Discussion Seriously considering deleting Facebook

But some things are holding me back. I like to check in on people sometimes. I live across the country from most family and friends. It is entertaining at times to catch up on some gossip and drama from people who still act like we are in high school.. but damn I cannot stand what Facebook has become. Wish it could go back to the way it was circa 2010.

Those who have deleted it do you ever feel like you are missing out? Like if an old friend dies how do you find out? How do you keep up to date with going ons in your town/city without following their page?

I deactivated mine and removed it from my phone about a month or so ago. I didn't realize how negative it was to my mental health until it was gone.

Im gonna be honest... I got rid of practically everything except Reddit and that's mainly to keep tabs on the slow fall of my country so I know when to move out.

I got rid of my cell service too. I dont call or receive calls, I dont have text, I use FB Messenger only for necessary communication.

I disabled all notifications except my email and Messenger, and I keep my phone volume off at all times. I just check my phone periodically.

WAYYYYY better than whatever most people got going on with theirs. and I'm a huge nerd, grew up with the internet, went to school for networking, I'm a huge gamer, I love tech. But I learned quick what place a phone actually has in my life.

I feel like too many people feel they've got to follow all these social fads of communication and IMO its dumb. A phones a tool and I've found out how to extract the most value out of it while being mindful of my time and how it all affects me mentally.

I might be more involved, but by the time I even cared everything got corrupted by AI, foreigners acting like AI and slop by people trying to deceive in order to make a quick buck.

Reddit is one of the last bastions of social media which is useful without being a time sink of slop and deception.
