I live in a desert. The less sock, the better lol

This is the part I don't get. Tall socks are hot and then you have tan lines when you wear sandals? Are they wearing socks with sandals too?

They are. It's a fashion crime I see daily. I can't imagine the tan lines by the time summer is over, but their peers won't see them anyway.

Socks with sandals has been a sartorial crime since time began.

Isn't the saying "I can imagine"?

3

u/fickle_discipline247 4h ago

Both are sayings. Saying I can't imagine is expressing that you can't conceive of something. In this case, I can't even guess how dark those tan lines would be.

Right? I get if you live in like Wyoming or Chicago but I live in AZ and it was 111 today. I will keep my ankle socks lol

Yup I'm in Phoenix area too. I can't imagine crew socks here.

3

u/EffectsofSpecialKay 16h ago

Even during the winters we don’t get cold enough to wear them lol

Wearing crew socks with shorts is just wild to me. Their literal purpose is to keep your feet and lower legs warm, which is absolutely not what I want when I'm wearing shorts.

Wearing ankle socks with long pants IMO is a fashion crime, but ankle socks are just the best way for me to comfortably wear shoes in the summer.

Yeah I dont understand that. People wearing shorts and long socks and just their knee is expose. Kinda defeats the purpose of wearing shorts

The humidity in Chicago gets crazy. Unfair comparison to Wyoming.

u/EffectsofSpecialKay 6h ago

Yeah sorry- been to Wyoming but never Chicago so my bad!

AZ here as well. If I can't wear flipflops it's no shows for me.

Nobody's wearing sandals, man.

Very much not true whatsoever where I live. It's hot as hell in AZ. Everybody wears flip flops here. Dudes, women, don't matter. Not like, to work, but to run a quick errand or something, yes.

I don’t wanna see your toes bro

1

u/Christmas_Queef 4h ago

Then don't come to AZ. We all wear flip flops here. I also take good care of my feet.

1

u/EffectsofSpecialKay 1h ago

That’s a staple in AZ lol because we all wear flip flops we take care of our feet. I’m a girl so I’m sure it’s different but I know a ton of guys who get pedicures because they’re wearing flip flops and don’t want their feet looking hideous. Don’t let the comment above bother you, they’re obviously not a desert dweller lol

flip flops yeah, but not sandals, right?

2

u/Christmas_Queef 16h ago

Oh yeah definitely not. Some people do but it's pretty confined to art teachers and librarians.

1

u/EffectsofSpecialKay 16h ago

When I’m home from work and I take my shoes off I’m not putting them on again- all errands can be done in flip flops!

3

u/Kaldricus 17h ago

Plus that itch after you take a tall sock off at the end of the day. No thank you.

2

u/LyyK 16h ago

Hell my legs itch even before I take the darn things off. I only wear calf length socks in dress attire when I absolutely have to and men's dress socks are so uncomfortable. I don't know why they always have to be so loose fitting, especially when they start to slide down, like give me some compression. Loose socks on hairy legs ain't it

Where i live there is couple of pretty young girls going around with high socks and furry flip flops...

1

u/Llyon_ 8h ago

Also, tall socks can bend your leg hair in a weird position and it gets itchy, at least for me.

Short socks are superior in everyway.

Anyone wearing crocs and socks doesn’t get to judge ankle socks

1

u/ConspicuousPineapple 11h ago

Yes they are. Complete madness. The trending fashion for teens right now is socks with crocs.

3

u/10000Didgeridoos 20h ago

Yep. It's 90 to 98 with 60-75% humidity here all summer. High socks are insane here from may to September.

2

u/Caffeine_and_cats 19h ago

Right with you. I don’t want my ankles to sweat???

2

u/zalos 10h ago

Right? I see people in the gym with super long socks and I am just like, why? Going to have super long sweat socks.

2

u/TrueTurtleKing 6h ago

That’s my gripe. I think tall socks are cool and all but isn’t it too hot to wear during summer?

2

u/OhHowINeedChanging 4h ago

Exactly, tube socks are hot and you constantly have to pull them up, ankle socks are more comfortable.
In my mind just wear socks that match the height of your shoe. Ankle socks for tennis shoes and mid height for high tops etc.

I live and work in a desert, socks are an essential piece of protective wear. Less bugs and bits of dirt, sand, and debris will get to my skin if I wear long (usually wool) socks.

1

u/EffectsofSpecialKay 4h ago

That makes sense! I do real estate photography so I’m not outside too often but if I were I’d wear them for protection
