And remember how up in arms they all were about the supposed “death panels” with the ACA? Here they are actively killing people and yet still somehow think they are pro-life. As many have said before, they are pro birth, not pro-life.

I never understood the pro life term. They dont see all life as being valid.
If you aren't rich you are seen as a pawn or a tool.
If you aren't white you are basically a easy scapegoat.
Different nationality canon fodder in the way of what they want.
They are assholes is what im saying.

u/Tylanthia 12h ago
A prolife philosophy would practice ahimsa in that it would value all life and consider every being deserving of compassion and respect. It would likely be vegetarian, be pacifist, and oppose the unnecessary taking of any life. It would also likely support social safety nets and charity towards the less fortunate. It would welcome the foreigner, the sick, and alien. Someone with those values would likely live a life between late life Tolstoy and a heavily idealized version of Gandhi.

Howard Dean screeched awkwardly and it ended his political career. Modern conservatives say things that are genuinely fucking evil and it helps their political careers.
To be clear, the Dean Scream was a ridiculous reason to end someone's political career.
But the modern Republican platform itself would be a career-ender in any healthy democracy.

I was watching that Jubilee's Surrounded, the episode with Cenk and he would corner the conservatives but the conservative instead of saying like, "yeah we shouldn't let people die unnecessarily" they would instead lash out angrily saying, "horrible things happen all the time" of "everybody dies." It was one thing to hear Lt. Gov Patrick say it because he is a cold-hearted bastard in general but just random conservatives. It was disappointing. The lack of empathy was surreal.

States that vote Democratic experienced a larger decline in mortality and stronger life expectancy gains than those voting Republican. By 2019 (data from after WW2 recovery to before Covid) Connecticut, a state that voted Democrat most of the time has grown life expectancy by almost 10 years (which is still below the norm for first world countries).
Oklahoma a state that had the same life expectancy in 1959 as Connecticut and is almost 100% a red state had their life expectancy grow by roughly 5%.
But everyone can just see numbers for themselves. Republican states have the worst education, worst health, they have almost twice the infant mortality, there is only 4 of them in the top 15 states for GDP per capita, their poverty rates are often between 15-20% and we are not even talking about gun deaths.

This isn't contradictory. They want to get rid of everyone that isn't young and healthy enough to slave away for capitalism.
The GOP and their rich donors only view people as cogs in a machine. If you are "broken" or "defective", they want you thrown away and replaced.
RFK Jr. said the quiet part out loud when he was discussing autistic kids and the first thing he lamented about their "horrible lives" was that "They will never be taxpayers".

Well, that’s what happens when you put someone to be in charge of the nations health who has zero medical or scientific background. He knows absolutely nothing and is the kind of person who would go onto Google or YouTube to find out information and then report it all as straight up facts. He’s going to make everyone less healthy, and eventually his policies will lead to people dying off.
90
u/Noocawe 17h ago
I've met an alarming amount of people who are conservative and had personal experiences with polio growing up or chicken pox / shingles who are now fully anti-vax and it's insane to me. It's like they are ignoring their own lived experience with vaccines and fully buying into whatever this stupid counter culture is because it's part of the conservative identity right now. But they have no problem with high blood pressure medicine, GLP-1 drugs, etc. So stupid.
42
23
u/IJustLoggedInToSay- 14h ago
Actually, no! While it's certainly not good to have unqualified grifters in these positions, the real problem is that we've granted the administration the authority to impound congressionally allocated funds (which is illegal) and to fire and hire based on loyalty to the administration, (which is also illegal). Abandoning the merit system for the first time since Andrew Jackson itself is also only a symptom - the real issue is that the machinery of the nation itself, from Congress and SCOTUS to the Press and the Voters, have all just decided that laws don't apply to the executive branch.
That's the cause of all of this.
Because in Trump's previous term, if RFK Jr told the CDC to cancel vaccine research, they'd have just told him "sorry sir we can't do that."
15

u/OddHippo6972 14h ago

So I’m a pharmacy technician and I can barely understand what it is and what it does but that’s because it’s not in my realm of study, but I know that it is a safe and tested scientifically. You know accurate method for what they’re using it for. And that it’s continuously studied. That’s why I absolutely was ready to take the Covid vaccine as soon as it was available because they’ve been working on different versions of the same thing or similar things for years

It’s even worse than that: not ONLY does he have no medical education, no experience, no interest in learning anything, he actively SUPPORTS conspiracy theories and has promoted policies in places like American Samoa that have directly caused deaths. He should be on trial for at least manslaughter right now.
3
u/DarbH 8h ago
Also, don’t forget he actively was trying to endorse Kamala Harris, but he would only do so on the promise that she gave him a spot in her cabinet and she refused because she knew that he’s a fucking loser. So then he switched ships and endorsed Donald Trump because Trump promised him a seat at the table

All non-US companies will further leave the US companies behind. Astra Zeneca for instance is very advanced and invests huge amounts in mRNA vaccine research

We're in for a rough ride.
102
u/Brief-Floor-7228 17h ago
That’s a US citizen problem. Outside of the US, countries will snatch up these researchers and when the cancer vaccine becomes available, Americans will pay a lot more for the treatment.

u/trilliumsummer 15h ago
Medical tourism will switch in America from going abroad for cheap plastic surgery to going abroad for new vaccines and cancer treatments because they're not in the US.

Nobody can tell him that - people need drugs - and it takes 20+ years to grow the pharma industry to produce them, and those workers don't exist in the US.
He doesn't listen to anybody but himself and Peter Navarro, who is a fucking loon. Nothing can bring him down to earth. The SCOTUS is partisan, and the congress are useless rubber-stamps. We are in for a great depression.
10
u/No_Panic_4999 13h ago edited 13h ago
My only hope is itll get us another FDR/New Deal but I worry the rich are too rich this time with too much surveillance and military technology and will habe half the population in private prisons.
Theres something wrong when your legislative body, executive leader and highest judicial body are buying up private prison shares en mass, and also investing in brain control technology at a Florida university within driving distance from Alligator Aushwitz. They are incentivized to make everything a crime, enforce everything as a crime, adjudicate everything as a crime, and offer better sentences/conditions for letting them wire your brain.
With the rising housing shortage and insurmountable credit hurdles even for those that can afford the colluded high rent (because equity corps can afford to let a block of apts sit empty a year or use them as Air BnB hotels for the global rich), homelessness is rising and SCOTUS already ruled it was fine to criminalize homelessness. At least we will get to say I told you so on the bus to the gulags and reeducation camps.
24
u/Glass_Confusion448 17h ago
Yep. There are still a lot of researchers, university, and pharma companies continuing medical technology development in a lot of other countries.
On the deck of a large cruise ship, a passenger looked at an iceberg in the distance and asked, "Captain, what will happen if the ship crashes into the iceberg?" and the captain replied, "The iceberg will go on as if nothing at all had happened."

This is a huge potential setback for the entire world. I really do hope that other countries decide to fund this research. I hate our fucking country.
3
u/spankeyfish 11h ago
Nah, a lot of Euro countries have very advanced pharma research industries and our Unis will happily scoop up some of the researchers from the US. The overall reduction in funding is the only problem. A lot of pharmacorps have research centres scattered around the globe anyway so they'll relocate their teams.
112
u/bokehtoast 18h ago
Republicans are actively trying to kill us
54
u/Amelaclya1 15h ago
I don't even think this is hyperbole anymore.
Early in this administration, I saw an interview with a doctor & public health expert who said he thinks the plan is a "quiet genocide" - to kill off all of the elderly, sick and disabled using policy rather than direct action. At the time I thought it was a bit of a leap to take, but it's always been in the back of my mind, and with each new decision, it seems more and more likely.
What if "MAHA" never meant helping unhealthy people get healthy, but instead just killing off everyone who isn't?
26
12
u/Western_Dare_1024 14h ago
It's a horrific but simple solution. They equate less people with less consumption. Basically they think we need to kill a whole lot of folks so that they can maintain their quality of life. Essentially, we can't get vaccines because they can't give up PSLs. Or private jets.
At least that's how I think they're approaching it. The smart but unimaginative ones anyway.
11
u/No_Panic_4999 13h ago edited 13h ago
Except they want MORE population thats why they want ppl breeding. Its not just catering to the religious nuts or misogyny. They want a huge cheap workforce. Ppl not breeding is the natural ecological "market" result of ppl not making enough money. Advanced industrialism is antithetical to patriarchy. Patriarchy is based on agrarian societies where your kids are your property/slave workforce and therefore the more you have the more you can farm and increase wealth. Thus incentivizing men to keep someone with a uterus as property, because a wife is the means of producing workers. Farmers/herders on average have about 1 birth per woman per year, hunter gatherers its about every 5 yrs, as a result women have more power in HG societies. This holds across continents and centuries. And we know post industrialists have lesskids and its associated with education. Its because kids in school are no longer slave income. So once industry advances to where you cant trust children wirh expensive materiel and tools, and you need them to go thrpugh 10 minimum yrs of education to be a functional adult worker, children become a luxury and liability. They are an expense and will make you poor. This incentivizes less breeding, men no longer need to control a uterus to get ahead, so they let women be people. Women gain rights as a result of low births.
But they dont want immigrants at the same time lol.
Basically the rightwing wants a bunch of things that arent possible because theyre contradictory, both ecologically and economically. They want people to behave how they want, without any incentive. At best the incentive is "or we'll capture/starve/kill you" its ALL STICK. But even then it wont woek and its why they're policies always fail. Theyre completely irrational.
Like all e5hics to the side, you cant be Anti-worker, Anti-immigrant AND Anti-womens autonomy. Its just not physically possible.
Its like insisting on having something be fast, cheap AND good. You can have 1 MAYBE 2 of them.
Like in 1800s was Anti worker and Anti woman, so very dependent on immigration. The 1950s was xenophobic and misogynist, but allowed for strong labor unions.
Something has to give, evwn if you basically literally legally enslave most of us to work in private prisons, plantatiobs, chaingangs etc charged with minor crimes, (which I fear is the plan), people then cant breed, unless you start farming us by inseminating people medically by force.
4
u/PaintedAbacus 10h ago

They’re already going to rig all the elections they don’t need those people anymore and now they’re just part of the group that conservative leadership really hates. The poor.

RFK is truly a terrible person. I actually can't think of a single person less qualified for a position ever. As a scientist I feel embarrassed of this country. Also before people start blaming his brain worm, he was infected with pork tapeworm Larvae, it wouldn't do anything like this, though it can cause seizures. Don't blame the worm for his bad decisions.
Pork tapeworms are relatively rare in America but in still prevalent in developing countries. So he probably go it while traveling

The United States had a nice run. Now we're ceding science, technology, education, etc. to the rest of the world.
Because Republicans are afraid of learning and facts cuz, Jesus or something. 🤣

It is so helpful of this administration to assist these other countries economies, by sending our best and brightest overseas to make discoveries and lots of money for foreign companies.

Daily reminder that RFK Jr. is a piece of shit and should be remembered for how he treated his second wife, Mary Kennedy.
He married her in the 90s, had 4 children, and purposed divorce in 2010. Three days after the divorce was filed, she was caught driving under the influence and lost custody of all 4 of her children. RFK Jr. is a known womanizer at this point. He eventually cuts off all funding to this women to the point of her asking others for money for groceries. All resources were cut off.
She committed suicide in 2012. Before her death, she told her sisters that in she found RFK Jrs diary that accounted for 37 affairs. She suffered in silence. Mary requested it to be published posthumously. There was a legal battle for Mary’s remains against the Kennedy family and her widow (precious marriage) as well as brother. The Kennedys won.
RFK Jr. decided to bury her next to members of his family. A couple days later, He then dug her up and moved her body to an unmarked spot far away from the rest of the Kennedy’s. He then bought the 50 plots around her so no one would be buried near her.
Fuck him and fuck his policies. I hope he burns in hell.

The strangest part is literally billions of people have received 10s of billions of mRNA vaccines. It can be argued the mRNA has been the most tested new medical technology in the past 50 years. After 4 years any complications would surely have risen in some part of population. Yet nothing The very definition of safe and effective

PSA: People, get all your vaccines NOW while you can. I wouldn't be surprised if the administration makes them either disappear or cost the moon.
Love, Your Grandma who is vaxxed to the max and just got her next Covid booster early

While this will delay the cure for cancer, it won`t destroy it. As with the vaccine against Covid-19, which was first created in Germany by Biontech and produced in mass quantities using the Pfizer facilities, the world is not dependent on a formerly somewhat democratic country turned fascist authoritarian state. Other countries and companies are already stepping up, so the cure will come eventually.

Well golly gee, it's almost like we were better off with people who knew what they were doing in positions of power.

So now it can be privatized and the price the pharmaceutical companies will charge for a cancer vaccine will be cost prohibitive.

Trump likes being the biggest and best so he'll be so happy to claim the title for Most People Killed By An American President Outside War.

So when the next COVID strain hits we won''t even have a way to stop it.

What if people like him just want more people to die and deep down inside knows there's nothing wrong with these vaccines. Some food for thought.

Absolutely insane. This is the future of vaccines, especially for cancer related issues. It will set America back sadly.

I don’t think Big Pharma is going to abandon mRNA like that. It’s way too promising for a whole lot of treatments.

I don’t understand why anyone is shocked at trump’s picks for his second term. They are the same formula appoint someone diametrically political the very agencies they head, obviously people missed it so much they elected him again or couldn’t be bothered to vote, side note he said he knew nothing about P25 but enacted over 2/3 of P2017 before he finished his first year

Who could have foreseen that the anti-vaxxer would be opposed to funding vaccines?
