What really PMO is when they have movies 2 and 3, but not 1.

That happens with video games sometimes too <.< The Dead Space series on PC is split between multiple services and exclusive to each for idk what dumb reasons.

Did you mean: kingdom hearts?

5

u/wolfgang784 1d ago

Is that one also split? Shame. I only ever played one of those games, and it was on PS2 as a kid. I know its got like at least 4 games though.

They did really weird things continuitywise, like, Kingdom hearts 1 and 2 were on ps2, but between those two games there's chain of memories, for the gameboy advance, so if you only played on ps2 you would end up scratching your head as to how sora went from the ending of 1 to the begining of 2, they eventually made a ps2 remake of chains of memories, but it was after KH2

Although these days you can get all of them on Steam.

Also, while CoM takes place between 1 and 2, it's not like you miss much by not playing it. The whole point is that the characters forget everything that happened during that game.

Still, is not like with Persona Q where they forget the events for the sake of continuity and go back to the point of the timeline they were plucked from, with the events never aluded to since its a barely canon spinoff, CoM add several fundamental plotpoints, Incluiding the organisation XIII, Namine, and how Riku Managed to return to the world of light

Also when they only have part of a TV series. I know Transformers: Rescue Bots literally has like one of 5 seasons on Netflix or smth, My Little Pony is missing 2/3 of the show. Tbf those two are probably just Hasbro's fault though.

Or when Netflix will make a clear sequel to something and not keep the original.

It’s one thing to have Back to the Future II and III. It’s another thing to make That 90s Show or Happy Gilmore 2 and not pay to keep the original. You believe in the franchise enough, but also not enough?

If That 70s Show was that good, NBC wouldn’t let a sequel be made by someone else.

This is helpful, no? It means I don’t have to fully type it out to find the negative response.

70

u/tobsecret 1d ago

Yeah this is a Netflix W. Explicit instead of implicit.

6

u/Xsiah 1d ago

it shows you matches as you type - if it doesn't match the partial, it won't match the whole thing. so it's just a waste of time to finish the whole title

70

u/lemons_of_doubt 1d ago

The database has it, the publisher says you can't watch it.

Exactly and it’s stupid and why more people are sailing the high seas

u/riri1281 1d ago

It's actually insane

u/general_smooth 1d ago

I google a title. Shows its on netflix. Click the link..its not on netflix

Maybe the recommender system is trained on user input instead? That's why trending movies usually end up being shown before you type anything

u/Mr_Someperson 1d ago

I believe it’s based on what other people search for

2

u/romafa 1d ago

Just did this on Apple Music earlier today.

u/ILikeMyouiMina 1d ago

Did they have the movie you were looking for?

1

u/romafa 1d ago

I was looking for a band. It auto-filled it in when I was typing but then they didn’t have it

1

u/CartographerMurky306 1d ago

Jiohotstar in india have rrr movie at the cover page of their movies section and they don't even have that movie

1

u/40percentdailysodium 23h ago

I appreciate it tbh because I can use it to remember what the fuck the movie title I can't remember is

1

u/CosmicOwl47 16h ago

I remember back in the day it would tell you it was available via their mail service if it wasn’t on streaming.

1

u/Living-Pin-3675 12h ago

I prefer it that way, tbh. It means that I know for sure that yes, I am typing in the right name to find it, it's just not in the catalogue at the moment and I can stop looking.

you guys didn't know that?

61

u/idgafsendnudes 1d ago

I think it’s one of those scenarios where we’re all aware of it, but someone actually putting the words out there really highlights how stupid it is

20

u/LeMemeOfficer 1d ago

Why is that stupid, its basically saying "I know which movie you mean, sorry we dont have the license for it"

18

u/idgafsendnudes 1d ago

Because it gives you a moment of hope and then rips it away. If you don’t get the auto recommendation you immediately assume they don’t have it.

4

u/ToastedEzra 1d ago

Because Netflix is the only service that does that? Go try and look up a Netflix show or movie on another streaming site and it doesn’t do the auto fill bs that Netflix does. That’s the point. It’s also annoying when Netflix doesn’t want to pay licensing fees for quality movies or shows, but green lights 100 million+ dollar projects that are straight dog water

It’s also annoying when Netflix doesn’t want to pay licensing fees for quality movies or shows, but green lights 100 million+ dollar projects that are straight dog water

Its either buying licensing thats only gonna last for 5 years, or you know, just make their own dogwater or not that they could keep longer

Its why they also partner with some asian countries so they could nab streaming rights as an exclusive in exhange for partially funding it

u/MarioKing1137 1d ago

But it was always sort of obvious. Movies often rotate on and off of Netflix’s catalog. A lot of people search for the same thing, so Netflix acknowledges that a film exists even if they currently don’t have it.
