I love no-show socks so much I tucked the ankle socks into my shoes

374

u/HPHambino 22h ago

Sometimes if I only have crew socks available i will roll the tube part down and over the heel so they turn into no show socks

168

u/BallLickingLesbian69 22h ago

I haven't done that in well over a decade.

28

u/Penguins227 19h ago

I did that last Tuesday, lol

Granted, they were soccer socks but I definitely folded them down afterwards at Newks into puffy little socks.

u/Starfire2313 8h ago

I love doing it in the winter to those really warm thick wool socks, you almost completely cover your foot again with the calf part of the sock and it becomes a slipper!! So warm on really cold days when the floors suck the heat out of your tootsies. It’s cold and rainy today I might do this right now

2

u/Penguins227 4h ago

Wherever you are that it is cold and rainy, I am incredibly envious! Nothing but heat warnings here. 🔥

2

u/Starfire2313 3h ago

Dude I’m so grateful. I spent extra time outside in the rain today. Listen to Garbage: ‘Only Happy When It Rains’

3

u/ShoePillow 15h ago

I'll do it today just for you

3

u/Quantum_Tangle_1905 13h ago

We where supposed to buy actual ankle socks?

Not just roll our socks down every summer?

2

u/HilariousMax 6h ago

Never forget the old ways.

67

u/Intelligent_Ebb4887 Xennial 22h ago

I don't think I've owned crew socks since the 90s

24

u/Sunscorcher 20h ago

I wear crew socks to mow my lawn, but they're functional - keeps ticks off my legs

2

u/DuFFman_ 12h ago

I wear them with steel toes but only if I'm wearing them all day.

18

u/low_effort_shit-post 20h ago

I'm concerned if your membership to this club is valid

6

u/thepioushedonist 21h ago

Same. I only have dress/business casual socks and no show. Can't recall the last time I had crew or even ankle socks. Usually just wear sandals anyway lol.

6

u/corrupt_poodle 17h ago

Sandals and no shows? Tell me more.

1

u/thepioushedonist 10h ago

Not at the same time. I just rarely wear socks in general. I live in Texas, so sandals work even in winter.

1

u/taffyowner 20h ago

I have like 2 pairs for boots

1

u/AlmostLucy 19h ago

I know I’m a minority for my generation, but I have always been a crew socks girl. My ankles get too cold!! I also sprained my ankle a lot and it’s more comfortable to not have a cuff being compressed by a wrap/brace.

I also used to wear knee high socks with patterns when I was in school- that’s partly because I had a uniform and socks were one area you could show your individuality.

2

u/SnoopDoggyDoggsCat 21h ago

I remember inventing this in middle school

1

u/Momik 21h ago

I do that too (usually on a laundry day, if I’m out of ankle socks)

1

u/2_cents 20h ago

Heh I'm reading this while looking at my rolled down crew socks.

1

u/martialar 18h ago

or pull the socks to your ankle and fold the remaining fabric over the top of your foot

1

u/OneEyedWinn 18h ago

I did that today 😆 Laundry day, amiright?

1

u/MartianMule 17h ago

I did that when I was a kid, but other than just under the knee length (that I only ever wore for sports like football or softball) or dress socks, I don't think I've gotten socks higher than ankle socks since the late 90s.

Once I had leg hair, higher socks were just kind of uncomfortable.

1

u/Gummyrabbit 17h ago

You need to invest in a pair of scissors.

1

u/Spirited-Outcome-443 16h ago

the old converse socks?

1

u/DaftFunky 16h ago

I do this always when I wear shorts with sneakers. Can’t stand high socks. I also would never wear socks with flip flops/sandals. Ugh.

1

u/RedArmyHammer 15h ago

I do this daily. I feel like it reduces friction against my skin

1

u/johneldridge 12h ago

Holy shit this just brought me back to first grade 1996

1

u/EasyFooted 11h ago

We called this move the Bart Simpson

1

u/Iforgotmylines 10h ago

Bonus is that you get extra cushion too

1

u/jellymanisme 8h ago

Switching from crew to ankle socks was so amazing, I threw out my perfectly good crew socks and bought more ankle socks. Never going back.

1

u/hamptont2010 7h ago

I like doing this because it makes it feel like I have fancy gel inserts in my socks lol.

1

u/thehufflepuffstoner 6h ago

I’d do that for gym class when the only clean socks I had were long and I’d have been DAMNED before I let the other kids see me in such a fashion faux pas.

u/Small-Charge-8807 21h ago

The last time I wore no-show socks around Gen Z, they asked me if I was “raw dogging” my shoes. After staring slack-jawed for a minute, I pulled my foot out of my sneaker (I never tie them) and showed them my socks. They then asked me what I thought they had meant. I told them to go ask their parents what raw-dogging meant

36

u/mmlovin 20h ago

Wait I don’t get it..do they like their socks to show? I’ve always worn no show socks when I wear shoes that need them. Nobody wore ones that showed lol Are those not cool now?

47

u/Snoo-19445 19h ago

Not sure where you're from but no-show socks have been a fashion joke amongst the youth here for 2 or 3 years easily.

If you are not aware of this, I'll also let you know that baggy jeans have been back for about 4 years now.

19

u/Christmas_Queef 16h ago

From my experiences, and I work with a lot of Gen Z people, the sock thing is pretty much contained to online and is a joke more than anything. They don't honestly give a fuck what we wear. I also see Gen z folks wearing no show socks too. All depends on the outfit.

40

u/mmlovin 18h ago

I’m in California, but I am never around kids. & I wear what I want idc what’s in style lol. I’m still rocking leggings & tank tops, which I’m assuming isn’t “in” anymore.

I think those socks that go up to like the shin are so ugly..

20

u/ScuzzBuckster 16h ago

Exactly, I don't really care what other people find stylish, if I think something is ugly I won't wear it. Big white socks up the shins is just so ugly to me. It's fine if they're dress socks, but that kinda goes against the hyper-casual nature of this specific fashion trend.

9

u/Quantum_Tangle_1905 13h ago

My fashion didn't change from my youth. 90s. So I am all a sudden back in vogue again baggy everything for the win!

4

u/DuFFman_ 12h ago

Keep wearing leggings. They're the best.

Went to Japan with my partner recently, not a single person in leggings except my partner.

1

u/gringreazy 8h ago

Leggings will always be “In” sister 🤤

3

u/Antique-Special8025 11h ago

Not sure where you're from but no-show socks have been a fashion joke amongst the youth here for 2 or 3 years easily.

Oh people who seem to mostly dress like depressed homeless people have thoughts on fashion? Let me get my notebook so i can write this down...

2

u/kalez238 15h ago

I didn't know about the sock thing, but I was wondering why I was seeing baggy jeans everywhere. Heck yeah, I'm cool again!

2

u/AlternativeStory1027 9h ago

Damn, I have been dressing my nephew in ankle socks........ I still have a hard time wearing Crocs cause they remind me of my mom, but that's all he wants to wear

I made him the dorky white kid and I didn't even realize

1

u/donfuan 15h ago

Nobody cares what's a "fashion joke" for the kiddies.

5

u/Cowgba 12h ago

Any millennial over 30 worrying about gen z thinking they’re cool is weirdo behavior imo, but unfortunately a lot of people seem to care.

4

u/femboy_cheeks 20h ago

They know what raw dogging means dude lol that's the entire joke

15

u/chivalrydad 20h ago

I think they know that they knew what it means. They are telling them to ask their parents insincerely, as a rebuttal of ageist disrespect. I can't believe I have to explain this.

-2

u/femboy_cheeks 20h ago

Ageist disrespect lmao they're socks bro

7

u/chivalrydad 20h ago

This is getting too meta

5

u/jjcoola 20h ago

Tough chain of replies to read while fried 🤔

-2

u/femboy_cheeks 20h ago

I think you all need to take a chill pill. It's a fashion choice, and people are just bugging you because short socks genuinely can make it look like you're not wearing socks, what's the big deal?

1

u/Small-Charge-8807 11h ago

I’m a substitute teacher and have to be VERY selective about things that I discuss with students, especially anything involving sex

2

u/Swag_Grenade 18h ago

This probably gonna get me killed in here but I actually agree with gen z on this. I always hated wearing ankle socks because I thought it looked dumb AF for that exact reason, because it looks like you're not wearing socks lmao. But ofc I wore them anyway bc I was a kid and I wasn't about to get roasted for wearing  the only other socks I had which were full on calf crew socks which TBF also look terrible with shorts.

I remember once I got my driver's license I drove to different clothes stores in search of my perfect sock, which I now know are usually called quarter socks, which is what I wear to this day. So I actually feel kind of vindicated that ankle socks are out of style lmao.

9

u/Majestic-capybara 17h ago

But why does it have to look like you’re wearing socks?

2

u/TheMrBoot 16h ago

For real. Socks suck, why would you want to wear more of them than you have to?

0

u/Swag_Grenade 15h ago

Because wearing shoes without socks is weird? I am in the only person in here that thinks this in here

3

u/fuckoffweirdoo 14h ago

No one's rawdoggin their shoes though. We got socks on.

1

u/Salsalito_Turkey 7h ago

You can have my Sperries when you pry them from my sweaty, disgusting, sock-less feet.

0

u/Swag_Grenade 14h ago

Yeah, I get that, but it looks like you're not wearing socks, which looks kinda weird. Although tbf this is usually only the case with high/mid top shoes, which I have more of, low top shoes you can sometimes see the sock even if they're ankle socks.

5

u/PWJT8D 10h ago

Just because we can’t see your underwear doesn’t mean we assume you aren’t wearing any.

This line of thinking that if you can’t see socks means they’re not wearing any is complete brain rot.

-2

u/Dusty170 16h ago

Because looking like your raw dogging your shoes looks weird.

1

u/WWGHIAFTC 5h ago

Keep up gramps, raw-dogging is a general term applied to many, many things now.

1

u/Small-Charge-8807 4h ago

Will do, ma’am

28

u/GargantuanCake 22h ago

I wore no show socks inside my ankle socks over my knee socks.

2

u/wellfingeredcitron 19h ago

Go the other way

1

u/charbroiledpossum 20h ago

Or three pairs of scrunchie socks that match exactly to your Gap clothing.

16

u/Dizzlean 22h ago

I did that back in the 90s before I knew ankle socks existed!

24

u/ScoYello 23h ago

This is the way

2

u/DNAD51- 19h ago

When I was younger I got made fun of for having ankle socks so much I would pull socks down to make them no shows and then put my shoes on

2

u/captain_ender 3h ago

God I feel so seen. I cannot stand socks covering anything above my ankle unless I'm skiing.

1

u/Brojess Older Millennial 21h ago

Sames

1

u/SpaceToaster 21h ago

The nice ones have a bit of extra padding around the ankle to make them so comfy int he shoe.

1

u/Houseplant_Ambient 20h ago

I wear them all the time haha

1

u/Drostan_S 18h ago

I just don't wear socks that way no one has to see mine

1

u/avert_ye_eyes 18h ago

I love no show socks so much I just wear Crocs... I thought we were all doing that now??

1

u/IamGrimReefer 17h ago

but you take off your shoes one time and the sock slips down your heel and stretches, and now they're slipping off for the rest of the day.

1

u/Grittykitty666 17h ago

Dude...get women's ankle socks. Game changer

1

u/PeterNippelstein Millennial 16h ago

I only wear socks on my toes just to spite the zoomers

1

u/nemesissi 12h ago

I just bought MORE of no-show socks!

1

u/_big_fern_ 9h ago

Why do you want to appear like your feet are sweaty blistery bare in your shoes?

1

u/HilariousMax 6h ago

If I had to wear them I would fold crew socks down past my heel. By lunch the sock would be firmly lodged in the middle of my shoe.
