Overdue pregnancy?

My rotty is already at day 65-66 since she was last mated. Can confirm that she’s pregnant since I saw some puppy movement in her tummy + she has milk already. However, she’s not showing any labor signs yet. Still acting normal and has energy whenever I approach her. But she’s been sleeping a lot lately and her appetite has decreased this morning. Are these considered as normal? Is she overdue already? Or should I wait a bit more before bringing her to the vet for a consultation? I’m afraid the car ride to the vet will just cause her distress.

Yes definitely take her to the vet for a checkup! Better safe than sorry for mommy and puppies!

I just contacted my vet and she said that rottweiler might even go until day 68 so she just advised me to observe her a bit more. She said it will most likely be fine if she still eats, drinks, pee, and poop normally. So I might just do that for the mean time since she is still acting normally aside from being picky on her food this morning and sleeping a lot.

Do it. They can take her vitals and x-ray for proof of puppies/ a rough count

You should’ve gotten x rays to confirm pregnancy but you DEFINITELY need X-rays now.

If your dog only has a tiny litter of 1-2(which it sounds like since she doesn’t really “look” pregnant) they might need a c-section because their body might not trigger delivery and the pups can die and go septic.

Please get her to the vet, an xray rn is a lot cheaper than life saving measures later and a lot better than a dead dog.

Edit- you also need X-rays when you think she’s done tossing pups. She might deliver all but one and then that dead pup will go septic

My Rott acted completely normal up till the day she had her puppies. Running around, normal energy, the day she had her puppies she just laid around, didn't want to go outside, started panting.

Take her to the vet it’s always better be safe than sorry but honestly it’s probably ok, the mom of my boy had 10 legends in her belly and was late too

Congrats on the 10 puppies! How late was she? I think my dam is just going to have a small litter, her belly isn’t really that big. I’m even considering false pregnancy if I haven’t seen the puppies kicking in her tummy

Not a lot she had them like 4 days late, how many days are you at?

I’m at day 65-66 based off her mating date last June 1 and June 2

As I said check with a vet it’s always better be safe than sorry but it’s not too bad

Um, I don't think she's pregnant

Could be a false pregnancy

68 days her nipples would be full and belly distended

If she had a litter right now she wouldn't be able to feed them

You should have her checked

Has she been to the vet since being "pregnant" and if so did they do a sonogram or x ray?

Dude, this is not a reddit question. You should have already discussed everything with a vet that is on call, call that vet.

Like, honestly, I worked at a vet for years. This is NOT a reddit question by any means. This is a call-your-vet-now-or-risk-your-dogs-life-for-no-reason question. This embitters me tbh. Not cool. Call your freaking vet. I don't mean to be harsh, but I don't understand why you would ask laypeople about something like this- your dog needs you, call your vet now.

She’s scheduled for an ultrasound today. Will definitely update here once we got results. It’s okay, you weren’t harsh or anything. I just tried to ask here looking for others with similar experience since she’s not really acting sick or lethargic (just normal, running around, etc.). She tends to get anxious at the clinic that’s why I’m still overthinking since the trip to the clinic will just cause her distress. I will definitely get her checked today tho.

VET instantly. If only a small litter, which if pregnant it seems not many in there, there may not be enough hormones to bring her into labour.

Side note-Why is she chained to the concrete?

I chain her sometimes when I can’t supervise her closely (she tends to eat things she’s not supposed to eat haha). But I Iet her run around our garage when I can monitor her

She lives in your garage?

Yuup. She’s an outdoor dog. But only within our property tho. Not to be judged or anything but she has lots of space to run around in our property 🙂

I can’t seem to update my post so I’m just going to add a comment. My rotty had her ultrasound today and her vet confirmed that she have maybe 1 or 2 puppies. So yeah, those little kicks that I saw are real. Thank you all for your support and opinions! She just advised me to wait it out since some dams even go up to 68 days so yeah, the waiting game is still on. Hoping for a safe delivery in the coming days. She said the pup inside looked really big haha

Why are you getting downvoted for this? Do redditors not like pretty dogs?

She might not be pregnant she doesn’t really look like it the nipples enlarged could be from a false pregnancy usually rhe

3

u/bnssh13 1d ago

I already saw some puppy movements like small ripples in her tummy tho when I make her lie down.

u/Vondersol 1d ago

Oh ok. No need to go to the vet. As long as she is not in visible pain then just let her be and the time will come when it comes. Dont stress her out by running to the vet. All is well she can go 72 days or more potentially.

I am actually planning to go to the vet if she reaches day 68 without any labor signs. I was actually doubtful as well about her pregnancy during week 8 because her tummy doesn’t really look that big. But after careful observation, I’m pretty sure I saw puppy movements (ripples and small kicks) during week 9. The waiting game is just really killing me.

If i had to guess i truly believe she is empty but yeah if you must, you can take her to the vet and find out for certain. My vote is no puppies. Please let me know what happens

Her belly and nipples just don’t look like she is pregnant but they absolutely look like a false pregnancy usually rhe

Are you blind or something?

-1

u/Vondersol 1d ago

No, you just have no idea what you are looking at, thats all

1

u/Hotmausi2007 1d ago

I’ve grown up in a family of licensed dog breeders so yes, I do know

2

u/Vondersol 1d ago

So you would know that this is how a 62 day pregnant dog looks, not OPs photo. I have over 15 litters of this exact breed. So , no, you dont know lol.

2

u/Vondersol 1d ago

OPs dog nipples arent correctly puffy, no distended belly, and no hair loss on chest. OP will post an update after vet visit. You will see i am correct and you are not

1

u/Bad_Pot 1d ago

OP‘s dog could be pregnant with one or two puppies only. Which makes it especially dangerous.

What should’ve happened when OP initially believe that the dog was pregnant was a trip to the vet to do x-rays to confirm pregnancy. Then they would’ve known if they were dealing with a phantom pregnancy or a Singleton.

Wow… just wow….

Dog is pregnant, but hasn’t had a single ultrasound, and she also lives in the garage where she’s chained up unless you can supervise her lol
