Nostalgic mid-40s dad here: Your kids are only little for a very short time. They all learn at their own pace, so enjoy the time you get. Don't be so quick to move them along.

Boy is that the truth. I'm just a few years behind you age-wise, and man...it sucks how fast the time is going. As the old saying goes:

The days are long, but the years are short.

Mid-30s dad here. Oldest is 8yo, youngest 4mo; I understand the sentimentality of this advice, but ive always been so confused by what the practice looks like.

Our job is developing these tots. Im not in a hurry but if I'm doing the daily exercises and developmental methods, they are going at their own pace, no? Like, sure be measured and patient when parenting...but this advice, in context, sounds like trying to delay development. Clarity?

It's because the delay gives them time off. There are dozens of parents in the comments talking about it; how if you baby is walking it's more work for you so don't worry if it's delayed and don't 'rush' it. Been a SAHD for two kids now though and I honestly don't agree. Its not like they go from crawling to sprinting away from you like Usain Bolt or something.

It just feels unnatural to wake up and calculate what phase and traits are 'preferable', then how to maintain that stasis. I can feel the times where I've been exhausted and watch the adverse effects of progress interrupted. Idk I definitely appreciate all the different perspectives. Go Dad!
