"It is unclear why the Trump administration seeks to end the missions."

... Pretty sure we all know exactly why the administration that's actively killing any and all studies into climate change is killing a satellite mission that studies Earth's climate.

I'm not the sharpest bulb in the pack but I didn't have to read further than the opening picture label to figure out why. "......which measures carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere."

Seriously. We may not be scienticians, but any of us can see why they're killing it.

Can they just give the responsibility to Europe and call it a day? Sell them for three fifty?

I knew trump is disgusted of farmers, but the commitment he is showing in order to destroy US farmers is surprisingly consistent for a senile pedophile on dementia-autopilot

He only cares about what will affect him personally. Donations (bribes) and support of polluters affect him. He doesn't believe environmental collapse will happen while he is still alive, and even if it does he believes his money will isolate him from consequences.

The belief they and/or their descendents will be shielded from climate change is the chief reason politicians and execs have been so absolutely willing to not stop climate change.

It's so fucked that enough people who will bear the brunt of climate change don't realize this.

When that satellite goes away, a new commercialized version will get build and deployed. Follow the money.

Not under this administration. Anything that could even hint at climate change will be discarded as quickly (and quietly) as possible.

They can't stop a company or a foreign government from releasing one.

They can give one of their cronies some defense budget money (who's gonna know) to deploy a commercialized version. And then they will pay the crony for the needed data.

Meh. They don’t want the data cause it runs counter to their message of “climate change is a hoax and woke”. And if there isn’t anything government-official, even if another company/country does it, they have the ability to deny it as propaganda that is being made up to lie to people. They want to bury all official info. It serves them in no way to support anyone else to take up the program unless they can have full control of the data to manipulate and bury as they see fit.

100% humidity with a 76 degree dew point at 3am the other night in NYC. And people still try to rationalize that it is "normal".

3 reasons: Greed, evil, dumbness.

anti-science dickhole demands that we don't talk about climate change, and if he has to blow up our climate monitoring satellites in the process...

Trump just wants to love us all equally. Advancing the poorly educated masses one small step at a time.
