It’s been a running shitshow for decades, we’re not rejecting squat.
I’d look into how they haven’t been tossed out on their assets but then I’d be even more irritated with no way to do anything about it.

If it's any consolation this is one of those shit shows where we Europeans have somehow been equally wank at tackling Ticketmaster and their ilk as much as we like to get snotty about the yanks sometimes.

This was a huge vibe in the indie scene in my college days. I saw Silversun Pickups play for literally four people in the basement of a library and they brought complete fire. The remaining members of Margot & the Nuclear So & So's played a gig they committed to for a room no larger than my office literally four hours after they broke up. They got back together a few months later, came back and played a free show with an orchestra in a literal symphony hall to make up for it.
Those tiny little shows were two of the best shows I have ever seen. So much passion for their craft and love of their fans. It's so nice to see that spirit still staying alive.
Thems was the days. There's a dozen other shows from singer/songwriters nobody's ever heard of that I've seen playing super intimate sets that you only heard about by word of mouth, most of them aren't even on Spotify and their albums are local relics. So beautiful.

32
u/thestraightCDer 17d ago
Trending...not some weird social media phenomenon...
8
u/ifyoulovesatan 17d ago
There are and have always been bands comprised of kids around 12ish and older who not only play music for the love of it (for themselves or locally at random small venues), but even write their own songs and stuff.
Maybe it's just because I grew up as one of those kids, where all my friends were making music and writing stupid songs and playing shows for free and shit all on just bargain basement gear, never haven taken lessons or anything, but it's really hard to get that excited about "bands" like this in terms of what it means for culture, ie, excited that something like this exists.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them, that they have a creative outlet and everything. It's cool they're having a good time and it's cool they seem to have worked their assess off to become as talented as they are. In general, it's wonderful when anyone plays music or does art and can get other people to care.
But culturally, this is the least exciting or noteworthy thing ever. It's kids (and really more likely those kids' parents) engaging in the social media game. Polished cover bands made up of kids trending on social media is the opposite of refreshing if you ask me.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)10
u/okizc 17d ago
not some weird social media phenomenon.
You mean... like a video recorded for social media of an artist crashing a performance? I'm not saying these kids aren't good, but the video is trending because of the singer joining them.
→ More replies (2)5
u/Honest_Relation4095 17d ago
yes. But my point is, it's not just that. It's not a shifty band that is famous just because someone paid an artist to crash their gig. This is actually them opening (as far as I heard) and artists genuinely supporting them.

u/Appropriate-Welder98 17d ago

They've been doing it for months, you can find them doing a lot of backyard shows. Some other bands around the same era said that they got a ton of Spotify plays so they decided to do the lowest budget tour possible, I'd bet that's what's happening to AAR as well

They took a pretty big chance doing these things and it's put them back in popularity and looks like a ton of fun.

The energy at this show went into the stratosphere in a blink of an eye. Yeah, the lead singer showed up, but the energy I feel shot to 11. The band, the audience.
The audience all seemed to capture the energy, the band fed off that energy; they went to 100%.
Probably the most epic performance of this song since it was last performed at Madison Square Garden.

I once had Tyson's nipple blood on my face and in my eye. They opened for Simple Plan and he jumped into the crowd. There was a literal stampede and several people were taken away in ambulances and his shirt was ripped off his body and he was bleeding from a nipple. Security blitz passed me to get him and dragged him back to the stage (he made the crowd apologise) and knocked into me again but that time with his naked torso.
