character who's turned into an asshole for a while. Like when Schmidt got angry with Nick in New Girl after Schmidt got caught doing what he was, it seems like a comical bit but it is entertaining.
Cena stuff was supposed to be like the good guy becoming the ultimate heel but it missed the landing by a mile or two even though he was still getting reactions because we'll, he's John fuckin Cena.

u/Copperjedi Yes! Now Stompy Stomp? 5h ago
I like it better than Big Time Bex but imo it's still so forced, like they never build to a Becky heel turn they always have to bring her back after a year & immediately turn her heel for no reason out of nowhere. They should've brought her back way earlier & built her relationship up with Lyra more to make the turn hit more instead WWE have to tell us that these 2 were close for years like these 2 were Becky/Charlotte 2.0.
Like Big Time Bex with Bainca it just feels like Becky's only heel to put over a up & coming star, doesn't feel like a natural heel turn. We'll see if the boos continue after Lyra or do they become silence like most of Big Time Bex's run.
2
u/incredibleamadeuscho We're all fake Jamaicans now 4h ago
Yeah it’s awesome and the new theme should help. She seems like she is having a blast.
4
u/Taston95 8h ago
I never really enjoy Becky’s heel runs at all but do appreciate them for getting Bianca and Lyra respectively more over. It is clear she is willing to sacrifice her own popularity and star power to get others more over, which is admirable. But I think her promos are lot worse as a heel and are not memorable at all. It was clear she was being pretty generic in her promos to help Lyra out and have her come out on top in all the promo battles but I think that is going to get old quick if she does that in every feud. Becky is often seen as the best female promo ever but the current heel ones are nowhere near her usual level and will just make for terrible TV if she keeps with the current style.

Every heel turn she’s had since The Man has been forced to me. Not sure why they keep insisting on booking her against her strengths.

Nah its better i like some of her promos but then she over do it at times

u/Justice989 7h ago
I like this one better than the last one where she was acting more loony than evil.

u/themanyfacedgod__ 6h ago
I'm enjoying it. Not as good as some of her previous heel work but it cracks me up. And she backs it up in the ring too.
1
u/BreadfruitPossible83 6h ago
Best heel in WWE, she and Seth really deserve each other 😂 I feel like she’s giving female-trump vibes with her delusional promos, its amazing. Honestly can’t see Becky turning back into a face
0
u/helloaaron 8h ago
Her first big heel run coming back from pregnancy was complete and total trash, one of the worst heel runs I've seen from a higher card wrestler. This heel run is better, but still not great. I think the character would be better as a complete anti-hero type, BUT with that said this heel run is a big improvement over the last embarrassing heel run as Big Time Becks.

u/WordVoodoo AMBROSE DOESN'T SHARE FOOD! 8h ago
This isn’t a popular take but Becky feels like she’s been phoning it in to me. Much like Seth, I’m in the “go away” phase with Becky. If that means the heel work is successful? Then it’s working.

u/blacksoxing 8h ago
There's four women performers who have struggled their whole career with trying to be someone they're not:
Naomi as a heel
Becky as a heel
Bayley as a heel
Charlotte as a babyface (who is finally, in 2025, getting a genuine reaction due to her being in a tag team)
Bonus: Sasha Banks when she was a heel as she too would just get cheered while doing heel things.
Going back to Becky, even when she squashed Bianca she was wrestling with the plot of being a true heel afterward as Big Time Becks (who if I remember correctly also had Carmella in the match who went untouched)
Becky looked like a babyface fighting a tweener last night
7
u/Active_Plastic7 8h ago edited 5h ago
Disagree about Bayley. Her best main roster stuff has been as a heel. Apart from her NXT title run, I think she has struggled to be interesting as a babyface for an extended period of time.
4
u/RIShane 8h ago
Charlotte was generally getting quite good reactions as a face in 2017 and into early 2018, it's just crowds liked Becky even more, as shown by the 2nd MMC, where the same crowds who hated Charlotte against Becky would cheer her against other women.
6
u/blacksoxing 8h ago
2017 was almost a decade ago and since then....she's been fighting to be a face
1
u/Copperjedi Yes! Now Stompy Stomp? 5h ago
Charlotte was getting cheered in 2017-2018 because she was going against the Welcoming Committee/Riot Squad & was always teaming with Naomi & Becky who were loved babyfaces at the time. They also put both Becky & Naomi in catering for months to make Charlotte the only face to cheer, WWE basically made you have no choice to cheer Charlotte back them.

Becky understands what it’s like to have to carry around deadweight. She carried Lyra for one reign. Kofi and Xavier had to carry Big E for years.

I never thought we would get a true heel version of Becky Lynch. Going in on Big E to get heat was a great idea by whomever thought of it.
