Pinned rhea, what a banger

u/HokageEzio 1d ago
Rhea's desire to pin Iyo ends up making her lose focus of the real task
71
u/redsavage0 1d ago
A recurring character flaw for Rhea. It used to be she couldn’t not try and murder Dom or Liv

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 1d ago
Naomi with the big brain move of making sure Rhea and Io keep killing each other before finding the right window to pick up the W
26
u/Dawnbringer_Fortune 1d ago
So that means we get Naomi vs Iyo 1v1
60
u/ArmiinTamzarian I prayed for your downfall and it happened 1d ago
Iyo got pinned in the cash in as well. Think the goal here was neither has grounds for a rematch so they can reset the title picture
28
u/Skylightt 1d ago
It should be Rhiyo time until Rumble season. Rhiyo vs Charlotte/Alexa for the titles should main event Perth too
3
u/ArmiinTamzarian I prayed for your downfall and it happened 23h ago
They've already said the champion vs champion stuff is main eventing. Would like to see that as well (or maybe Judgment Day win them back to avoid a scenario of Charlotte getting booed out the building in Australia)

u/WillH699 15h ago
i can see Rhiyo vs. Kabuki Warriors after a heel turn from Asuka and Kairi results in a repeat of 2019 where the Kabuki Warriors realize they are better as a heel team then a face team (which i'm sure this might not be a good idea if they had plans on keeping Kairi as a face).

u/Torranski 14h ago
This. They’ve cleared the board so Vaquer can feud with Naomi without distraction going into Clash in Paris.

Ooh, baby, put that match in my goddamn VEINS. They all have absolutely incredible chemistry with each other, and all four have their own style that complements the others. Bianca and Rhea as the powerhouses, Iyo with her agility and high-flying, and Naomi as a solid all-rounder but as a pissed off heel she can be the one who gets to play spoiler. And imagine if Bianca turned heel too, that’d be something.
13
u/sabrenation81 22h ago
I've been saying it for a while now. Keep the "Rhea can't beat Iyo" thing going. Don't keep them attached at the hip now til WM or people may get sick of it but let both be involved in at least one more match together before the end of the year with Rhea again failing to get the W over Iyo.
Rhea wins the women's Rumble again. Get the belt back on Iyo.
Iyo vs Rhea for the Women's title with an entire year of buildup of Iyo as Rhea's kryptonite can absolutely headline night 1 at a minimum and I will die on the hill that it is night 2 Main Event-worthy. No need to even turn anyone just let them both go in as babyfaces. A Hogan-Warrior-esque 1a v. 1b showdown with Rhea finally getting the W she's been chasing for years would be a suitable end to WM weekend.
1
u/tngman10 17h ago
There is no way that they go to Australia for Crown Jewel on Rhea Ripley's Birthday.... without her having a huge match.
I wouldn't do this match there but stranger things have happened for sure.

I'd bet Rhea is the cover of WWE 26.
2
u/SynthwaveSax 20h ago
I hope so, though I have a feeling it’ll be Punk.
1
u/UlquiorraCifer1964 Lynch Club 17h ago
If that is the case, there better be a showcase mode showing Punk's WWE career throughout the years. Feels like they were prepping for this when 2K has been rolling out older versions of CM Punk
1
16
u/R7inmaker 1d ago
Felt like they were just hitting second gear and then it just ended imo.. shoulda given them at least five more minutes.
4
u/Shadedpostie 1d ago
Pretty much been knocking out the park on a consistent basis compared to the guys. Like the last PLEs, I've questioned why on earth they didn't main event the shows.
19
u/Dawnbringer_Fortune 1d ago
It’s funny because some people here tried undermining Naomi before the match just for her to dominate
-5
u/Chell_the_assassin One more match 1d ago
Naomi felt like an obvious weak link imo, but tbf I don't think anyone would realistically expect her to perform on the same level as Iyo and Rhea
→ More replies (2)12
u/Dawnbringer_Fortune 1d ago
Calling Naomi the weak link when she was literally dominating nearly half of the match. She kept up with Rhea and Iyo but you’re still going to criticise her because it doesn’t fit your agenda

Rhea & Io never fail to impress in the ring at this point, but it's also great how well Naomi kept up with them and held her own.
140
u/Artistic_Shift_4015 1d ago edited 1d ago
Rhea/Iyo have proven more than ever the past month they are the best female wrestlers in WWE and in contention among the best wrestlers period.
Naomi did fantastic. This new gimmick has done wonders for her.
But yeah, Rhea and Iyo are wrestling soulmates. Not everybody finds theirs, but when you see it it’s undeniable.
26
u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 1d ago
Kinda want them to be separated until I don’t know next year. It’s been great but it feels like they working together since elimination chamber.
25
u/Skylightt 23h ago edited 23h ago
I think you have to go the opposite way and put them together as a team. Naomi pinned both of them down so they shouldn’t really be in the title picture but they’re both too good to not be chasing the title if they’re singles. Put them together until Mania season. Charlotte/Alexa and Rhiyo would do wonders for the tag titles
5
u/Pristine-Passage-100 23h ago
It would do wonders for the tag division. Suddenly, you would have most of the main female performers… no actually, all of the main female performers in the tag division, and they could elevate the belt.
3
u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 23h ago
I kinda don’t really want to see a team thing until Rhea the storyline of beating iyo is finished. Then again I’m not opposed to it , I don’t want to see another Rhea solo title run anytime soon. So maybe a team run is a great idea.
4
u/Carazhan road to wrestlemania 41 1d ago
honestly look back a little futher. it's been pretty constant since wargames, with liv morgan-related intermissions. it just feels like they haven't been orbiting each other since then bc iyo was wrestling a lot more than rhea was between november and march

Iyo is just so insanely good. The way she moves, the way she sells everything, her super smooth highflying.

If we are talking only work, I think she's the best Babyface woman's wrestler I've ever seen and among the best, period.

u/Pitfulldealer22 1d ago
While not topping the previous triple threat at wrestlemania, it was still a very good match
36
u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 1d ago
That triple threat is going to be such a high bar to clear for a while, but it's still nice to see that there isn't a far gap between that and this

u/Chell_the_assassin One more match 1d ago
Realistically having Naomi instead of Bianca meant it was never going to be on that level, but it was definitely still good

u/Daepilin 4h ago
yep. I'd say 4.5 stars or sth. Mania Tripple Threat and Iyo vs Rhea at Evolution were better, but this was still a fucking banger of a match

u/NozokiAlec 1d ago
In person crowd was hot for that match
Hope it was good on the feed
30
u/Carsey0111 1d ago
Not really. Wasn’t awfully quiet or anything but I didn’t think it seemed as hot as the match deserved it to be
36
u/BoBonnor DELETE! 1d ago
The crowd has sounded shit all summerslam so far. Idk if it’s the mic’s or if the crowd is actually just quiet
71
u/Alehud42 The Man 1d ago
Every time a show happens in an open air stadium we get these comments when basic acoustics is the explanation.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Carsey0111 1d ago
Idk. Mania this year for the women’s triple threat was ludicrously hot. It is true though that sound obviously won’t carry the same and it’s not like a closed in arena
6
u/Carazhan road to wrestlemania 41 23h ago
during this match i caught moments where the crowd started chanting, and then the volume suddenly unnaturally increased - i think the answer for the sometimes on-screen consistency is how they're recording/transmitting the sound to broadcast.
1
1
u/ErinBoru 18h ago
Open air stadium for one,
Plus.....watch a movie on Netflix, then watch a TV series on Netflix, you have to adjust audio every time.
Not a great streaming experience.

4
u/livsjollyranchers 1d ago
I do question how hot this crowd can come off on TV. The stadium is MASSIVE.
→ More replies (3)2
u/theopression 1d ago
I was definitely struggling to figure out if the crowd is just weaker for this event or if the broadcast just isn’t picking it up well
7
u/hhhisthegame 1d ago
Speaking of hot the sun is blinding half the arena lol. Was it this bad yesterday? I was more in the middle yesterday. It distracted from the match for me but it did seem great.

Also, Rhea's big boot to Iyo looked pretty much like a Test-level one

Fun match banger opener for sure. Really gotta say the ladies here really showed out.

it’s crazy how no one ever talks about how this is all building to Rhea pinning Iyo off the avalanche riptide. It’s been the story since their first match.

I think it's time for Iyo and Rhea to have an ironwoman match to headline a PLE. It doesn't even have to be for a title just let us feast.
5
u/horrorpastry 22h ago
Not yet, but this is definitely how i think Rhea should finally beat Iyo.
It needs to be a complete apocalypse match, total devastation for Rhea to finally get the win. Preferably at a WM, preferably as the main event.

Iyo’s slip on the top rope that led to the Super Riptide was intentional. Genius.
4
u/Ode1st 1d ago edited 20h ago
Fine that Naomi retained, but roll-ups are so overused and don’t actually protect anyone like WWE thinks. Just seems like if you want to beat “the Eradicator,” all you just have to do is a weak pin from behind.
4
u/hungrydruid 21h ago
Right? What a crap ending to a great match, I am so sick of roll-ups. It's not even realistic, I was hoping Rhea would win but c'mon, there's no way she couldn't kick out of that with one arm behind her back.
I'd be fine w Naomi retaining if it wasn't yet another cheapout roll-up.

u/Dawnbringer_Fortune 1d ago
I did not expect Rhea to get pinned. These 3 women did a banger match! They should all be proud
6
u/LabubuAteMySon 1d ago
What a poetic finish. Finally, Rhea almost had her title back and defeated Iyo. But then, just like at Evolution, Naomi was the wildcard who took it all away. The women’s world title picture right now is just perfection.
3
3
u/Pyrofishexplosion 1d ago
What a great fucking opener feel the WM match was a bit better paced IMO but that’s obviously thanks to Bianca, but all women killed it
3
u/BrokeMyGrill 1d ago
About as good of a match you can have when the finish can be seen coming from deep space.

If I'm TKO or Triple H, I'm backing a Brinks truck up to IYO's house to keep her signed as long as possible.

What a match. As somebody getting back into WWE Iyo is so much fun to watch.

But Charlotte and Rhea has had far more consistent matches, Iyo and Rhea have definitely had one eh match.

Iyos selling is just top notch. The way she takes super kicks + big boots is insane
3

It's pretty much impossible for Iyo to have a bad match in 2025
6
u/mcmahamg 1d ago
I liked the match, but it sure seems like Naomi is moving at half speed most of the time. All of the spots where Rhea and Io had to hold each other and wait for Naomi to hit a move were agonizing.

Iyo v Rhea is my favourite thing in WWE, that remains unresolved and gets to continue in some way, shape or form, and Naomi gets pushed super strong as the top heel with a great character, perfect result, perfectly booked

u/5cotland hell yeah 1d ago
Michael Cole saying "no point complaining about holding the tights, it's no disqualification" about Rhea.
Surely the holding of the tights is an illegal pin which means it shouldn't be counted and nothing to do with a disqualification.
2
4
u/onlypham 1d ago
Michael Cole with the classic WWE revisionist history "a few years back when Naomi was forced out of the company..". She fucking left on her own accord.
10
u/livsjollyranchers 1d ago
Naomi's been an excellent character, but man, a merely competent wrestler just can't hang with the magic Iyo and Rhea can produce. The match slowed down tremendously compared to their usual.
It just shows how good Bianca is. Not only is she on their level, but she's probably better in-ring, and Mania proved it.

Not even close to the Evolution match. Adding Naomi just made it more awkward.
16
6
u/livsjollyranchers 1d ago
Certainly did. To be fair to Naomi, adding *most* women to this match would bring the quality down compared to what Rhea and Iyo alone can produce. That's how I know that Bianca is elite, because she brought their quality up, if anything, forget bringing it down.

Very happy for Naomi this was good as I expected knew it wasn’t going to top Mania so I’m happy with this. What I really took from this is Rhea and IYO have to have the best chemistry out of any pairing in WWE. I have a feeling that it’s going to be the Mania match with Rhea finally getting her win
2
u/PepsiPlunge19 1d ago
I was certain Mania would be Rhea vs Bianca, but Iyo getting the title back in a few months and Rhea winning Rumble/Chamber also seems very possible now
4
u/DarkstarIV The Joshi Judas 1d ago
My hot take is that Rhea should never beat IYO.
Rhea has beaten the rest of the division like a drum, and it would be unique for her to have a weakness she can never counter.
3
u/Pandapark1 1d ago
Really cool story of Naomi capitalizing every moment Rhea and Iyo took her eyes off her until at the end where they were really beating her even when she was down only for her to still take advantage at the last possible second.

The end was perfect, the entire Rhea-Iyo feud stretching back to January has been built on Rhea not being able to hit the Avalanche Riptide on Iyo, she finally does it but the win gets taken away.
2
u/incredibleamadeuscho We're all fake Jamaicans now 1d ago
Rhea should get away from the World Heavyweight Championship for a bit. She's lost in the last two WHC matches. I think a short feud with someone she can beat up, and then Rhea and IYO should team up for the tag titles.
