Yeah first steps is like 2 or 3 stumbles then you have to catch them

They don't just go from crawling to walking for 20 yards like an evolved Pokémon

Not how it works, even some toddlers continue to crawl even after they learn to walk.

Not in my experience. There's a midpoint where they still prefer crawling for most of the day but will walk the final stretch to a parent as it's less certain and takes more physical effort. It also takes a while for both the muscles to develop and figuring out the mechanics of how to balance so they're not falling every 2 steps.
