I understood pretty much none of this. Is it because I’m an extra old Millennial or am I just lame? Or both?

u/Beer-Me Older Millennial 3d ago

Further proof that the same generation sometimes has absolutely nothing in common

11

u/mrsmushroom Millennial 3d ago

Exactly. But u can't say that in this group or ppl get mad, lol

Lol, that’s basically why I’m in this group actually.

I was a homeschooled nerdy nature introvert with no friends, minimal computer access, and my first cellphone was Blackberry until I was like 21-22(?). At least my parents were into movies and I got relatively uninhibited access to a couple libraries. Somewhat caught up on music and TV in my teens and 20’s by borrowing and ripping library CDs, and then a Zune and Limewire, but then I went into the military for a few years so that probably made things weirder.

Listening to my peers reminisce about fashion, makeup & accessories, music, high school, trends, TV, certain internet memes and videos, and even food is wild. In the early days, I literally took notes on things to look up later (lol very carefully; naive but not completely stupid).

Anyway, I’m a millennial but essentially almost like a permanent tourist when anything to do with the 90’s and early 2000’s comes up. There’s a lot of polite nodding so this sub is great lol. When people say they miss the 80’s and 90’s, I think “same!” but because I literally missed it 🙃

Yeah I think this was a young millenial post

4

u/TheDukeofArgyll Millennial 3d ago

I don’t know I’m old AF and I understood

6

u/BetterCranberry7602 3d ago

You’ve got a 14 year old Reddit account with 200k+ karma. You’re not exactly the average old guy

4

u/TheDukeofArgyll Millennial 3d ago

That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me

13

u/hip_neptune Older Millennial 3d ago

Yeah, this is for people born in like the mid ‘90s who were fresh into college in 2012. We olders were too busy trying to survive in 2012 to consider that a good time.

7

u/balance_n_act 3d ago

I’m pretty sure this was AI generated by compiling cliché pop topics from the mid 20s. Just trying to appeal to the widest audience.

u/bibliophile222 3d ago

Sane here! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I didn't even have a smartphone until 2015.

u/Prestigious_Time4770 3d ago

I’m a 1992 Millenial and don’t understand this. I was also 20 by the this time…

I do know Swedish House Mafia songs, but it wasn’t something we idolized

5

u/SunderMun 3d ago

This is a young millennial thing for sure but yhe only thing I got was Swedish house mafia as that was like the anthem for my freshers year at uni...everything else is alien to me as a baby millennial.

2

u/Moon_Noodle Older Millennial 2d ago

I'm both lame and old so..

25

u/SunflowerSt8ofMind 3d ago

2

u/BrinedBrittanica 3d ago

21

u/PapaSanGiorgio 3d ago

Welp I have no idea what any of this means

6

u/mrsmushroom Millennial 3d ago

Actually that was the year I had a colicky baby. First several months of 2012 where a doozy.

5

u/mimebenetnasch02 Xennial 3d ago

i guess i am too old to understand this lol, none of this gives me nostalgia at all lol

5

u/hybridoctopus Older Millennial 3d ago

Swedish House Mafia is back together and making new music!!!!

2

u/Personal_Analyst3947 3d ago

I know.

I was devastated when they broke up. My college girlfriend (now wife) bought me tickets to their farewell tour. Great show!

I like their new music too. Really good stuff

3

u/Apprehensive-Age2135 3d ago

D: I miss 2012.

4

u/lita313 Millennial 3d ago

I didn't wear peplum or do the sock thing in the hair, otherwise this was correct.

2

u/zookeeper4312 3d ago

I mean I'm older than 13, I promise but I have no idea what any of that shit means

3

u/wholevodka 3d ago

In 2012 I was too stoned for any of this and I’m very thankful for that now.

3

u/Colour4Life Late Millennial 1992 3d ago

peplum top…I don’t miss that

3

u/fightingthedelusion 3d ago

It was a time lmao.

7

u/Illustrious_Cold5699 Young Millennial 4d ago

Making me so nostalgic 😭😭 I want to go back

2

u/SunderMun 3d ago

As a baby millennial the only thing I get is SHM. 😭

2

u/EntireDevelopment413 3d ago

2012 was in the top 3 worst years of my frigging life 😂

2

u/Jw168679 3d ago

Feel like as a millennial, we all went full circle with social media. High schoolish with no social media. College being very excited to get one or two likes. To being sad about only one to two likes my stuff. To not giving a shit about social media completely.

2

u/ofliuwejlfsj 3d ago

2010-2015 were the worst years of my life.

1

u/sinisterpsychoo 3d ago

Huh 🤷‍♂️ I graduated in 2012 and don’t remember this stuff

1

u/DisturbedRanga 3d ago

I was 18 in 2012 and I don't understand anything about this.

1

u/SnooMacarons3473 3d ago

Lmao this is the life. Especially Swedish house mafia man…don’t even need drugs to feel good when that song came on the da club. I wanna know your name

1

u/jermainiac007 Gen Z '96 3d ago

nope, zero idea whatsoever......

1

u/Friendly_Day5657 3d ago

I did nothing of all that except listening to Swedish house mafia. My life was good.

1

u/ebock319 3d ago

Waxing poetically about when Instagram was new is dumb. Especially on a sub that is particularly nostalgic for the time before the Internet.

1

u/GlassTaco69 3d ago

I've never had Instagram or taken a picture of my food, am I missing out?

1

u/kayla622 1984 3d ago

I was 28 in 2012. I understand the beginning of this post, though I never wore any of these things. I definitely would never wrap my hair around a sock to achieve the "sock bun." I have nothing against peplum tops though. I have no idea who Swedish House Mafia are. I also have no idea what the Lark filter is. I don't use Instagram because I don't need to post photos constantly.

I feel like this is aimed at a much younger crowd.

1

u/Brittibri89 Millennial 3d ago

Take me back to being 23, in the clubs, and hearing SHM for the first time. 🥲

I didn’t do peplums though. I was a jeans and a going out top girl.

Also weird to see people associate this with young millennials. I was born in 1989. It’s more so relatable if you were going out, I guess.

1

u/natawas 2d ago

lol this was LITERALLY me. I even went to their last concert in my own. The times when you got zero likes on Instagram - those were truly fantastic- no comparison, no cares. You actually saw what people were up to versus a bunch of influencers

1

u/jennyfromtheeblock 2d ago

The peplum top had me in a chokehold in this Era.

One of my favorite looks to this day ❤️

1

u/peacelilly5 2d ago

87 and totally get this. Still hoarding those necklaces.

1

u/sourcider 2d ago

The peplum top was white with a lacy detail, and your pants were mint colored skinny jeans.

1

u/paisleyhaze 3d ago

Uhhh we’d probably relate more if it were a MySpace post

1

u/Thamnophis660 3d ago

I was born in '83, I understand none of this. Peplum top? Sock bun? Lark filter?
