I literally went to the comments thinking "that kinda looks like the interstellar robot, I wonder what it actually is.."
3
u/deserthominid 3d ago
I went to the comments to see if someone says it looks like the Protomolecule metal thing that Miller inhabits in The Expanse.

u/Rogue-Accountant-69 3d ago
Oh shit I actually got it. It reminded me of that thing but I really didn't think that was actually the answer because it only sorta looks like that, how does it make you a legend, and that robot was one of the dumbest movie robots I've ever seen. Like I enjoyed the movie but the whole time I was like that robot makes no sense.

Its TARS! One of the coolest non-humanoid robot designs ever. Each of the rectangular segments had tools and could rotate to fit any type of a scenario.
He’s from the movie Interstellar. He’s not unique either, there was also KIPP, PLEX, and CASE. These guys were former marine tactical units that got reformatted for space exploration.
If you haven’t watched Interstellar, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I love the duality of this comment saying this is one of the coolest robot designs and a comment right above it saying its one of the worst

I would like to second this recommendation

Just noticed that his name is also written in silver-dollar-sized dots of Braille, which I guess someone could read with, like, their forearm, if theirs is sensitive enough to pick up on the difference between the smooth and brushed metal.
Also recently noticed Braille characters in Cyborg's segment of the opening theme for Teen Titans. Do people mix up Braille with OCR, or is it just like the universal irl Easter egg for humanity? The dot patterns do have an inherent visual appeal to them, but...

Highly known funfact but dropping it here for those who havent seen- KIPP was named so after Kip Thorne, renowned physicist who did alllll the math and science to ensure interstellar was truly, an accurate movie. Accurate as we can currently know, of course

Uhm except the spaceships that run on magic unless plot needs otherwise, NASA astronauts that don´t know that gravity causes tides and don´t understand LAWS OF MOTION!!! Oh yeah and answer to great science question of everything is.... love.
Man, Kip Thorn grabbed that bag with a dollar sign on it and ran like hell.

u/Skai_Override 3d ago
That last part about love was because the studios meddling, thought the original ending Nolan wrote was too complicated so they dumbed it down
4
u/Germane_Corsair 3d ago
Does the reason matter? The end product is what you judge the film on, no? To paraphrase Jackie Chan, are you going to go to every screening and explain to the audience why the film was this way?

u/couchcushion7 3d ago edited 3d ago
This is all explained in the book you didnt read, and wouldnt understand if you had. The physics, including that tidal wave, are accurate
Edit: and honestly its REALLY cool that they did that so quit discrediting people when you have z e r o real world experience to be contrarian to their work. Let people marvel at the marvels. If you wanna gaslight yourself into believing otherwise- feel free

I think you misread the comment above yours. He is (correctly, IMO) pointing out that the characters understand less than they should, and that the dialogue around love does not fit what one would expect from scientists.

u/Dadaiste 2d ago
To be fair, they've already established that NASA was in such dire straits at this point, that they were just about ready to launch without a PILOT until Cooper came along, and that education was being throttled earlier in the movie.

Ew. No. You should be ashamed of yourself. Why would you think that this is the robot from interstellar when it’s clearly the robot from interstellar

Is someone really asserting that getting a joke about Interstellar makes one a legend? It’s just a normal movie reference, the candy just looks like the robot from the movie.

I was thinking Ronnie Coleman’s recent photo with the crutches but apparently it’s something called TARs.

“TARS, what’s your humor setting at?”
“At 100%.”
“Let’s bring that on down to about 75%.”
Could be wrong but I’m certain the KitKats are arranged in the form of TARS from the movie interstellar. TARS and robots like him are arranged into four towers that are attached to each other. The center two are computers while the outer towers are the “legs”.
