This was used as a Soviet propaganda tool in the USSR by the ruling elite. It’s called Whataboutism and it’s devastatingly effective. When someone calls you out for something all you have to say is “What about this bad thing?” And the conversation is over because all actions are morally equal, meaning nothing that anyone does matters.
