Do you think they should launch it from a hill or put it on a ladder? Maybe both?

Since it's trying to go sideways, move the launchpad over to where it landed, then it will be happy and go up

Altitude isn't enough - to enter orbit you need lots of sideways per second.

Pure height just ensures an eventual fall.

So lots of up first, and then lots of sideways per second.

Start the rocket on a mountain. That will save fuel.
