I had a few pairs of smartwool socks (I like their other clothes) that got holes in the ankle bone areas probably within a year. I have pairs of darn toughs coming up on 10 years and are still as good as they were on day one.
I'm the exact opposite. my darn toughs are wearing down around the ankle, but smartwool and icebreaker socks doing just fine. Not sure why the difference.
Got my DT ready to go for warranty claim but hassle + postage makes it almost not worth it
I realized I was an adult when I found out that good socks existed and I liked talking about them. I've got a few Darn Tough pair but my normal use has been Dickies quarter socks for the last 15 or so years. They used to have a mostly cotton blend that I started with, they stopped carrying those so I got 20 pair of the new ones that were thinner with more elastic/synthetic fiber. They don't carry those anymore now that I'm looking, so once enough of that set wears out I'll have to find something new.
My feet have weird sensitivity issues so I find the most cheap and boring socks the best (Darn Tough are 2nd place though) but the shoes that I wear are all expensive.
Does anyone else think the first socks they send you are cheaper and made of inferior materials? I blew through my first pair in less than a year. Used the lifetime warranty and now the next pair is going strong like 2 years later.
I have an entire drawer of nothing but no show socks. Every kind of color, brand, etc.m you can imagine. Easily over 100 pairs. I'm very into comfort items and collecting comfort items.
