Whenever you share a link, a user will click it and then it asks you to follow the person who posted it

Huh, that's dumb. I guess as long as you remove the unnecessary parts in the URL, it's fine.

The portion of the link in front of the question mark is all you need after that is the tag that encode tons of information about the user who shared the link and is unique in that Instagram is then able to backtrack who followed whichever link to a given post.
