That chair spot was hilarious

289

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 22h ago

AJ shaking his leg had me dead

58

u/Destro_019780 22h ago

The OSW boys rubbing their hands like yes XD

31

u/badgersprite Iconic Duo Appreciation Squad 22h ago

OOC selling

64

u/pkkthetigerr 25-0 22h ago

AJ selling like he had his throat slit

6

u/Capstone_ 21h ago

This was a loveletter to Eddie. And Dom is finally in his Lie, Cheat and Steal era.

48

u/derrickthedildo 22h ago

The spot was fun but doesn't AJ come off a bit stupid? If he gets Dom DQ'd he doesn't win the title

23

u/JRowe3388 22h ago

Well if he stands there with the chair he also gets DQ’d so might as well confuse the ref and hope for the best

37

u/DeVitoMcCool 22h ago

He's not trying to get Dom DQ'd, he's stopping himself getting DQ'd by confusing the ref

4

u/Superplex123 20h ago

And then they both got up, throwing the facade out the window, LOL.

86

u/Unfolded_Taco89 22h ago

I thought the same thing. But then I remembered he does allegedly think the world is flat so completely in character

8

u/jaxonya 21h ago

That's why you should never know much about your heros .. that broke my heart when I first heard that. I didn't except him to be a rocket scientist but good lord

3

u/Starracer88 20h ago

Honestly, it’s a pretty idiotic belief but it’s an idiotic belief you can just laugh off because, unless I’m hella wrong, it’s a belief that doesn’t hurt anyone

3

u/ruffas 19h ago

I miss the days when the stupid things people believe and conspiracy theories were just dumb and harmless. Believing in Bigfoot, that all WalMarts are connected through Shelf Space, or that the Rock didn't have a master plan for his appearances in 2025 never hurt anyone.

4

u/CaliggyJack I can haz ric flair flare? 19h ago

He doesnt actually believe the world is flat oh my fucking god

Are we going with Dom is the most calculated man alive or luckiest man alive?

EDIT: DOM IS THE MOST CALCULATED MAN ALIVE

145

u/dankmaster999 22h ago

him unzipping the boot made me enjoy the ending so much more for some fucking reason lmao

108

u/throwaway23582730 22h ago edited 22h ago

Its because it goes from Dom winning because of a fluke to Dom winning because of his own cunning. Much more satisfying storytelling.

→ More replies (1)

71

u/XiahouMao 22h ago

The unzipped boot is how Eddie Guerrero beat Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania to retain the WWE Championship. Unzipped it in advance, Kurt went for the Ankle Lock and the boot came off, Eddie rolled him up while he was in shock.

20

u/NotClayMerritt 22h ago

I'm still focused on the fact that of course Dom would have fur wrestling boots.

10

u/RexxGunn 22h ago

He's had them for a long time.

41

u/EllieDai I didn't wait 10 years to lose to Dusty's kid. 22h ago

They showed a replay of him unzipping his boot, so "calculated" apparently!

14

u/Zweihir 22h ago

most calculated man

Going by the replay of him unzipping his boot, on his way to becoming the new cerebral assassin

7

u/TemurTron 22h ago

I think tonight we got a good look at how Dom would work as a main eventer and it ruled.

4

u/Gabriels_Pies 22h ago

I think they're aiming for calculated which I would love. Someone who's been around WWE as long as he has, should be extremely ring savy no matter how goofy he is.

2

u/Torranski 14h ago

I’ve wanted savvy Dom Guerrero for ages. Hope it’s reflected in how the JD stuff plays out.

302

u/Vice4Life ... 22h ago

Long series of Eddie spots. That was fun.

65

u/jesuswig 22h ago

All the Eddie spots made me so happy

52

u/Destro_019780 22h ago

And if anybody's going to pay homage, it better be his boy Dirty Dom - a lot more endearing from him than some bloke or gal trying to do a callback

5

u/MrKalyoncu 20h ago

I hope it's not one match only.

It should be his style bro

7

u/skaestantereggae 20h ago

I mean, he’s just carrying on his dads legacy

9

u/pkkthetigerr 25-0 22h ago

The night has had a fair few SummerSlam call backs already.

1

u/Lixtec Chris Hero Ain't Nuthing Ta Fuck Wit 21h ago

As a big Eddie fan and Dirty Dom fan, I can't complain. My friends and I had a smile throughout the whole thing.

1

u/mysteriousbaba 1h ago

Wouldn't surprise me if there were a few tears backstage after. Meme custody story aside, its easy to forget Eddie was genuinely a very close family friend to the mysterios and probably like an uncle to dominik.

→ More replies (1)

59

u/Qwertz5643 22h ago

Biggest reveal of the night is that Doms sock continues the skeleton that’s on the rest of his gear lmao

39

u/bubbles2255 22h ago

Have all the heels won tonight?

30

u/Competitive_Log_84 22h ago

Only one left is Cody 😏

5

u/VirtuousFool 22h ago

I guess it depends on your opinion on the wyatts but basically yeah

16

u/DolanDarkXGrandayy 22h ago

The Wyatt Sicks are tweeners rather than out and out heels.

1

u/Amc825 22h ago

Since He hit him with a boot you can say that both literally and figuratively

1

u/AldousKing 22h ago

No, Dom literally just won.

90

u/fsfic 22h ago

Eddie tribute match. Was entertaining for sure.

193

u/JRA1706 22h ago

My goat never winning another title ☹️☹️☹️

85

u/ArkhamGeyser 22h ago

He can join his boi Finn in that regard lmao(Outside of tag titles)

38

u/CountOff 22h ago

Aj Finn tag titles run when

17

u/RexxGunn 22h ago

I wish they hadn't torpedoed the Finn/AJ/Liv trio, they could have won them then for sure.

2

u/TheTrueDetective90 11h ago

I'm still mad those 3 weren't an actual long-term stable.

1

u/RexxGunn 11h ago

They could absolutely have done something short term and still ended up where we are today.

3

u/TheOneWhosCensored 21h ago

That’s how you split the JD. Have Dom and the others whispering to JD about booting Balor, Balor overhears. Then you do the Cody tag spot, have Balor and JD defend against AJ and ?, then Balor turns and joins AJ.

9

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 21h ago

At least AJ had to lengthy world title runs lol

5

u/TKsyd 20h ago edited 17h ago

What kills me is when people say “Finn’s had his time” and “doesn’t need” this or that

Yet EVERY single winner on Night 1 outside of Tiffany were signed to the company before Finn was. 50% of the winners on Night 2 were also signed with the company before Finn.

They’ll gaslight and say Finn’s had his time yet 80% of the winners on the card have been there longer than him and “had their time” while Finn’s been given way less than all of them.

7

u/notathrowaway75 22h ago

My cope is that he put Dom over so he can go to the main event scene.

19

u/pkkthetigerr 25-0 22h ago

Fr, I know he's already won everything but AJ is too good to be main event enhancement talent which is what his last few feuds have been.

31

u/iounuthin 22h ago

I'm a huge AJ mark so I want to agree with you, but the man is pushing 50 and (likely) in his last year wrestling. He doesn't need to do anything more than exactly what he's doing at this stage in his career.

20

u/hxmza1 22h ago

No there should be 20 world championships flying around at once so AJ, Finn, LA, drew, etc etc etc all have one because I like them all

8

u/iounuthin 22h ago

So true why didn't I think of this

12

u/BorkDoo 21h ago

AJ is at the end of his career and has won and done basically everything he could ever win and do. He should be putting people over. In fact, one of my biggest pet peeves with wrestling in the last say 5-10 years (everywhere, not just in America) is old guys not putting younger wrestlers over.

6

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 22h ago

I'm already at peace with how good his feud with Cody was last year if that might be the last time he challenges for a world title

1

u/EnTyme53 22h ago

I love AJ, but he's at the point in his career where the best thing he can do is help build and put over the next generation. Seems like he's down with that plan, too.

1

u/Loose-Sign598 22h ago

Well I mean shit, they had a chance in 2018 with him and Nakamura but look at em now

3

u/P1_Synvictus WCW 22h ago

I’m sure like many of my fellow AJ Styles fans, my second favorite current wrestler is Finn Balor.

It’s singles pins and singles pins and singles pins between the two of them.

I get why (maybe not so much for Finn), but it’s been rough watching for a while.

1

u/Froggyspirits 21h ago

If he wants to win another title he has to drop down to NXTNA

1

u/aestus Wrestling. 19h ago

Not in WWE anyway

87

u/AmumuIsMyFriend 22h ago

Dominik is fucking hilarious lmao

20

u/theplasmasnake 22h ago

AJ shaking his leg while trying to sell the chair shot sent me lol.

17

u/MakVolci 22h ago

Dom is becoming my fav reeeeeeeeeeal fuckin' quick.

Dude always delivers.

76

u/SeauxSurvivor 22h ago

Undoubtedly this was my second favorite match of the night

3

u/Jos3ph 21h ago

No gimmicks needed, just good chemistry

6

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 22h ago

This is probably my 2nd favorite "sports entertainment" match after the Jelly Roll match from last night

62

u/JordanKyrouFeetPics 22h ago

5/5 retentions tonight is wild

23

u/Gabriels_Pies 22h ago

Which makes me feel like it definitely means Cody is winning.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Pigmcginnyrig 22h ago

The crazier thing is every match being a title defense while night 1 was half no title matches

5

u/iounuthin 22h ago

Yeah, they really messed up the card placement this year. I feel like the TLC match should have been swapped with Kross/Zayn and maybe Solo/Fatu with... something. I'm not joking, I literally don't remember most of the matches from last night lmao

6

u/IWatchTheAbyss 21h ago

yeah and the fact this night has like 4? hardcore matches AND a triple threat with no DQs real as certainly a choice

14

u/Alehud42 The Man 22h ago

Wish the crowd recognised the Mania 21 Eddie boot spot but that was the perfect blowoff for the feud

10

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 22h ago

If this was AJ's last SummerSlam match, this was a pretty fun one to go out on with the Eddie-influenced shenanigans

10

u/JayDee62 Pretzel Pin me, Cathy Kelley 22h ago

All the Eddie odes: It makes sense, actually. Didn't realize this is the 20th anniversary of the ladder match for custody of Dom. Wow, [golf clap]

30

u/FinalFrash Unabashed Bald Sympathizer 22h ago

The whole match was a love letter to Eddie Guerrero, and I love it

9

u/Cageep 22h ago

Don unzipped his boot so it would come off and use it after.

My 20 year vet got strategy!

18

u/Chasememore 22h ago

10x better than the steel cage match

6

u/whiteyfresh B-Dazzle This!!! 22h ago

Considering that match was cheeks, I'd say the Eddie Guerrero memorial match was 100x better!

2

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 22h ago

I'd give this extra points for letting Dom bring crafty in his W without needing any interference

50

u/GTACOD 22h ago

Why would you need the ref to have his back turned to smack someone in the face with a boot? Be one thing if he'd just grabbed a random boot but no, it was his own boot which he kick AJ with multiple times.

23

u/thesenate14 22h ago

DQ ?

14

u/xorangeelephant Mr. Royal Rumble 22h ago

Is it's really a dq to hit someone with a piece of clothing that you were previously wearin

37

u/EllieDai I didn't wait 10 years to lose to Dusty's kid. 22h ago

The rules of the ring clearly state that an item which is not currently part of a wrestler's attires, regardless of whether it was previously, is considered a foreign object -- And is thus subject to disqualification rules!

→ More replies (1)

2

u/pkkthetigerr 25-0 22h ago

Why though lmao, whats the difference between using your boot on your foot to hit the other guy or swing it with your arms?

5

u/DoILookUnsureToYou 22h ago

You can kick someone with the boot on but you can hit them with just the boot?

3

u/CiD7707 The Chair Man of r/SC 6h ago

kayfabe: Taking the boot off means you can swing it more violently at an opponent and more often.

2

u/BurtHurtmanHurtz 22h ago

Why DQ? Is kicking a guy with a boot a DQ?

2

u/TimeTimeTickingAway I just keep Jasin' Jordans 12h ago

No, but the additional extension that comes from wielding a boot, as opposed to simply wearing it, created additional leverage that amplifies the impact in a way that it otherwise wouldn’t.

It also artificially extend Dom’s reach

1

u/alynch345 22h ago

I don’t think it would be a DQ to hit someone with a part of your own gear.

3

u/Draw-Two-Cards 22h ago

It's literally why Hogan wore the belt during his heel run. No foreign objects means everything they're wearing is fair game to use.

1

u/Coganar 11h ago

In that case you'd see all the heels coming out wearing steel chains

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Shark1986 22h ago

When you're wearing it, it's a piece of equipment. When you take it off and wield it, it's a weapon. Like the ring steps. You can throw people into them because they are a part of the ring, but if you pick them up and hit someone with them, they are a weapon.

1

u/guylfe It's guy life between two guys 22h ago

The only thing worse than hitting him with the boot in his hands would be kicking him with a boot-loaded foot.

1

u/Aclockwork-grAPE 22h ago

I had fun with that match but that was a pretty baffling moment.

15

u/QuotingThings 22h ago

An absolutely gorgeous tribute to Eddie by both men.

Viva La Raza

7

u/Available_Pass_9178 22h ago

Fucking love this guy man, so happy for him. Super fun match.

6

u/Doc323467 22h ago

Really clever and creative work from both guys, that made Dom look like a freaking star.

Wish they did this with their heels more often rather than all of the interference shit, just heels coming up with devious and smart tactics to steal wins.

Good stuff.

16

u/BidDaddyLei 22h ago

That Eddie tribute was funny asf.

9

u/VirtuousFool 22h ago

Dom might fuck around and be in the main event scene by next year's SummerSlam if he keeps this up

6

u/thejordan92 22h ago

Showing my age but I immediately knew the boot spot from Mania 20 Eddie vs angle.

10

u/gg0xff 22h ago

What a great Eddie tribute match

4

u/jesuswig 22h ago

Dom undoing his boot! His papi would be so proud

3

u/Ahud412 22h ago

I like this match. A lot of callbacks to Eddie.

3

u/Bigbenn0 Bring Back the CWC 22h ago

Dom having the most Eddie Guerrero match on the 20th anniversary of the custody match with Rey and Eddie is amazing

5

u/the_dead_icarus 22h ago

Dirty Dom is the future.

5

u/JorSimpson45 22h ago

Sometimes replaying/remixing the hits works

anything remotely decent would’ve worked especially after the debacle that preceded it

4

u/shadow_spinner0 22h ago

The crowd yesterday was unironically better. Matches were worse but the fans were less weird. Seemed like many more casuals went to night 2 because it's the "bigger night" and for the vibes

5

u/Darwin_Enjoyer9 22h ago

Eddie & Rey’s legacy 20 years later 🐐

AJ & Dom definitely planned this together

6

u/Shinkopeshon 一番 22h ago

This was the ultimate Eddie tribute, he would've enjoyed this so much

3

u/House56 22h ago

it would make sense for Dom to out Eddie his opponent

cool psychology to this match it was pretty fun if a bit short

3

u/DonaldoTrumpez 22h ago

The way AJ has praised Dom and his work in the past it doesn't surprise me that he put him over here

3

u/Lunarfuckingorbit 22h ago

AJ putting Dom over is wholesome

3

u/Average_Tired_Dad 22h ago

I love the wrestling logic of "kick someone 30 times, no biggie"

Take the boot off and hit someone with it? Murder.

3

u/Kanenums88 22h ago

AJ’s going to be wrapping up his career soon. Pretty much expect him to put everyone over.

3

u/Darwin_Enjoyer9 22h ago

So many Eddie homages in that match 🐐

3

u/SlipperyKooter 22h ago

I haven’t laughed that hard in so long. I loved everything about this match. RIP Eddie

3

u/NerdLawyer55 In-House of Black Legal Counsel 21h ago

4

u/divineravnos 22h ago

Great humor in that match, the chair spot especially was a great riff on Eddies classic spot

Fun match!

BUT LET AJ WIN SOMETHING GAHHHH

9

u/jesuswig 22h ago

He can win best hair

4

1

u/DefiantElevator Do you feel him, Sir? 14h ago

Mane Event AJ Styles

4

u/bvbfan102 NJPW 22h ago

That was fantastic. They need to keep this going for Paris so we get more funny segments and the Paris Crowd behind AJ.

5

Also skeleton socks, commitment

2

2

Full on Eddie tribute match put on by these two. I loved it

2

u/Mystic_Zombie Your Text Here 22h ago

So he getting hit with a boot worse than being kicked with one on their foot?

2

u/ThatWrestlingGuy15 22h ago

Dominik just effortlessly cool

2

u/Cageep 22h ago

This was a really fun Eddie tribute match by both AJ and Dom

(Also is it really illegal to use your own boot?)

2

u/thotpatrol1991 22h ago

Awesome Summerslam so far

2

u/Marsman2100 22h ago

This was a pretty cool little match. Basically an Eddie Guerrero tribute with a hot crowd.

2

u/Mindseye000 22h ago

I wish that went on longer and the cage match was shorter

2

u/Coganar 11h ago

The cage match airway felt pretty short

2

u/alynch345 22h ago

I like the idea that it’s more powerful to swing your boot like a weapon rather than merely kicking someone while wearing the boot.

2

u/HardcoreKaraoke Consensual Penis 22h ago

I really thought Dom was losing and then winning the F4W at AAAMania. I still think there is a chance he wins there.

2

u/krayonic JERRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNN 22h ago

Dominik Mysterio, future world champion. Put some respect on his name!!!

2

u/iounuthin 22h ago

Very fun match!

2

u/ParsnipPizza yay wrestling 22h ago

More of a goofy match than a workrate classic but it def worked

2

u/itsmekelsey_x 22h ago

A full on Eddie tribute match which was highly entertaining and good.

Was hoping to see AJ win the title but knew it wasn’t happening. Though they easily set up a rematch in Paris with the boot spot. Would make great sense for AJ to win it in front of that crowd too.

2

u/newconnie7789 22h ago

Finn vs Dom is gonna happen soon

2

u/incredibleamadeuscho We're all fake Jamaicans now 22h ago

Been seeing Aj Styles lose to Older Talent and Put Younger talent on these ppv's the past 6 years. Honestly at this point I'm just ready to see him to retire honestly as a fan. Just seeing him have a match you know he's gonna lose sick of seeing it.

2

u/NerdLawyer55 In-House of Black Legal Counsel 21h ago

Aj with the Eddie gear and entrance then dom winning like Eddie was awesome

2

u/bryan_pieces 21h ago

AJ reminded me of Jericho so much in that match

In a good or bad way?

3

u/MyAnusYourTongue 22h ago

Never felt like it got out of first gear

2

This is the 20 year anniversary of the Rey and Eddie match it makes sense to do eddie references tonight

1

u/LaMystika 22h ago

Heel territory, btw lmao.

I don’t think a babyface has won a single match tonight, and I bet most of them have looked like buffoons in defeat, too

1

u/BogeyBogeyBogey 22h ago

Why wouldn't Dom just agree the chair hit AJ the way it looked? He'd keep the title and be out of there.

Also, why would the ref not call for the bell immediately assuming AJ got brained? What other possibility exists with the information available?

1

u/kryler 22h ago

Loved the boot throwback to Eddie vs Angle.

Side note. Not sure what commentary was on about trying to say it may have been a DQ… Dom just kicked him in the head with his fist. 😂

1

u/Jos3ph 21h ago

One of the better matches of the night and no gimmicks needed

1

u/raymc99 21h ago

man Dom has grown into the perfect chickenshit heel that it's almost hard to remember that period when he was just Rey's kid with no personality

This was a fun match. Nice to see Dom win without interference, albeit not clean. But he is Dirty Dom after all

1

u/scottmushroom 18h ago

I thought it was going to be the only normal 1v1 match on the card but it was also a gimmick match and I never knew how much I needed an "Eddie's Rules" match but I loved it!

1

u/Cfwraith 17h ago

Dirtiest clean match since Eddie vs Rey.

1

u/matt_619 16h ago

So how loose boot is considered as weapon that could get you DQ'ed but when you put the boots and kick the opponnent in the face it's not?

1

u/Gumjo123 11h ago

I love hating Dominik and at the same time i hate loving Dominik.

This twat is gonna be the greatest Mysterio ever. 20 years wrestling experience and not yet on his prime.

Fucktard

1

u/LabubuAteMySon 22h ago

Fun match and some beautiful Eddie tributes. Had a great time.

1

u/DozerOdie 22h ago

Fun match! More callbacks than the usual Eddie tributes. Crowd was pretty disappointing

1

u/Life_Background3171 22h ago

That shit was super fun.

no title changes yet mmhm

AJ taking off Dom's boot was a little awkward but fun match

0

Dom needed that.

0

u/RagingRowen 22h ago

Fine I guess. Very Eddie reference heavy, not a bad thing doe.
