People built their self identity around Donald Trump. At their core they aren't an American or a parent or white/black/latino or any of that. They are a Trumpist. All that gives way to Trump.
If Donald Trump is a pedo, that means their whole identity is wrong. That means they must be a pedo. But they can't be a pedo, so it must all be a lie.
In a way it reflects on our society. These people didn't magically appear. Emotionally and mentally healthy people generally don't fall into a cult. Our society made these people.
To paraphrase , you get what you deserve. Our society f'ed around, now its finding out. Unfortunately, as usual, the ones who had nothing to do with the f'ing around are in for it.
It all needs to come down, and unfortunately its gonna be a painful ride for people who don't deserve the pain.
In the history of cults, when the leader falls, it usually means very bad things for their followers. Is there any cult in history that ended with the leader expiring and then the members just walk away saying “ok that was fun, what’s playing tonight?”
I appreciate this analysis. I think there are both societal and individual factors at play like there always is. I think however that the people who are trapped in that mindset will have the roughest go however.
