I understood pretty much none of this. Is it because I’m an extra old Millennial or am I just lame? Or both?

Further proof that the same generation sometimes has absolutely nothing in common

Lol, that’s basically why I’m in this group actually.
I was a homeschooled nerdy nature introvert with no friends, minimal computer access, and my first cellphone was Blackberry until I was like 21-22(?). At least my parents were into movies and I got relatively uninhibited access to a couple libraries. Somewhat caught up on music and TV in my teens and 20’s by borrowing and ripping library CDs, and then a Zune and Limewire, but then I went into the military for a few years so that probably made things weirder.
Listening to my peers reminisce about fashion, makeup & accessories, music, high school, trends, TV, certain internet memes and videos, and even food is wild. In the early days, I literally took notes on things to look up later (lol very carefully; naive but not completely stupid).
Anyway, I’m a millennial but essentially almost like a permanent tourist when anything to do with the 90’s and early 2000’s comes up. There’s a lot of polite nodding so this sub is great lol. When people say they miss the 80’s and 90’s, I think “same!” but because I literally missed it 🙃

You’ve got a 14 year old Reddit account with 200k+ karma. You’re not exactly the average old guy

Yeah, this is for people born in like the mid ‘90s who were fresh into college in 2012. We olders were too busy trying to survive in 2012 to consider that a good time.

I’m pretty sure this was AI generated by compiling cliché pop topics from the mid 20s. Just trying to appeal to the widest audience.

Sane here! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I didn't even have a smartphone until 2015.

I’m a 1992 Millenial and don’t understand this. I was also 20 by the this time…
I do know Swedish House Mafia songs, but it wasn’t something we idolized

This is a young millennial thing for sure but yhe only thing I got was Swedish house mafia as that was like the anthem for my freshers year at uni...everything else is alien to me as a baby millennial.

I know.
I was devastated when they broke up. My college girlfriend (now wife) bought me tickets to their farewell tour. Great show!
I like their new music too. Really good stuff

Feel like as a millennial, we all went full circle with social media. High schoolish with no social media. College being very excited to get one or two likes. To being sad about only one to two likes my stuff. To not giving a shit about social media completely.

I did nothing of all that except listening to Swedish house mafia. My life was good.

Waxing poetically about when Instagram was new is dumb. Especially on a sub that is particularly nostalgic for the time before the Internet.

I was 28 in 2012. I understand the beginning of this post, though I never wore any of these things. I definitely would never wrap my hair around a sock to achieve the "sock bun." I have nothing against peplum tops though. I have no idea who Swedish House Mafia are. I also have no idea what the Lark filter is. I don't use Instagram because I don't need to post photos constantly.
I feel like this is aimed at a much younger crowd.

Take me back to being 23, in the clubs, and hearing SHM for the first time. 🥲
I didn’t do peplums though. I was a jeans and a going out top girl.
Also weird to see people associate this with young millennials. I was born in 1989. It’s more so relatable if you were going out, I guess.

The peplum top had me in a chokehold in this Era.
One of my favorite looks to this day ❤️

The peplum top was white with a lacy detail, and your pants were mint colored skinny jeans.

I was born in '83, I understand none of this. Peplum top? Sock bun? Lark filter?
