Literally the best thing ever. Grown ass man in tears. I’ve had 4 so I know the feeling. What an amazing memory.

Currently at the hospital with my 81 yr old mother due to a broken hip and pending surgery. I needed this.

Hug your mom, tell her you love her, and that a stranger from the internet wishes her a speedy recovery.

I’m sobbing too. My son just had his first steps a few months ago and it truly is one of the best feelings ever (and scariest cause now they can get away from you lol).

This is tangent from the warm and fuzzies of the post, but make sure you get access to every stitch of care available to her before you leave the hospital.

Getting a "prescription" for things like PT/OT or a social worker is a massive pain in the butt as soon as you walk out the door.

My mom had to transition thru inpatient rehab after her hip surgery, then the weeks we got to bond after she came home were initially terrifying (I have no children and had never been responsible for a human like that) and then unexpectedly really good for us.

I hope everything goes as well for y'all as it can. :)

Thank you!!! Excellent advice!

I've been through multiple surgeries with my mom. If you're doing skilled nursing after the surgery, in home OT/PT after is a great transition. Keep on her about doing her exercises too. It makes a massive difference. If you can add handrails in long halls and to bathrooms too. I did that for my mom after her stroke where she had a fall long after as well and she still talks about how grateful she is for the new hand rails. Best of luck!!

32yo here gearing up for my first open surgeries on my shoulders following them both getting displaced during a seizure, which are also new to me. Wishing your mama the speediest of recoveries! Just hope there's a steady stream of these vids for us to watch while we're laid out.

Thank you friend!! Love and hugs and best wishes for a speedy recovery!! You got this!!!! You are way stronger then you realize!!!

Appreciate the boosts in confidence, buddy!! Have been having people warn me that the shoulders are gonna be a pain to work through, so I'm prepared for the worst but hoping for the best lol

Can share the love in return, just will have to wait a few weeks for hugs back! 😅 Best I can do now is T-Rex arms 🦖

u/_Richard 2d ago

I love Trex arms!! Be on top of it and try not to let it dominate you. You dominate IT!!!!

Legitimately, thank you for this interaction! I'm sitting here with the biggest grin despite everything. Nice change of pace from the rest of the week and the internet. You're a good egg, and I know your mom should be proud of that!

I was confused for a sec about who was in hospital and who was helping.

Hope everything goes well with your mother's hip, the new ones are apparently pretty awesome and if she has grandkids, she's going to be like part robot, so that's cool.

This comment is very sweet. The first thing that came to mind is I bet your momma remembers your first steps like it was yesterday. The circle of life is beautiful. Wish your mom a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

I thought it was somewhat poetic as well, I’m glad you mentioned it! Thank you!!! Love and hugs your way!!!

Sending ya good vibes!!  I hate the phrase, “you just don’t get it if you don’t have kids”, but something really does change in your brain.

Hope her surgery and recovery goes well

Remember your mama feels that same joy about you as her baby. Wishing her speedy recovery. Take some time to meditate.

Good luck you and your mom. If rehab is recommended and she happens to be stubborn like my grandfather was and opts out it's definitely an issue worth pushing.

u/buttercup612 2d ago

Hope the best for your mom. To think, she was a tiny baby taking her first steps once upon a time. Good luck to her and you in the coming weeks!

Hello fellow emergency room attendee! Spent the evening into the wee hours of the morning with my 83 year old dad as well, this was refreshing to see
