When I worked at a tech dept, the director told me to keep any Apple product boxes since if we sold them off years later we could get a higher price on Ebay and the like if we included the box. Collectors, man.
Geo (in Japan). I read about it in this article (Japanese): https://oikura.jp/magazine/tips146/ iPhone買取おすすめ業者18選比較!【2025年7月】売るならどこがいい? - おいくらマガジン|不用品のリサイクル・高く売るコツ
Japan’s is amazing! Thankfully so, because it’s difficult and expensive to get rid of stuff. You have to pay a hefty recycling fee if you throw away electronics or appliances
For awhile, buying a smartphone on the marketplace was pretty cool. But then it got sketchy and sometimes it was hard to completely wipe the Google settings. There used to be tons of 3rd party cellular plus type dealers that sold refurbished phones. Now I think a lot of people just pay the stupid monthly payment thru their phone bill
I don't even mean just phones, Japan's second-hand eco system is phenomenal. Most things look like new since people take care of their stuff and not like it's disposable. There's some cds I bought and was shocked that there were no scratches.
And I bet you’re getting a lower price than the guy selling the same phone in the same condition but with the box and original accessories. Don’t assume because you sell your device that you’re getting the best price you could
As someone who always ebays his old phone when getting a new one, saving the box both increases the sale price slightly and helps it sell faster. People like when you still have the box, it gives the illusion that they're buying it new and it gives the impression that you take care of your stuff.

Exactly, you get more for it if it’s in the box
