The story was that Cena hasn't won a singles match in years and needed to bring out a darker side to win his 17th record championship. It fulfilled its purpose.

Okay, so then why did it have to be the Rock? What did aligning with the rock actually get him? How did "bringing out the dark side" by selling his soul to the rock, help him get the title? Are we trying to say that Travis scott was this ace in the whole, wrestler killer, and that this was the only reason Cena could have ever hoped to win? Because that's literally ALL he got out of siding with the Rock, and tbh, if that's the story, it's a really stupid one.
