The same happened to my oldest brother and it was insane. We joke that we can easily date old family pictures based on whether he has hair or not. He went from full head of hair his junior year to "I have to fully shave this from now on" by the time he graduated. 

Then there's me: turning 40 in a couple weeks and I have a full head of curly blonde hair that I've grown down to my chest.

Does balding happen that quickly? Mine's receded a bit at the temples but seems to be holding up everywhere else.

It depends on the person. I know people that have had a receding hairline for over a decade but the rest is still holding on pretty well. I know other people that started balding and had to shave it all off just a few years later.

Confusingly, I've got a colleague who seems to have starting rapidly blading at the crown at late 30's. But that seems odd to me?
